17.01.2022 This week we say a sad farewell, and offer our thanks and best wishes to Mr Greg Hughes. Greg joined us in early 2016 and after 4 years and 3 months of service with us, he is departing as the CEO of the Australian Institute of Building this week. We have seen a number of significant changes in the AIB offering during this period; which have lifted the profile of the institute, refreshed our branding and increased the services being delivered to our membership base and corpora...te partners from our National Office. Greg has been a champion of our cause, and I have personally appreciated his dedication to the role and the institute while working alongside me during my National Presidency. Greg advised earlier this year he would be leaving us, and the AIB National Council have been actively searching for a replacement while undertaking a number of changes to manage the effect of COVID-19 on our staff and operations. Greg has worked with passion on our behalf, and he leaves us with a stronger framework of industry relationships built around the value of being a Chartered Building Professional and having industry partners who value the ideal of Advance through Learning We wish Greg and his family, all the best for the future. David Burnell FAIB National President, Australian Institute of Building

15.01.2022 The Australian Institute of Building welcomes the initiative of the Berejiklian government in recognizing the importance of investors to the vital residential building sector. Geoff Dart, Executive Director, comments. With occupied home ownership in long term decline, not enough recognition has been given to the growing number of folk choosing to rent their homes for a number of socio-economic reasons. Rented households account for more than one-third of Australian househol...ds and expected to surpass those occupied by owners by 2050. Paralleling European trends, we are now seeing the emergence of the Rowner, the folk who enter into a longer term lease and prepared to do make-overs in order to personalise what they regard as home, and quite rightly so. Landlords generally lag in this regard with the build-to-rent model of long term leasing gaining traction. We need to encourage investment in our housing sector and recognize social needs as the driver of change. Geoff Dart Executive Director, Australian Institute of Building
