25.01.2022 What A Year! (Part 1) Well, we’re getting close to the end of what’s been quite the year...so here’s a look back at some of the amazing exhibits that rolled through our doors in 2020! A few of them have gone gone to their owners already, but there’s still no shortage of awesome cars and bikes on display! Don’t forget, we’re open every day from 9am to 4:30pm, except Tuesdays and we’ll also be closed on New Year’s Day!
25.01.2022 Better Them Than Us! We braved a wet morning out on Mount Panorama for the start of this year’s Mount Panorama Punish! We also ran into former professional cyclist and Bathurst local Mark Renshaw from Renshaw's Pedal Project who was leading the field around the 6.213km circuit!
25.01.2022 1966 vs 2014! Its another stunning June day here at Mount Panorama, so we thought that we might shoot another couple of videos for you! Heres a little illustration of how things have changed in 50 years, or thereabouts!
25.01.2022 A Championship Winner! The second of our two arrivals at the National Motor Racing Museum today is the fantastic FG Falcon Supercar driven by James Courtney to win the 2010 Supercars Championship. Joining our 40th Anniversary of Dick Johnson Racing Special Exhibition, this car secured the team’s 7th Australian Touring Car title with a very memorable, and extremely wet race at the Homebush street circuit in Sydney! Our thanks go to the car’s owner Charlie Schwerkolt and everyone at Team 18 for loaning this beautifully restored piece of Australian motor racing history for the exhibition. The car usually lives in the foyer at Team18 in Melbourne, so don’t miss your chance to see it out in the wild!
25.01.2022 Similar, But Different! This week we had two new exhibits arrive to take their place at the National Motor Racing Museum! Both 2001 models, the Honda CR500 and Honda CR125 Longtrack motorcycles are on loan from local rider Scott Brown, and have a long history with a variety of riders winning State and National titles aboard these bikes! Come and check them our at the Museum- we’re open from 9am to 4:30pm daily, closed on Tuesdays.
22.01.2022 Join the team at Museums Bathurst!
21.01.2022 A Few More Shots From The Great Race! It’s fair to say that things around Mount Panorama for the 2020 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 were a little different to usual, but we managed to catch a little of the action around the pits, and on the edges of the podium celebrations! Hopefully we’ll be able to share it with you in person for 2021!
21.01.2022 Thanks JB! Visitors to our new Special Exhibition on the 40th Anniversary of Dick Johnson Racing might have noticed this rather special race suit among all of the great DJR race cars! Our good friend John Bowe kindly searched through his cupboards and dug out his Shell Racing suit from the 1993 Australian Touring Car Championship season for this exhibition! Thanks very much for the loan John, and hopefully we might see you up here in Bathurst once the border restrictions are... lifted! The Exhibition will run through until Easter 2021, and you can see it at the Museum from 9am to 4:30pm daily, and we are closed on Tuesdays!
21.01.2022 A Community Service Announcement! So many of our friends that walk, run or ride around the Mount Panorama Circuit drop by the National Motor Racing Museum for a, um, quick pit stop! From Monday 11 January, our toilets in the Museum foyer will be receiving a well-deserved overhaul, including provision of better accessible facilities for all of our visitors. This means that the only toilets available at the Museum are inside the ticketed areas of the display. For our visitors..., there are full facilities inside the museum, and we can’t wait to show you our new toilets once works have been completed! (Don’t worry- we will be preserving our rather unique collection of signatures in the Ladies’ Toilets, and will be displaying them for all to see!
20.01.2022 History In The Making! It was great to see our good friends Steven and Clay Richards up at Mount Panorama last week! Check out this interview with them as a third generation of the family comes to grips with racing at this iconic track!
20.01.2022 Todays Special Visitors! Things are pretty busy here with NSW school holidays, and among our visitors this morning were Angela, Wilbey, Tom and Ned here from Sydney. They had come to check out Angelas uncles bike - the fantastic MW Special drag bike. Completely scratch built by Mark Walker in the late 1970s, this 300 hp monster was intended to break 7 seconds for the quarter mile (400 metres). It was great to see the family checking out some of their own history, and enjoying all of Bathursts amazing attractions!
19.01.2022 1966 - The Year Of The Mini! Take a ride around Mount Panorama with us in our replica of the 1966 Gallaher 500 winning Mini Cooper S!
18.01.2022 Come Take A Tour With Fletch! Were really missing all of our interstate friends and visitors right now, so how about a virtual look around whats currently at the National Motor Racing Museum with Fletch from Classic Restos! And hopefully we can see you all in person before too long!
17.01.2022 What A Race! Well done to Shane Van Gisbergen and Garth Tander for a fantastic victory at Mount Panorama! See you at the Museum tomorrow morning from 8am!
16.01.2022 Group A Icon The latest car to arrive for display at the National Motor Racing Museum is one of the most iconic cars from the Group A era of Australian touring car racing, driven by two of the sports legends - the 1990 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500, built by Dick Johnson Racing. This car, DJR 6 was the final Sierra built by the team, and was driven by Dick Johnson and John Bowe at Bathurst in 1990 and 1991, and then by Terry Shiel and Greg Crick in 1992. The Museum is excited ...to announce that our next Special Exhibition to open at the start of October 2020 will look back at 40 years of Dick Johnson Racing, and mark the 40th anniversary of the infamous Rock Incident that destroyed Dicks Tru-Blu XD Falcon while in the lead of the 1980 James Hardie 1000. Our thanks go to the owner of DJR 6, Terry Lawlor for the loan of this fantastic race car, and we cant wait to show you what else will be joining the Sierra in our exhibition! Team Johnson Shell V-Power Racing Team Heritage Touring Cars

It’s been awhile since we’ve had a close up look at one of our exhibits, but we had the guys from ABC Central West drop by to check out the 1984 HDT VK Commodore ahead of screening the new Brockumentary (thanks V8 Sleuth) Brock:Over the Top on Tuesday night. Enjoy a look at this iconic car with Brad, and come and check it out in person soon!

13.01.2022 The Big Reveal! Okay Brock fans - heres the answer! (By the way, some great suggestions, and an excellent amount of lateral thinking happening out there ) Our latest arrival, courtesy of our friends at Holden is the 1985 RB Gemini Endurathon car! To create a buzz around the new Gemini, (and a very snazzy 1980s ad that you can find on You Tube...), Holden devised an 80 day endurance event, to simulate some 13 years of normal motoring. Using an early Elizabeth-built Ge...mini sedan, some 80 drivers drove this car 24 hours a day around Holdens Lang Lang Proving Ground between 17 February 1985 and 7 May, with the final stint being carried out by Peter Brock! The car received its scheduled logbook servicing during the trial, and also had a new fuel filter fitted at 61,000 km, a new headlamp bulb at 155,000 km and a loose electrical connection rectified at 178,000 km, completing an amazing 205,000 km during the test at an average speed of 107.2 km/h, including the time stopped for servicing, refuelling and driver changes! To ensure the safety and comfort of the drivers, the car was fitted with an awesomely 80s fibreglass roo bar, driving lights, a CB radio and a Telecom mobile phone, as well as optional air conditioning and a cassette player! Im sure changing tapes around the high speed banking at Lang Lang was exciting stuff! And not to mention the calm and comfortable brown trim... You may also note that the car has only done about 1500km since 1985 - well let you draw your own conclusions there Thanks again to everyone for your suggestions - it was fun seeing what suggestions came up!
13.01.2022 Wing Wednesday! We’re shaking things up a bit this week, and giving the wheels a rest! Here’s something pretty special from way back in 2016, and the lap record set by this car still stands, so this bit must work just perfectly!
13.01.2022 Worth Getting Up Early For! Heres a sneak preview of what rolled through the door this morning! More details and pics later today!
13.01.2022 Early Closing Today! We’re closed at midday today, but we’ll be back open from 9am on Sunday 27 December! Have a great Christmas everyone!
13.01.2022 The Voice Of Experience! Another of our recent oral histories done by our University of Sydney intern at the National Motor Racing Museum is this chat with former Bathurst Regional Council workshop manager Terry Morgan. In his 52 year career in the Council’s workshops, Terry was fortunate enough to work on almost all of the cars in the Museum’s collection. Take a listen to his memories of the cars, and some of the challenges in the various restorations over the years!
13.01.2022 Old Vs New! Just up around the mountain and ran into Ray and his beautiful XA Falcon GT sedan! A nice day for it, so we thought you might like to see some photos! Ray has owned this car for over 30 years, and as it happens, is the owner of Road and Track Services, which you may know as Fred Gibsons original workshop in Sydney. We sent him down to the museum for a look around!
13.01.2022 A Time-Lapse Lap! So if the quick guys in Supercars are getting around in a touch over two minutes, and our GoPro is taking photos every 30 seconds, I guess we have some work to do :) Make sure you come by and see us now that we have re-opened! Open from 9 am to 4:30 pm daily, closed on Tuesdays!
13.01.2022 What A Year! (Part 2) Here’s another look at some more of the great cars and bikes that have come through our doors during 2020! A nice variety- we try and have something for everyone that visits! Thanks again to all of the lenders that have provided their vehicles to the museum for display, and thanks also to all our visitors, members and supporters. It’s been a bit of a challenging year, but we’re so glad to have so many of you come in and see us when it’s been possible, ...and been with us online when that’s been our only option! And my personal thanks to all the National Motor Racing Museum team - our staff have been busy behind the scenes, and out the front to ensure that our visitors get the best possible experience! Here’s to 2021! Brad, NMRM Museum Coordinator
12.01.2022 Another New Arrival! Rolling through the door this afternoon was this super cool Mazda RX-7 Group C replica, belonging to our good friend Ron Horner. Originally driven by Paul Jones and Bob Skelton at Bathurst in 1982, the car infamously was assisted across the top of the mountain by a tow truck after running out of fuel, and coasted back to pit lane on its way to finishing in 18th outright. Ron was the owner of the car in 1982, and still owns the original car, as well as ...this one, which is set up for track duties complete with a turbocharged 13B rotary - just what the RX-7 teams would have loved back in the 80s! Make sure you check it out, along with a couple of other rotary powered machines currently on show! We’re open from 9am to 4:30pm daily, closed Tuesdays. The National Motor Racing Museum is located alongside the Mount Panorama Circuit, at Murray’s Corner.
12.01.2022 Monaros On The Mountain! Come take a run around Mount Panorama with us and explore the history of the Holden Monaro at The Hardie-Ferodo 500 in 1969!

Give us a call on (02) 6332 1872 between 9am and 4:30pm to order. Bathurst:Going Global is $99.95, plus $15.00 postage within Australia.

Sure, lets go with that Just a few of the awesome exhibits on show at the National Motor Racing Museum- make sure you come and see whats new since last time you were here!... And Ford fans, dont worry - tomorrow may well be Falcon Friday! The Museum is open from 9am to 4:30pm daily, and were closed on Tuesdays.
10.01.2022 A Perfect Day For It! Come down for Fathers Day at the National Motor Racing Museum! Were open until 4:30 this afternoon, with free entry for dads, and over 110 cars and bikes on show. And you can grab a photo with these fantastic cars outside!
09.01.2022 A Weekend Quiz For You! We received a new exhibit on loan on Friday, and before the big reveal, we thought we might give a few clues for you all to think about. This new car is a red Holden, with predominantly white sign writing, and in a gruelling endurance event, Peter Brock was one of the many drivers that piloted this vehicle.... Now, given that weve had the 2003 Bathurst 24 Hour winning Monaro 427 on show for quite a while, were certain that this new car is definitely not the first one that comes to mind! All willl be revealed tomorrow night...
08.01.2022 Fathers Day- 2020 Style! Our regular visitors will know that Fathers Day at the National Motor Racing Museum is a pretty special day! Unfortunately this year, due to social distancing and our COVID Safe measures in place, we are unable to offer rides around Mount Panorama in our fleet of replica race cars, but we will have free admission for all dads on Sunday 6 September!... Weather permitting, we will have some of our cars on display outside for that special Fathers Day Selfie, and you will also be able to see some of the iconic cars in our upcoming Dick Johnson special exhibition, along with over 110 racing cars and motorcycles from the history of Australian motor sport. If youre looking for a special gift for dad, check out some of the new arrivals in our gift shop as well! We will be open from 9 am to 4:30 pm on the day - we hope to see you there!
08.01.2022 Not What You May Have Expected? Although Dick Johnson spent his career flying the Ford flag, he started out in a series of Holdens racing in local events around Queensland. For his Bathurst 1000 debut in 1973, Dick teamed up with Bob Forbes aboard a Torana GTR XU-1, finishing in 5th place in his first attempt at the big race on Mount Panorama. ... The latest arrival at the National Motor Racing Museum for our upcoming Dick Johnson Special Exhibition is this replica of Dicks 1973 Bathurst XU-1, representing the early years of his amazing career! Thanks go to Tony for the loan of this great little race car!
08.01.2022 Two Door Thursday! Every story has to start somewhere, and the 1969 Hardie-Ferodo 500 at Mount Panorama was notable for a number of important firsts. After dipping their toe in the water during the 1968 race, Holden came back with an updated, upgraded Monaro, with the HT GTS 350 and the formation of the Holden Dealer Team, led by former Ford team boss Harry Firth. Also making their debut were two young racers who would make their mark at Bathurst over the next two decades...- Allan Moffat and Peter Brock. Today we welcomed in to our displays this fantastic Holden HT Monaro GTS 350, as driven by Des West and Peter Brock to third place in the 1969 Hardie-Ferodo 500. We thought it only fitting to drag out our replica of the 1968 race-winning HK Monaro GTS 327 to go for a little spin around the track together! This car will be on show for the next 12 months, so make sure you come by and check it out! The National Motor Racing Museum is open from 9am to 4:30pm daily, closed on Tuesdays. Stay safe, and we hope to see you soon!
07.01.2022 A Local Legend Departs! One of the more unique vehicles on show over the past year or so has been the 1964 Wolseley 24/80 of local owner John Lindsell. This car has participated in a record 32 Variety - the Childrens Charity Bashes over the years, covering well in excess of 400,000 kms in that time. But more importantly, the car has been supported all the way by Simplot, makers of the iconic Chiko Roll - one of Bathursts greatest exports (irrespective of where they were first invented)! Safe travels on the next adventure!
07.01.2022 Happy Australia Day! Here’s a couple of Aussie icons for the day! We’re closed today, but we’ll be back open again from 9am tomorrow! Whatever you’re up to for the afternoon, enjoy it, and see you soon!
07.01.2022 A DJR Mustang- From The First Time Around! Our latest arrival for the upcoming Dick Johnson Special Exhibition braved todays snowy conditions through the Blue Mountains to return to Mount Panorama! For the new Group A regulations, Dick Johnson purchased two Ford Mustang GTs from Zakspeed in Germany for the 1985 Australian Touring Car Championship season, with this car, Mustang 1 debuting at Bathurst in 1984. Although the Mustangs didnt see much success with the team, and t...his car was the teams spare in all three of its visits to the Great Race, this car represents an important era in Dicks career, as the transition between the XE Grup C Falcon and the dominant Sierra Cosworths. Our thanks go to the cars owner Brad Host for bringing this magnificent race car to Bathurst on such a wintery afternoon!
07.01.2022 Out For The School Holidays? Its been great to see so many visitors this week for the NSW School Holidays! Were open from 9am to 4:30pm every day except Tuesdays, but please remember that there may be some slight delays in entry while we take names and contact details in line with our COVID Safe plan! Weve had over 3,000 visitors to the museum since we re-opened in early June, and hopefully we will be able to welcome back our interstate friends when its safe to do so!
06.01.2022 No Prizes For Guessing This! Here’s a glimpse of our second new exhibit in today - if you know, then you’ll know
06.01.2022 Two Out... ...which just gives us some room for new exhibits! Although we’ve been a little quiet on the page of late, there’s plenty going on behind the scenes at the Museum. Hopefully we’ll be able to show you some of what we have been working on before long!... Something we can report are a couple of departures over the last day or two. We waved goodbye to the 1994 Bathurst 12 Hour pole sitting Mazda RX-7 and the 1986 HDT VK Commodore Group A - and a huge thanks to their respective owners for their generosity in providing these great cars for our displays! Don’t forget that we’re open daily from 9am to 4:30pm, and closed on Tuesdays. We hope to see you soon, especially to our interstate friends now that the border restrictions are easing!
05.01.2022 Sometimes, Thirteen Isnt Unlucky! The latest arrival at the National Motor Racing Museum is this fantastic AU Falcon V8 Supercar for our upcoming Dick Johnson Racing Special Exhibition! Built in 2001, DJR AU13 was the final AU Falcon built by the team, and scored a victory on debut at Queensland Raceway in the Queensland 500, driven by Steve Johnson and Paul Radisich. Picking up the nickname Delilah before Bathurst, AU13 recorded a DNF in 2001 and 2002 at Mount Panorama, an...d was retired following the Championship finale at Sandown in 2002. Our thanks go to the cars owner for the loan of this awesome race car, helping us tell the story of Dick Johnsons 40 years at Mount Panorama! Stay tuned for more arrivals in the weeks ahead!
05.01.2022 Happy Birthday To Us! Way back in 1988, the late, great Peter Brock opened the Museum on this day, over in the old media centre behind pit lane! Since then, we’ve changed location, changed names, and added more and more cars and bikes to our collection, and had dozens more pass through our doors on loan! Please feel free to share your museum memories over the past 33 years, and of course, we always love to see your photos, old and new!
04.01.2022 This Time Last Year! I know we are all keen to turn the clock back at the moment, but thats especially true for us this week! In late June last year we were filming some of the Museums cars out on Mount Panorama Circuit for the Immersive Room, which opened in September 2019.... Although the Immersive Room is currently closed due to COVID restrictions, hopefully we will be able to reopen it soon. But in the meantime, heres some photos of our cars on the track, and a look behind the scenes from the shoot with our mates at Ribbon Gang Advertising Agency!
04.01.2022 A Red Car Day! Today’s theme has definitely been red cars with two doors! The DJR Ford Sierra has unfortunately departed the museum this morning, but never fear, we have a couple of other great cars lined up to fill the gap in the 40th Anniversary of Dick Johnson Tacing Special Exhibition...hopefully we’re can show you those ones before too long!... And coming the other way is a familiar friend - the 2003 Bathurst 24 Hour winning Monaro is back after some exercise with Todd Kelly over the weekend! We’re open at 9am right through the week, and for those of you that are keen to check out the track, it’s all opened back up after the weekend’s action!
03.01.2022 RIP PB Remembering The King of the Mountain today, 14 years since he left us.
03.01.2022 Just A Quick Reminder! Although its now NSW school holidays, the National Motor Racing Museum will still be closed on Tuesdays, in line with our COVID Safe Plan. 01.01.2022 Back For Another Stint! This week we have also welcomed back the sensational 1994 Bathurst 12 Hour pole sitter, the Mazda RX-7 driven by Mark Skaife and Garry Waldon! Team mates to the winning car of Gregg Hansford and Neil Crompton in 1994, this car blew a turbo on lap 168 of the race, and failed to finish. And compared to some of the GT3 cars on show in our Bathurst 12 Hour and 24 Hour exhibition at the Museum, it shows how far the race has come since the production car era!
01.01.2022 Departing Today! This afternoon we waved goodbye to the fabulous Ford AU Falcon V8 Supercar that has been on display at the National Motor Racing Museum with our 40 years of Dick Johnson Racing Special Exhibition! Our thanks go to the car’s owner for allowing us to loan this great part of DJR history, and we can’t wait to see it again on track with the Australian 5 Litre Touring Car Association cars at a race meeting soon!
01.01.2022 On Show Now! Don’t miss our latest special exhibition celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Dick Johnson Racing, and Bathurst 1980...we guess that with the recent announcement of the team’s changes for the 2021 season, we might have to amend that last panel. We should hopefully be able to announce an additional car or two very soon, and this exhibition will run through until Easter 2021 - border restrictions permitting, we hope our Queensland and Victorian friends will be able to swing by Mount Panorama before too long!
