23.01.2022 Sunset at #gluepotreserve camp site followed by some fun with a torch and long exposure. The nights were clear, stars abundant and heat nowhere to be seen . #exploreengageconnect

23.01.2022 This is one of our locals but the first time I’ve seen them cruising along the back deck. Almost looked like they were going to pop in the back door but decided to hit the garden for some snail hunting. What I didn’t capture was how they managed to get down the stairs. The clever little thing slid down the side rail on their tummy like a slippery dip Photo to follow.

22.01.2022 This little kooka has his curious face on. In actual fact he was watching a lizard on the ground which he picked up shortly after I took this pic.

22.01.2022 The Spiny-cheeked Honeyeaters were out in force at #gluepotreserve this week. Hearing their musical calls in the morning helped to thaw me out after the sub zero overnight temperatures. It’s always a pleasure to spend time on the red earth of the mallee.

20.01.2022 Hakea Laurina, also known as ‘pincushion Hakea’ gets its name from these spectacular cherry red, ball like flowers with white pin like stamens. They are native to southern parts of Western Australia and flower from Autumn through to late winter.

20.01.2022 I know it’s not #wrensday yet but I wanted to share this pic. I like the contrast of the little #superbfairywren singing his heart out against the light background of sky and dead olive branches. #exploreengageconnect

20.01.2022 Cockadoodledoo.....wakeup it’s Wrensday!!! #exploreengageconnect

19.01.2022 This little kookaburra saw me take out the camera to shoot a rosella and promptly flew straight over and landed on a low branch right next to me. They then proceeded to pose for some time and even waited around long enough for me to point another photographer in their direction. I hope he got some good shots too.

19.01.2022 New holland honeyeater sneaking a quick visit to the flowering gum under the noses of the bossy wattle birds. This little bird got chased away several times but kept sneaking back once the coast was clear.

18.01.2022 I want to give a big shout out to Minton Farm Animal Rescue Centre for receiving an injured musk lorikeet found in our street. Minton Farm Animal Rescue Centre is a not for profit organisation providing a free community service to rehabilitate and release injured and orphaned native animals and birds brought to the Centre, located in Cherry Gardens SA. Approx 300 orphaned and injured animals and birds are housed throughout 6 acres of onsite facilities. Minton Farm Native A...nimal Rescue Centre is owned and managed by Mrs. Bev Langley. Over 10,700 injured and orphaned creatures have been housed onsite that have been referred to the Centre by Councils, Cleland Wildlife, Adelaide Zoo and 18 Vets. Be sure to like their Facebook page to follow the progress of their rehabilitation animals and check out their website here: http://www.mintonfarm.org Thanks again Bev for helping out our little musk lorikeet.

18.01.2022 Happy #wrensday This splendid fairy wren is set against the red earth of the mallee at #gluepotreserve #exploreengageconnect

17.01.2022 It’s great to see the Banksia out at #wittungabotanicgarden

16.01.2022 #Wrensday is upon us, much like this little superb fairy wren who was perched so close I had to wind back my zoom to get ‘his blueness’ in the frame. As I moved on he kept following demanding more photos which I was happy to oblige. #exploreengageconnect

15.01.2022 This little #echidna looks like he got his nose stuck in the log. He is of course hunting for ants in the debris of the dead wood at #aldingascrubconservationpark #exploreengageconnect

15.01.2022 Back by popular demand... This little star turned on another awesome display of ‘learning to laugh’ at Belair National Park, getting in tune for Australia Day. Maybe by next year he will sound less like a baby dinosaur with a sore throat For licensing and usage, contact: [email protected]

15.01.2022 Sleepy #kookaburra in my backyard enjoying a burst of sunshine between the wild weather today in SA. #exploreengageconnect

15.01.2022 What a handsome little poser!! A mate sent me this pic he took with his phone while walking on the boardwalk near Taperoo SA. #beardeddragon

15.01.2022 This is one of the many stunning views from Sundews trail at #onkaparingarivernationalpark

14.01.2022 I never liked that mat anyway It's that time of year for our glorious birds to build their nests. They will use a variety of materials including door mats and hanging basket liners. Cheeky little maggie. (For licensing or usage, contact [email protected])

13.01.2022 This bloke received quite a bit of attention from the locals as he strolled down the street looking for a new tree for the evening. He kindly stopped and posed in the golden hour light for me before moving onto his new tree and calling out to the ladies, announcing his arrival. Another great opportunity to catch up with the neighbors while appreciating the local wildlife.

13.01.2022 Many of you who have been bush walking in Australia would have heard the unmistakable call of the Whistlers. I was lucky enough to see both a #goldenwhistler and a #rufouswhistler on the same day at #AldingaScrubConservationPark

13.01.2022 These furry friends were spotted during an early morning hike on the Sundews trails at #onkaparingarivernationalpark

13.01.2022 How many caterpillars can you see?? These processionary caterpillars were headed to new digs on the other side of our trail at #aldingascrubconservationpark (For licensing or usage, contact [email protected])

13.01.2022 This little buff-rumped thornbill was out enjoying the patchy rain at Belair National Park.

13.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there. I couldn’t believe my luck at #belairnationalpark today when we saw a group of some of the most dedicated fathers in nature. Male Emus are responsible for incubating the eggs, during which time they hardly eat or drink and lose a significant amount of weight. They then nurture their young which reach full size at around 6 months.

13.01.2022 Feeling pretty hyped... Thanks for the feature #birdsofaustralia

12.01.2022 Here’s a few of the residents of #AldingaScrubConservationPark who were also enjoying the perfect weather on the weekend. A tawny frogmouth, a black faced cuckoo-shrike and a mistletoebird.

11.01.2022 Oohhhhhhh...that’s the spot !!! This beautiful pair of rainbow lorikeets were taking turns to clean each other. I think this is the most satisfied / funny face I’ve ever seen on a lorikeet.

11.01.2022 What a handsome devil Can’t say I’ve ever taken much notice of a koalas profile. I think they’re even cuter from the side.

11.01.2022 I couldn’t believe my luck seeing a pair of wedge tailed eagles at #kyeemaconservationpark today. They seemed to be enjoying riding the air currents together on a very cold and clear morning.

10.01.2022 This male #mistletoebird is a bit fluffed up after a solid preening session at #aldingascrubconservationpark.

10.01.2022 Can you identify all the expressions made by this Tawny Frogmouth? Aside from the brilliant video, the dialogue explains a common misconception about this gorgeous bird.... they are not owls

10.01.2022 Does anyone know what might be going on with old mate here? He seems to have lost all the feathers around his head and neck. I recon he’s still beautiful. Seen at #belairnationalpark

09.01.2022 Fresh water turtle at #wittungabotanicgarden So cool to see one sunning itself on a log.

09.01.2022 One day a magpie and a kookaburra had an awkward mid-air collision

09.01.2022 Juvenile kookaburra at Belair National Park.

09.01.2022 Winter snake. I was a bit surprised to see this little red-bellied black snake moving about in winter at #kyeemaconservationpark on the weekend.

09.01.2022 Punchbowl waterhole at #onkaparingarivernationalpark This is one of the most stunning hiking destinations I have experienced in SA.

08.01.2022 What came first...the kangaroo in the grass or the grass in the kangaroo?

08.01.2022 A splash of blue against the red earth and mallee scrub of Gluepot Reserve. #splendidfairywren

07.01.2022 Just smile and wave boys... smile and wave. These cormorants were acting suspiciously on the #glenelg breakwater, checking for any sea vessels bound for Madagascar. Can you pick Kowalski’s cormorant cousin?

07.01.2022 Did you finish the week feeling a little like this? Thanks God it’s Friday Newholland honeyeater at Marino conservation park.

07.01.2022 A #splendidfairywren at #gluepotreserve a couple of weeks ago. I had to wait for #Wrensday to post, of course

07.01.2022 The koalas have been out and about at Belair National Park in January. Here’s a few of the fuzzy eared friends we’ve seen in the last month.

06.01.2022 It was a real treat to happen across this little echidna at #aldingascrubconservationpark on the weekend. They were busily searching the undergrowth for ants and breaking open the dead wood with their short beak. They spend so much time with their heads buried in the undergrowth, so it was nice to get this shot of them peeking over a log. #exploreengageconnect

06.01.2022 This is essential viewing for everyone:

06.01.2022 Drops of food and water are starting soon to help feed Kangaroo Island wildlife which have survived devastating bushfires. While we don't normally feed wildlife..., it's necessary due to the degree of habitat destruction. The food drops are a short-term measure until the burnt habitat regenerates and grasses grow to provide food for surviving animals. The land-based and plane food drops will begin next week. The land-based food drops on KI are being coordinated with RSPCA South Australia for the next three months. You can help by volunteering with the RSPCA, visit www.rspcasa.org.au/ki-bushfires-plan/ for more details.

06.01.2022 This collection of birds was taken in #onkaparingarivernationalpark on the echidna loop and Gorge trail. There is an eastern spinebill, male fairy wren, striated thornbill, newholland honey eater and female fairy wren.

06.01.2022 It’s a sleepy Sunday in the Belair National Park. Koalas are largely sedentary and sleep up-to 20 hours a day due to the lack of nutritional content in the eucalyptus leaves that make up their diet.

06.01.2022 I love watching kookaburras hunt. They are such efficient ambush hunters and it is always exciting to see what they catch after they dive down to the ground. This kookaburra had his steely gaze fixed on something in the grass at #belairnationalpark and when he finally dove down to claim his victim, it turned out to be a discarded chop from a nearby BBQ. That didn’t stop the kookaburra from smacking that chop repeatedly on the ground to make sure it was dead before enjoying their prize

06.01.2022 One day this baby Kookaburra will be king of the bush.

05.01.2022 #newhollandhoneyeater at #bullockhillconservationpark I’ve never seen so many of these birds in the one place. Such a beautiful little conservation park and well worth the drive if you are in SA.

05.01.2022 Eastern rosella getting among the blackberries after the rain at Belair National Park.

05.01.2022 Have you seen any pine cones?

05.01.2022 You’ll be fine, just don’t look down. This gorgeous big male was looking a bit sheepish trying to get out to the tastiest leaves on the end of the branch at #sturtgorgerecreationpark

04.01.2022 While stopping to take a photo of a purple wildflower at the top of a sandstone quarry I noticed a brown snake making its way up toward me. I guessed that I must have been near its home and it was trying to escape. It turned out that the snakes home was about two feet below where I was standing and I managed to get a quick pic as it disappeared into its hole. As a keen nature photographer I then setup on the other side of the quarry hoping to get a shot of it coming back out but after 45 minutes decided to pack it in. In the second pic you can see two holes in the sand stone wall where the snake lives. The final photo was a surprise whites skink that I only saw when reviewing the photos. It is about as big as a blue tongue.

03.01.2022 I spent the morning exploring the punchbowl link trail and descending the gorge trails to find this amazing waterhole in the #onkaparingarivernationalpark It’s a pretty steep and challenging hike but worth the effort to be able to sit on the rocks that span the river, listen to the rushing water and take in the view. Thanks to Ranger Steve from #nationalparkssa for the tip to check this place out.

03.01.2022 I’ve seen a few short-beaked echidnas in the scrub over the years but never seen one so actively digging and feeding. I got to spend about half an hour with this little echidna in #aldingascrubconservationpark watching them pull apart the dead wood and digging in the sandy undergrowth searching for ants. At one point they even climbed a small dead tree in their search and you can see and hear them feeding. It was nice to feel trusted enough that the echidna allowed me to stay with them for ages. (For licensing or usage, contact [email protected]) #exploreengageconnect

03.01.2022 Larger than life. This little wren was casting a big shadow on top of #mountboldreservoir #exploreengageconnect

02.01.2022 Check out this incredible scene over Adelaide tonight. There was thick fog over the city all day and it only got better once the sun went down. #adelaide #flindersuniversity #ABC

02.01.2022 I was walking home after a long photo session with black cockatoos and I happened across this beautiful juvenile magpie scratching in the scrub. I was so impressed with their colorings I unpacked all my kit to get a few shots. This ones my favorite.

02.01.2022 We were about to play the 4th hole of mini golf at #thebeachouse in #glenelg when I spied this pigeon taking a shower in the ‘water feature’ about 2 feet above my head. I hope it makes you smile

01.01.2022 This handsome little fella was changing trees during the golden hour at #belairnationalpark. He had to pass under a blackberry bush to reach his new tree which is evident by the small pluck in his fur. I was lucky enough to capture several shots in amazing light.
