17.01.2022 Today, we commemorate the alliance that existed between the armed forces of Australia and New Zealand during the First World War. Our histories are more intertwined than you think. The Malayan Emergency was the longest continuous military commitment in Australia's history, lasting over 13 years between 1950-1963. Thirty nine Australians were killed and 27 wounded. In fact, during the Indonesia-Malaysia Confrontation between 1962-1966, an Australian infantry battalion & speci...al forces were deployed in Borneo to fight off the resistance. This occasion gives us all an opportunity to honour and express our gratitude towards the brave souls who helped bring us freedom. Lest we forget.
