22.01.2022 Congratulations to Vincent Namatjira on winning this year’s Archibald Prize with his portrait of Adam Goodes, 'Stand strong for who you are'! ‘We share some similar stories and experiences of disconnection from culture, language and Country, and the constant pressures of being an Aboriginal man in this country. When I was younger and growing up in the foster system in Perth, Indigenous footballers were like heroes to me. Goodesy is much more than a great footballer though, he took a strong stand against racism and said, enough is enough. I stand strong with you too, brother.’ - Vincent Namatjira The portrait is on display in the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prize exhibition, opening tomorrow.

18.01.2022 In acknowledgement of the NAIDOC Week 2021 theme of Heal Country, Heal our Nation, this year’s National Indigenous Art Fair will shine the light on the art form of ghost net sculptures, developed in response to an urgent environmental crisis... Around the world’s oceans, thousands of lost, broken and abandoned fishing nets are causing devastating damage, entrapping and killing vast quantities of marine life...... Aboriginal communities around Australia, predominantly in the Gulf of Carpentaria, are responding by collecting these drifting ghost nets from the ocean and weaving them into beautiful sculptures, both large and small scale, often in acknowledgement of the sea creatures that have lost their lives... Throughout the National Indigenous Art Fair 2021, these award-winning eco-artworks will be showcased; and visitors will be invited to join with guest weavers from around the country, to experience working with recycled ocean plastics to create a ghost net sculpture of their own... 15.01.2022 We have decided to postpone this years Art Fair to 2-3 July 2021 following a review of the most up to date advice regarding ways to minimise the spread of the Coronavirus, and the New South Wales Public Health (COVID-19 Public Events) order banning events of 500 people. In this rapidly evolving and unknown environment, we know this is the only responsible decision albeit a devastating one. However, the health and safety of our community is our first concern. Well be up and operating our Blak Markets as soon as we can!

11.01.2022 Today and yesterday are the days we are supposed to be running our National Indigenous Art Fair which we had to postpone till next year because of Covid. However we are currently working on ways to increase retail opportunities through Aboriginal supply chains and are launching our Blak Markets website soon so you will be able to buy online from our stallholders and remote art centres who would have attended our Art Fair from right across Australia. But tonight we are thinking of all those wonderful stallholders and Aboriginal artists and art centres that travelled from the remotest parts of Australia, to tell their stories through the art they sold and the cultural performances and weaving circle we put on at our Art Fair. See you next year but were working on better ways of working with you all in the interim.
