25.01.2022 A picture is worth a thousand words. Rachael, one of our Paediatric Occupational therapists, has been working with her client for the last 7 months on fine motor skills. The image on the right was taken in March 2020 and in just 7 short months her client has achieved significant improvements in handwriting. The image speaks for itself. Our therapists are skilled at identifying a client’s goals and working closely with them, their family and support network in order to achieve them. This is one of many amazing stories happening everyday at National OT.

25.01.2022 Today our SA Regional Manager, Lisa, is presenting at the OT Mental Health Forum on National OT's Ride the Wave program. This initiative was developed in response to COVID-19 and was delivered through Telehealth. National OT sought to find ways to support consumers living with psychosocial disability through telehealth group service delivery. The program focused on psychoeducation and skill development around high prevalence mental health issues, namely anxiety and low mood. Recognising increased isolation and limited access to face to face services, Ride the Wave was designed and implemented to address these immediate issues as well as deliver effective mental health services in an online group environment.

19.01.2022 A few before and after photos from a recent home modification completed by our OT Rachael. The modifications have made such a difference and had a positive impact on this family’s life. In addition to these home modifications, with the support of Rachael, the family has also had car modifications, a hi-lo bed, custom shower commode and e-fix wheelchair electrical add on approved. The combination of these modifications and equipment has provided such a great outcome for the client and their family.

02.01.2022 Renee is an independent 22 year old woman who works part time and was in desperate need of a new wheelchair. She had used her previous wheelchair since she was 12 years old, so a decade later it was definitely time to upgrade. Lucy, one of our occupational therapists worked with Renee to identify her needs and find the best solution. Renee needed to have a comfortable way to carry her bag to and from work without having to rely on a support worker to load it on and off. So... this chair features a bag hook which enables Renee to get the bag on and off with the click of a button and saves twisting awkwardly to reach it as she did before. Renee also wanted a chair that enabled her to adapt to the situation, not the situation having to adapt to her so Lucy and Renee included an elevate function. This enables her to order drinks at the bar (when it opens again!!) and more importantly to hug her parents at the same height. What a great outcome!! Renee’s smile says it all. See more
