19.01.2022 Another fantastic submission for South Australian Tree of the Year! Stangate Oak - English Oak - Circumference of 6.61m "Measured in 2015 with a height of 26 m ...and a crown of 38 m the Stangate oak is listed on the National Register of big trees as the equal largest in Australia. Mystery surrounds the planting of the tree with local legends suggesting it could have been planted as early as 1838 or in the 1840s but it was most probably planted in the 1860s. The tree is so big it is impossible to capture in a single photo but is a favoured backdrop for weddings and picnics. Stangate Garden is owned by the National Trust and is open on the 4th Sunday of every month, but the tree is easily viewed from Bassenden Lane, Aldgate, any day of the year." Good news! The closing date for nominations is being extended! There have been many people who have requested some more time to nominate their favourite trees. NOMINATIONS will now CLOSE on the February 13th! Nominating your favourite tree is easy! You can do so by visiting > www.20metretrees.org If you have any issues nominating a tree, please send this page a PM.
