23.01.2022 A tragic and heart breaking loss R.Rubuntja was a domestic violence campaigner, community leader and one of the founding members of the Tangentyere Women's Family Safety Group (TWFSG). In the words of TWFSG "We will be inspired by our sister’s legacy, we will not let her be forgotten and then we will ask you to stand with us against family and domestic violence." https://nit.com.au/alleged-murder-victim-identified-as-wel/

21.01.2022 As the #16DaysOfActivism campaign draws to a close - we want to remind you that activism against violence towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and their children must be every day. That's why we are calling for governments to invest in the only national peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victim/survivors of family violence - the National FVPLS Forum. We make sure our women's voices are HEARD and that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have a seat at the table in important national conversations. 17.01.2022 ICYMI - a recent report led by Professor Marcia Langton confirms that fear of child removals and homeless are preventing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women from reporting family violence. The report also shows why we need culturally safe, specialist, Aboriginal controlled services - like our FVPLSs - in order to improve safety for our women and their children experiencing or at risk of family violence.

17.01.2022 On Day 12 of #16DaysOfActivism we are calling for action on the staggeringly disproportionate rates of imprisonment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. Our women comprise only 2% of the Australian population and yet make up 35% of the prison population - and almost every single one of our women in prison has experienced family violence. Governments need to fund culturally safe, specialist services like FVPLSs - not more prisons and sentences. 15.01.2022 Violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women is a national emergency. We are 34 times more likely to be hospitalised as a result of family violence and 10 times more likely to die from a violent assault than non-Indigenous women. #OchreRibbon2021 #DontSilenceTheViolence

03.01.2022 Aboriginal women experience many forms of violence. Family violence is just one form of violence. That’s why we need holistic culturally appropriate responses. Aboriginal woman and children’s lives lay at the intersection of all system failures. From Justice to health to education. The severity of the family violence we experience is a symptom of this. Self-determination is fundamental for ensuring that supports are accessible and effective for Aboriginal victims/survivors w...ho face multiple, complex barriers to reporting violence and accessing support. This ochre ribbon week share our stories to help raise awareness and put Aboriginal women's voices in the forefront of the conversation. #ochreribbonweek2021 #DontSilenceTheViolence
