08.01.2022 Did you know that being even a little DEHYDRATED can make you feel tired and also bring on cravings? The recommendation for water intake is to drink 2 litres or 8 glasses each day. I prefer to take a more personalised approach. Here's the formula: Take your body weight in KG’s & divide that number by 30 to determine how much water you should aim to drink in litres per day. For example, a 70kg adult: ... 70kg 30 = 2.5 Litres/per day. If you find the amount of water you need to drink overwhelming during the day, break it up into smaller amounts. Set an alarm on your phone or watch and aim to drink just 250ml (1 cup) for every hour you are awake . Remember, non-caffeinated herbal teas, such as peppermint, as well as broths can be counted toward your daily goal. Be mindful that caffeinated drinks such as coffee, black tea, and carbonated will increase your need for water so these should be reduced. If you are exercising, your body will also have a higher demand for water, so make sure you replenish during your work out. Flavour your water with some fresh fruit or herbs. Some good combinations include Cucumber and mint, lemon, raspberry, orange and ginger. If you don't like the fruit and herbs floating in your drink bottle, infuse a larger jug of water in the fridge and strain into your drink bottle during the day. Alternatively, many drink bottles have an inbuilt infuser section that you can use. How to tell if you are getting adequate water? Your urine should be a light yellow colour, except for your morning pee which will naturally be darker. If your urine is darker yellow or orange this is a clear sign you need more water. If your urine is completely clear, you are overdoing it and need to reduce your water amount. Are you surprised by the amount of water you need? Just remember that every cell in your body contains water and needs 'watering', just like the living plants and little humans around you. #water #cellularhealth #drinkmorewater #nativehealthandwellness #takecateofyourbody #stayhydrated #dehydration #H20 #hydrateyourself #flushouttixins #weightlosstips #womenshealth See more

06.01.2022 When it comes to hormones, it’s never one single thing causing the imbalance. STRESS: Increases cortisol levels which over extended periods will impact the way your hormones talk to each other affecting your health, hormonal balance. ENVIRONMENT: Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals are found in fragrances, plastics, cleaning products, makeup, and so many other products and negatively alter the way your body’s hormones interact.... SLEEP: Sleep deprivation increases cortisol levels during the evening, which promote increased levels of insulin resistance, furthering your risk factors for Type 2 Diabetes and obesity. NUTRITION: Every time our body creates a hormone, it requires a specific set of micronutrients for that process to occur. Without getting adequate nutrients from the foods we eat, we are sabotaging our hormone production. EXERCISE: Excessive exercise, especially at high intensity, can be a contributing factor for the absence of your period. It will also increase your levels of circulating cortisol further impacting your already compromised hormonal balance. GUT HEALTH: Our microbiome, the diverse range of bacteria in our gut, can assist or hinder the excretion of estrogen. When our ‘unfriendly’ gut bacteria are dominant, it allows estrogen to recirculate, causing many of the typical PMS symptoms. It can be a minefield pinpointing where to start with hormonal imbalance. As a Naturopath, I will work with you to find the underlying cause of your hormonal issues, not just addressing the symptoms. Want to learn more about your hormones? Head over to my blog to read my post, Hormones 101. Get in touch if you have concerns in any of the areas mentioned above.
