24.01.2022 Our Inner Circle of donors are our partners together, we are committed to creating the space for First Nations young people to truly fulfil their potential. TAL, one of our Inner Circle of donor organisations, is celebrating the fifth anniversary of the TAL Community Foundation. Happy 5th anniversary and a big thanks to the TAL team for the ongoing support! And here’s some of our team being a bit silly with some TAL anniversary cookies ;)... 20.01.2022 "We do a smoking ceremony at the beginning of the year, so that we cleanse our mind, body and soul of negative vibes from the prior year as well as ward off bad spirits that may have attached themselves to us over the last year. We also have a smoking ceremony to welcome new and returning students to NASCA. It is important to practice these ceremonies as they are a big part of our culture, it strengthens our connection to our history and our struggles as Aboriginal people of ...this country, keeping our culture alive in the process. Talking about our culture draws strength to our culture. As our history was verbal and passed down through speech, we never had pens and paper to record our history, so it is important to keep talking about our shared history as it keeps our culture alive. We need to spend more time with our older people to learn and gather their knowledge so our history and our stories and our ceremonies continue into the future, we must pay respect to each other as Aboriginal people, because we have survived through many heartaches and struggles in this country. When we pay respect we heal and we become better, and stronger. And when we become stronger our culture becomes stronger for future generations." - Lyall Munro, NASCA Program Lead
