24.01.2022 A great interview with Peter Frazer from SARAH Group on Sky News Australia today. Media support is essential to communicating with everyone on the roads and we appreciate this time given to National Road Safety Week. Watch here: https://www.skynews.com.au/details/_5778284510001 #nrsw

22.01.2022 Congrats to Andrew Constance MP and Paul Toole MP on their reforms to NSW road safety laws, announced today including changes to the mobile speed cameras and harsher penalties for drivers who are caught drink and drug driving at the same time. We particularly welcome that the new combined drink/drug driving offence will be known as the Four Angels Law - in honour of Antony, Angelina, & Sienna Abdallah and Veronique Sakr, who were tragically killed by a driver under the influence of drugs and alcohol #NRSW #drivesos

21.01.2022 Today's #nrsw theme is protecting those who help keep us safe. Traffic Controllers and Roadside workers risk their lives every day to help and guide us along the roads. Let’s ensure we keep our distance and keep them safe. #drivesos

17.01.2022 @AlexanderJannink, #Acusensus and myself have sadly both lost loved ones to distracted drivers in what should have been safe situations. In this joint article we look at a common danger that is more violent and fatal than #COVID https://bit.ly/332yauh #nrsw #DriveSoS

16.01.2022 Every year 1,200 Australians are killed on our roads, and more than 30,000 are injured. Today at midday, we'll pause to remember the 1200. Let's work together to aim for zero deaths on our roads #nrsw #drivesos

14.01.2022 First responders across the NT are joining forces this week - National Road Safety Week - in a desperate plea to road users to take care on our roads. Here at ...CareFlight we only know too well the terrible consequences a second of carelessness can have on motorists. The Northern Territory has the highest road toll per capita in Australia and ranks amongst the highest numbers of injury per capita across the country. But the trauma caused by crashes and accidents on our roads doesn't just affect the people directly involved. It has a ripple effect throughout our community - causing heartache and grief for family members and friends, but also affecting first responders like St John Ambulance NT, Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services and our flight nurses and doctors here at CareFlight. Last year alone we flew nearly 150 road crash victims across the Top End to receive critical medical care, with numbers spiking during peak tourist season, when we transported a road accident patient every day on average. Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Nicole Manison, is this week calling on all Territorians to work towards the goal of no deaths or serious injuries on our roads. Every death on our roads causes grief and hurt," Ms Manison said. "Our road toll is not just a statistic, it represents somebody’s family father, daughter, son, mother, brother, sister or friend." A quarter of all deaths on Territory roads involve speed and here in the Territory we still have a lot of work to do to educate people around drink driving and the importance of wearing seatbelts. These two factors would reduce our road toll significantly." See more

10.01.2022 PARLIAMENTARY FRIENDS OF ROAD SAFETY STATEMENT This week marks the commencement of two very important initiatives; National Road Safety Week and the fourth UN G...lobal Road Safety week. Today, Parliamentarians will wear yellow ribbons in honour of the lives lost on our roads, in conjunction with the Safer Australian Roads and Highways, the Australian Road Safety Foundation and the Australasian College of Road Safety. Sadly, last year we had a rise in our national road toll with 1,300 losing their lives on our roads. Thousands of people were also injured on our roads through road accidents. We must acknowledge and thank members of the police force, fire service, and importantly ambulance officers, who are often first on the scene and confronted with the harsh reality of road accidents. It is also important to acknowledge the many road safety organisations and bodies around our country, who continue to work tirelessly to improve road safety outcomes. Australia is not alone. Globally, road safety is a major issue. A World Health Organisation (WHO) report was published 2016 and sadly revealed 1.25 million deaths occurred on the globe’s roads in 2013. The Parliamentary Friends of Road Safety wants Australia to take the lead in road safety by adopting the highest possible standards in road design, vehicle design/technology and enforcement. By adopting the highest possible standards, we hope to be a shining light in the Asia Pacific region and reduce the road toll and injuries here in Australia and around the globe. That is why the Parliamentary Friends of Road Safety will strongly advocate and push for measures that set an ambitious target to have road deaths reduced to zero. Co-Chairs Parliamentary Friends of Road Safety Senator Alex Gallacher Llew O’Brien MP Senator for South Australia Member for Wide Bay Contacts: Matthew Marozzi (Senator Gallacher): 02 6277 3450 Simon Kelly (Llew O'Brien MP): 02 6277 2301
