25.01.2022 The wonderful team at BarberJan are doing a collection and community support drive this Sunday in Brunswick. Please come along and help if you can. More details in the post!

25.01.2022 We are so incredibly proud of our superstar, Leah, and wanted to share her story with you. We first met Leah when she was experiencing homelessness and staying at Launch Housing. Leah was in her early 20’s and had already been at Launch Housing for some months. We invited Leah to do our The Plate Up Project which she accepted, and we’re so glad she did. Leah was a standout star at Plate Up and did so incredibly well during the program. ... Leah soon joined us when we opened The Kala Space op shop, where she worked three days a week while she navigated her way out of homelessness. Working at Kala meant Leah could choose her own hours and grow her working confidence at her own pace. And what an incredibly fast pace it was! Today, in the middle of a pandemic, with absolutely no help from anyone else, Leah started HER FIRST DAY AT HER NEW JOB! This is a job Leah saw, applied for, interviewed for and was successful at getting all on her own. Leah was always an incredibly strong person but she had been through some extreme difficulties that she had to overcome. Leah’s time at Plate Up gave her the confidence to keep going, and working at Kala meant Leah proved to herself that she is capable, she is strong, she is intelligent and she is very valued. We are just so incredibly proud of you, Leah. I know I keep bombarding your messages telling you that, but you really do deserve to know just how amazing your are. Congratulations you incredible woman. We are so very proud of you

24.01.2022 We sent hygiene packages out yesterday with enough items to cover around 50 families in need. Items like deodorant, toothpaste, tooth brushes, razors, soap, shaving gel and sanitary items are all still hard to reach for many families. It’s not only the affordability of the products that makes it hard, it’s the accessibility when a person living in high rise towers is infected with covid or is caring for a family member who is. Thankfully those numbers are coming down now and... the need for these items is slowing. We are proud to say we managed to help people all across Melbourne right through the stage 4 lockdown thanks to your generosity. And we are so incredibly proud to be able to say we were there for them right to the end of stage 4 lockdown. This was no easy task and we needed a lot of help to get there. But thanks to a small team of volunteers and a large and generous following, we got there. We all should be very proud of what we have been able to achieve. Thank you so much to each and every one of you who has helped. You’re all incredible. We delivered these packs to drummond street services thanks to our super helper Simon and our legendary packer, Luke. A huge thank you to Stayfree and Johnson & Johnson, Silent Arrow and Melbourne Period Project for the sanitary items.

23.01.2022 Is anyone aware of what plan Dan Andrews has to put those experiencing homelessness into shelter before midnight tonight? There are so many people sleeping rough in the city. We’re searching for information on what the plan is but are so far turning up blanks.

23.01.2022 This is infuriating. These politicians forget about things like delivery fees that add on to your online order. Not to mention the fact that some people want to buy second hand because it’s all they can afford. 20% of welfare is a pittance. They have absolutely no idea what it’s like to live like this and are completely out of touch. The Indue card is nothing more than a way to control the poor and Lord it over them. ... It is ineffective, degrading, humiliating to the user, not to mention costly and completely bypasses the actual issues it is meant to be addressing. If people are spending too much money on alcohol and drugs the government should put effective treatment and education programs in place to address these issues. They’re passing the buck ans wiping their hands of taking responsibility for the actual problems. Punishing people is never going to solve these issues. This is a conversation I had with a person stuck on Indue: Being on indue is like living on under 3000 a year wage with high price food stamps. No sports club...dance club..fresh market where the cheeper local fresh food is... Most on line stuff is b- pay. My indue card does not allow b- pay...it's a hit and miss out here, if your card works for b- pay ( pal pay?) And a hit and miss at the only newsagents...my indue card does not work... only place to get school stationery...and toy's.. ... So if you wanted your daughter to do dance classes she couldn’t because you can’t pay on Indue? And if you’re wanted her or your son to play soccer, no go because the club doesn’t accept Indue? And fresh food markets are cash only? Yet they expect you to manage all of that out of the 20% cash component? Yes exactly...and if you / or a family member is able to help pay the dance/ footy fee....on the day and travels to other towns to complete..indue card is not accepted at sports clubs to buy that bottle of water/ pie and chips...so what's happening ..955 families on indue just don't participate in community events ...like the one and only big Event here, oyster festival!! No indue people can go ...they only take cash. They have no idea how it affects a small town with limited choice to begin with...no Woolworths/Coles/ BIGW. When on top of no choice the indue adds restrictions.. Life becomes hard and very little joy ....and yet our politicians think this is an acceptable way to bring up the next generation. https://www.abc.net.au//charity-steps-in-after-ce/13113356

21.01.2022 Yesterday we had an urgent order of 23 school bags for 8 families to make up. We put a call out and two volunteers came to the rescue! Thanks so much Kim and Tracey for coming in to help out. These kiddos are going to find school so much easier having everything they need to get through the day. 19.01.2022 I’m sure the word of the Facebook media blackout has reached most people by now. Much of the public reaction was that we shouldn’t be relying on Facebook anyway. What people fail to realise is that so many of the people and organisations we support rely on Facebook to reach out for help. And we as a charity rely on Facebook to rally volunteers at a moments notice. When the 2020 bushfires were raging we put a call out on Facebook and hundreds of volunteers immediately came for...ward to offer their time, support and donations to help people who had lost everything. When the strict Victorian COVID lockdown happened and thousands of people were trapped in towers we relied on Facebook to quickly gather support to supply thousands of nappies, tins of formula, food items and play bags for children. We could not have done that without Facebook. When people lost jobs because of Covid and families were starving and facing eviction they could not reach us nor we reach them in a timely manner without Facebook. When we find out that kids in Ceduna have no shoes we cannot rally our supporters to fundraise for shoes to send over without Facebook. Indeed, we would never have known about the issue in the first place without Facebook. But there are websites!, people say. Sure there are but unless you’re intentionally going to that website you’re not going to see the story. You can’t tag friends on a website. Websites aren’t able to be altered or added to unless you’re a web designer or have one at the ready. They’re not as fast and dynamic as a Facebook page. But we survived without Facebook. We’ll be fine without it! Wrong. Many didn’t survive. Issues like domestic violence, sexual assault, homelessness ans many others were hidden until the social media platform gave a voice to those who had none, and allowed them to form groups, gather in numbers and finally be heard. #LetHerSpeak #metoomovement #whereswilliam #PayTheRent #homelesslivesmatter #LetUsSpeak Without social media these messages don’t gain the momentum they need. Voices aren’t heard. Laws aren’t changed. People continue to suffer in silence. If you feel that the removal of social media platforms won’t negatively affect you please check your privilege. Because for all it’s faults, and I’m the first to admit there are many, social media platforms like Facebook have been the catalyst for positive social change in so many incredible ways. Thank you to everyone who helped us come back and to Daily Mail Australia for sharing our voice. Read full article here https://tinyurl.com/n2eaweug

18.01.2022 There’s still time to get down to Victoria Park to watch some amazing Renegade Footy! We’re thrilled to be the charity BBQ for this round. 18.01.2022 We recently had the absolute honour of having our CEO Donna speak on the Too Peas In A Podcast show. What an incredible show these ladies Mandy and Kate have put together. Since appearing on the podcast we have had just over $3500 in donations come in from their amazing ‘pea’ listeners. This could not have happen at a better time. We are so close to Christmas and have so many families to support. Thank you so much so very much to all of the Peas who listened, shared and don...ated. We love you all so much. You’re going to make so many vulnerable families so happy this Christmas Too Peas in a Podcast supports people and families caring for a person with a disability, and so much more. 17.01.2022 We too are tired of large companies profiting from the biological function of menstruation. Period poverty is very real and it is degrading, humiliating and damaging. Australia needs this now! https://www.theguardian.com//scotland-becomes-first-nation

16.01.2022 This is absolutely heartbreaking and just cruel https://www.sydneycriminallawyers.com.au//homeless-woman/

16.01.2022 Sometimes a small thing can make a huge difference to someone in need, especially when no one else is around to help. Instant food wins are very popular for people sleeping rough, as they can redeem them when the food vans are gone and the street feeds are closed. ... If you happen to collect instant food and drink wins and you’re not using them, we’d love to have them to pass on to people sleeping rough and other support organisations . These instant wins are redeemable until October 25th and they can mean the difference between a meal or an empty stomach for someone on the streets. If you have some that you’re not using we’d love to take them! Please post them to National Homeless Collective 50 Lygon Street Brunswick East VIC 3057 Thank you all so much! For more details about our work please go to https://www.nhcollective.org.au

14.01.2022 Melbourne we came through for our little ones during the 2020 lockdown and we need your help again. Unfortunately greater Melbourne is still in lockdown which has meant many families are suffering. We have had an urgent request from one of our larger partner organisations for infant care products. We have around 300 families to support. Sudden job loss has created unexpected financial hardship for many families and once again we are seeing the same devastating effects we wit...nessed in last years Melbourne lockdown. Last year we assisted thousands of families with infant care products thanks to your incredible support. We need your help again. Families with infants have run out of nappies, wipes and infant formula. We have been asked if we can assist and we will do everything we can to see these babies given the care they need but we need your help to do that. The easiest way is to purchase a ticket in our raffle to win a luxury holiday. Tickets are $25 each which is about the cost of a large packet of nappies or a tin of formula. This holiday prize has been donated to us to raffle to raise much needed funds for emergencies such as this. Please click the link below to purchase a ticket and help us help our babes of Melboune stay dry and fed. https://www.raffletix.com.au/?ref=9rk6w&sref=baxx52yw Unfortunately donating to charity is not one of the 5 permitted reasons to leave home so we cannot encourage people to donate physical items. Also with covid being unknown and so many contact points around Melbourne we unfortunately cannot take physical donations at this time. We must limit the amount of contact points for items we donate. Thanks again Melbourne. Please help us help as many of these babes as we can.

13.01.2022 Every $25 Ticket saves a life, every $25 ticket buys a Winter Warmer Pack, it only takes one ticket to offer someone who calls the streets home warmth and comfort on a freezing cold winter night. We need your help and support as the homeless crisis in Australia continues to grow and Covid 19 continues its path of devastation. You will make a difference and change someone's life and possibly win a wonderful holiday! Win an All-Inclusive Luxury Holiday on Orpheus Island/Great ...Barrier Reef for 2 PEOPLE in support of our Winter Warmer Appeal. 12.01.2022 If you’re in Melbourne and currently experiencing homelessness please call this number for emergency lockdown hotel assistance. Please note it will take a while to get through. A worker will call you back but it may take a while. Please share this with anyone you know who might be sleeping rough and need somewhere safe to lockdown. ... 12.01.2022 This man was so unwell from hypothermia we had to call him an ambulance. We hate having to share these photos but this is the reality of the work we do. This is the life of the people we help. Discarded, broken and forgotten. People freezing and cast aside. People calling the streets home where the pavement is their bed. This man had to choose whether to put his jumper on to try and and stay warm or use it as a pillow so his face wasn’t pressed against the cold concrete all n...ight. No one should ever have to make that choice. This man is real, this is who we help. But we can’t do this without you. We need to get our Winter Warmer packs out to people just like this man and thousands like him, but the cold hard fact is, these packs cost money. Each pack is valued at well over $120 but with donations we can make them for around $25 each. $25 is the exact cost of a ticket in our raffle and each ticket sold means one winter warmer pack gets handed out to someone sleeping rough just like this gentleman. It also means you could win this incredible luxury holiday. Your continued support assists us to buy Winter Warmer packs to be distributed to hundreds of people and to literally help keep them alive, this year because of Covid, demand is higher than ever before. 09.01.2022 Why are people sleeping rough in Melbourne still not being given adequate accommodation during lockdown? They’re being moved on. To where? They have nowhere to go! The National Homeless Collective charity is paying to put people into hotels because they’re not getting callbacks and have been forgotten. It is appalling and completely unacceptable that once again people experiencing homelessness have been forgotten during this lockdown.

07.01.2022 I don’t really remember when I first knew about homelessness, though I do know I was very young. I remember seeing a man living under a bridge when I was about four. My older sisters and I often walked past him on our way to the shops to spend our weekly pocket money. He never bothered us. Never even acknowledged us really. I was young but even then, I knew he shouldn’t be living there. I remember feeling incredibly sorry for him though. Wondering why he didn’t have a home or...Continue reading

06.01.2022 These photos were taken two hours ago. This is Melbourne this morning. This is happening now. Imagine this is your bed for the night. Now imagine this is your bed, but without the sleeping bag. We have freezing conditions and weather warnings all over the state but we still have people left behind sleeping out there in this blizzard. ... If we could house them we would. If we could get warm beds for them all we would. Sadly, we can’t do those things but what we can do is offer a sleeping bag and some warm clothing to at least keep them alive. But we can’t do that unless you help us to do that. We’re only funded by your generosity. We know there are around 400 people rough sleeping in Melbourne alone. We need to help all of them. Please consider helping us by making a donation on our website or by purchasing a ticket in our raffle below. The raffle prize has been donated to us and one ticket means one Winter warmer pack for someone sleeping in these conditions. Just click and buy. It’s that easy. One ticket means a sleeping bag or a winter warmer pack for someone who is sleeping outside tonight. Two tickets means they receive both and you get two chances to win an incredible luxury get away. Even if you don’t win you’re still helping someone survive this brutal weather. This should not be happening but in reality it is. Please click below so we can get more of these life saving bags and winter warmer packs out there.l to people who have no choice but to call the streets home. https://www.raffletix.com.au/?ref=9rk6w&sref=baxx52yw

04.01.2022 The pandemic has hit hard in so many ways and we haven’t been immune from its wrath. We ran out of almost everything for our Period Packs just as the need for donations was increasing. We reached out to the incredible people at Johnson & Johnson who own Carefree andStayfree pads and tampons and they were only too happy to help! This wonderful company donated over 10,000 products to help get us though tough times here in Melboune to make sure everyone’s support has access to menstrual hygiene items during lockdown. Thanks J&J. We’re so grateful for your support.

04.01.2022 Today in another group we support we saw a post from a carer needing a backpack and toys for a young boy who had nothing. Not even a single toy. Apparently, he likes Harry Potter. Of course we wanted to help so we headed out to straight away by him a couple of Harry Potter things and some clothes. We ended up getting kiddo quite a few new things! Some might say we went overboard but when I look in my own sons room and see how many toys he has, and knowing this little guy had... literally nothing, I didn’t feel so bad getting him a few extra things. His carer is going to keep some to pass on from Santa Giving is great. It really is. This gives us the absolute best feeling in the world. We can’t help everyone but today, one little guy who adores Harry Potter is going to have the best day. But the best part? This little boy gets to create memories with this. When he grows up he’s going to have memories of that time he was just like all the other kids and and some super cool things to play with. What we do with kids today forms their memories when they’re adults. We have a responsibility to make sure those memories are happy ones Have fun little man. We hope these gifts bring you so much happiness

04.01.2022 National Homeless Collective and Sisters In Safe Housing - SiS Housing Housing would like to officially thank our sponsors ANZ Bank and their wonderful employee Laura Fay. Thanks to Laura for nominating us for this grant. Because of this nomination we received $20800 from ANZ bank to set up SiS Housing and get it running. Behind every project there are many costs to get started including legal fees, business plans and governing documents. This grant will not only help us set... up the business side of SiS Housing, it will help pay for the first instant rent in advance loans for up to ten women. National Homeless Collective has been raising funds for the past 12 months to make this project come to life and is thrilled to also put in $20,000. This means 100% of every cent you donate will become someone’s rent or bond. To make SiS Housing an ongoing success we need your support. We want to see a time where not one woman in need of urgent and immediate rent and bond is denied. We want to see a time when women don’t have to tell their story of domestic abuse complete strangers to see if they’re worthy of support or not. We want to see a time where women don’t have to spend weeks and months in cramped single room hotel accommodation with their children. We want them to be home and safe. Please consider making a small donation to SiS Housing to help us help more women and children, and mature aged women into immediate housing. Our legal costs and admin are covered and this program will be run entirely by volunteers. Every cent you donate becomes a pathway home Recipients of SiS Housing loans will pay them back gradually over time at a rate that does not disadvantage them financially. This means more and more women can be helped as time goes on. SiS Housing BSB: 633000 ACC: 167902196 Bendigo Bank All donations over $2 are tax deductible. Please email [email protected] for a receipt Please include your name, date and amount of donation, and home you would like your receipt made out to.

03.01.2022 Yesterday I met with the Australian National Skills Commission with the goal of initiating changes in the employment landscape that will see more jobs available for people with housing insecurity and those experiencing homelessness. More needs to be done to address the individual employment needs of those who need extra supports put in place, who want to and are ready to work. We must have these conversations now so we will see a future where being unhoused is not a barrier t...o finding accessible, purposeful and enjoyable employment. This is just the beginning but we are starting to get a glimpse of a much brighter more inclusive future.

03.01.2022 We’re proud to continue supporting struggling families who’re really doing it tough during covid. There are many people unable to access adequate and timely necessities due to travel restrictions, isolation, covid affected close contacts and lack of safe transport. Every week we’re giving out thousands of nappies, tins of infant formula, hygiene items, Period Packs and new underwear, and awesome people like Dayle help us get it right to people’s door steps. This is what your donations help us to do. We appreciate each and every one of you

02.01.2022 A huge shout out and thank you to Costco for sending us this huge pallet of brand new shoes to support people experiencing homelessness. New warm comfortable shoes are very hard to come by when you don’t have enough money even for food and shelter. We are so grateful to be able to give these incredible gifts to our friends on the streets and those doing it tough. As alwyas we would like to thank our charity sponsor StarTrack for delivering these shoes to our warehouse. We are so grateful for your support.

01.01.2022 Once again we give a heartfelt thank you to Market in a Box for their donations of fresh fruit and vegetables for families doing it really tough during covid. These boxes have been delivered all over Melbourne to families who tell us they would have been without food for the week. A few of them said they were down to their last meal and it was days away before more more shopping could be done. One Mum told us, Thank you so much. I had enough food in the house for today but a...ll I had for the next two days was some noodles and some pasta. Now I know the kids will have plenty of fruit to eat and vegetables. I can’t thank you enough. We often add a Coles voucher when we deliver these boxes so that parents can buy other staples like meat, eggs, bread and milk. It really makes a huge difference to not only what the family eats, but also the stress levels of parents wondering how they’re going to feed their children. A huge thank you to Mel and Richard, and everyone who donates to Market in a Box to help make this happen. It means so much to the families we support.
