22.01.2022 \\ evening rescue // 2 in 1 day // nest#1 stage one... Arborist legend & repeat Native Bee Rescuer - John Dee - found a nest, whilst contracted to clear a site..., & then contacted us again at Sydney Native Bees for another local T.carbonaria native stingless bee rescue. I’ve cut it off as low to the ground as possible, although the brood seems to be deep into the stump, & its inevitably going to be grinded I headed out just before dusk to begin the difficult & careful task of carving & digging out the brood, with hardly any room to work. The whole nest & some food stores have been boxed into a hive, the left until after sundown & with a spot light, for maximum population return of the disrupted colony. John did yet another great job in leaving the original log entrance untouched & only cutting at the ground point & away from the ceiling. The ‘log’ with food stores, & a percentage of the colony’s population deep within, have also been relocated with the boxed ‘hive’ for stage2 of this careful nest rescue. Once completed & recovered this hive will go to a local school for native biodiversity education. cheers again John !... M O R E to come... See more

07.01.2022 - So Large, Solid & Mature - The rotting roof rescue stage 1 Bees construction VS human construction... A very well established colony, close to 20years old w...hen this house was initially built, is in desperate need of removal before it literally drops from the heavily decayed ceiling and floor of this suburban balcony. The nest is actually the most solid piece of structure holding up this last section of villaboard. It is 700mm long, 400mm at its widest point near the entrance and almost 200mm deep. It has completely sealed itself off with a very thick and solid batumen plate outer crust (5mm thick) protecting the nest from the years of decaying man made structure. This mammoth resin smeared entrance had NE and NW runways, 2 options for flight paths depending on where the wind is blowing. Such massive landing patches giving them ample space crawl without crashing. - Stage 1 - was just the site and nest inspection. I cracked through the batumen plate, right at the back to asses the strength and thickness and made a small ‘finger sized’ hole. - Stage 2 - A strategic rescue, relocation and new ‘original site’ hive strategy is in place. 04.01.2022 __.... under the slab ....__ sound on An archaeological style, underground T.carbonaria nest rescue, that was truly surviving for may years within an old Xa...nthorrhoea - grass tree trunk, that was concreted, paved over & even sprayed. stage1 colony's population & nest 100% intact and safely removed from the construction site. stage2 to be relocated & appreciated at the local Public School coming soon...
