17.01.2022 Honeybees have a straw-like tongue called a proboscis. They use it to slurp up liquids and also for tasting. It is composed of several different parts. Like a ...tube within a tube. The outer tube part is used to suck up large quantities of liquid like water or honey. That’s what she is using here in this video to slurp up this droplet of honey. The smaller inside tube is used for lapping up nectar from inside flowers. It even has a hairy spoon-like tip to aid in the process of collecting small droplets of watery nectar. How cool are bees! It’s amazing what you can see in slow motion.
