24.01.2022 To all our Dance Mums. Thanks for everything you do every day. You're all superstars.

19.01.2022 Vale Margaret Mallinson (1927 2021) We were sad to learn recently that Mrs Margaret Mallinson, a treasured member of our community, has passed aged 94. Margaret was invited by Gailene Stock, director of the National Theatre Ballet School, to join the School for a few months to get the books shipshape in 1978. These few months turned in to years, with Margaret making an enormous contribution as Secretary and Bursar, eventually retiring just under 20 years later in 1997. ... Her accounting skills were excellent, but Mrs M is best remembered for her kindness and warmth that she shared with hundreds of students and parents over the years, especially welcoming those children who travelled from interstate to join the school. One of those students is Amber Scott: I met Mrs M in 1994 when she was wrangling children and parents each night at the ballet school door! She was the most vibrant, organised, and caring lady. She became a Melbourne grandma to my brother and I after we moved to Melbourne in the 90s. I will miss her dearly as will the many families and friends of the theatre who will all know and remember her with much love. Our sincere condolences to Margaret’s daughters, Heather and Cheryl.

19.01.2022 Sharing a ‘behind-the-scenes’ peek of some our younger ballet students during a photo shoot on The National Theatre stage last week. Artistic Director of the Ballet School Mr Damian Smith worked with Associate Artistic Director Miss Susan Sargison to gather new pictures for the school’s promotions. Let’s have a big cheer for our patient ballerina models! And thank you to all the parents who helped to make this happen by bringing your children in out of normal class time. It takes a village!

13.01.2022 It was all smiles on the weekend when our wonderful students took part in the variations workshop with the lovely Ms Ezlimar Dortolina. Thank you to all the students who attended, we can't wait to see you at the next Variations Workshop. Stay tuned for new dates to be announced soon!

11.01.2022 Happy National Volunteer Week! We would be lost without the work and input of our wonderful volunteers: we thank them for all the tireless work they do for The National Theatre - be it in the Board Room, behind the scenes at one of our huge productions, or in the wardrobe! Talking of productions, we are currently looking for a talented declutterer to bring some order to our costume store, and so if you have an inner Marie Kondo fighting to get out please get in touch with Steph at [email protected]

09.01.2022 As Reconciliation Action Week draws to a close, we have been reflecting on the theme More than a word. Reconciliation takes action. A proud Wonnarua Man of the Upper Hunter Valley, Damian Smith, our Artistic Director of the National Theatre Ballet School, is committed to nurturing dancers to flourish and surpass their potential. Following a successful career as a dancer, including 18 years at San Francisco Ballet as Principal Artist, Damian is determined to support young Ab...original and Torres Strait Islander dancers who want to purse a career in ballet. To achieve this action Damian launched the Arrellah Indigenous Scholarship at The National Theatre Ballet School. Arrellah is an Aboriginal word meaning Dancing Ground. Take action! if you know an Indigenous student who would be interested please share this scholarship information with them https://nationaltheatre.org.au/ballet/scholarships The unceded lands on which our students train are those of the Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nations and we pay our respects to their elders, past, present and emerging. #NRW2021 #Morethanaword #Reconciliation

08.01.2022 There's nothing our dancers can't master including taking on the classic art of Flameco dancing with style and grace. Don't miss the melding of dance and culture at the National Goes International on Saturday 26 June.
