19.01.2022 It would seem I’ve turned into someone who enjoys everything about Christmas (I use to be the Grinch... just ask @gemma18561). So I apologise in advance for all the Christmas crafts to come in the next month and a bit. I have somehow refrained from putting up our big Christmas Tree just yet but decided to start bringing out a few ornaments to go with our DIY Mini Christmas Trees. Matty and I painted an egg carton yesterday and ta-da... this is the result today! All you need... is an Egg Carton, Christmas coloured paints, paintbrush, skewers and hot glue gun. The base is just the remaining egg carton and some material. 17.01.2022 Valentine’s Day has been and gone but we are still doing heart activities with left over cardboard Baby safe painting that the toddler had fun with too! #nativeofthesea
16.01.2022 Kickstarting our Christmas activities with fizzle presents Each fizzle present had a Christmas light cover in it that attached to a mini torch ($2 from Silly Solly’s - this also came in handy at 2:30 this morning as we changed smoke alarm batteries ). We used a cardboard box to explore each different attachment we uncovered! To create the fizzle presents we simply used the bicarb, water and food colour method and then froze it. Use vinegar to make it fizzle! Great fin...e motor skills activity as well as exploring science elements. 13.01.2022 Here is our new two-sided Face Recognition board after Matty destroyed the last one This board is a little different to the last with all the photos being immediate family that we don’t get to see often and we used doors instead of windows. We are hoping that it’s a way to get Matty familiar with faces so that when we reunite (one day soon hopefully ) he will love seeing them in person #nativeofthesea #nativeplay
12.01.2022 I’m not even going to have to put up our actual Christmas Tree at the rate we are creating DIY ones This one was actually inspired by Matty’s uncle Tim! He was telling us about how he created some Christmas trees from Palm Tree seed branches by painting and decorating them. So we thought we would try the same! First step finding a seed pod branch and painting it, second step decorating the cardboard cut out decorations, third step DECORATING Have you put your Christmas tree up yet or do you have a husband / partner who is strict on the 1st of December rule? My husband is strict so I am patiently waiting and creating in the meantime #nativeofthesea
11.01.2022 Through the power of Instagram / social media we have been able to gradually move away from commercially packaged activities and towards open ended creations. Don’t get me wrong, we still have toys and plastic items around our house but every day I learn more about children and their learning the more conscious I become of the toys we choose to have in our home. Also because I love getting creative and trying ideas I come across on here that promote learning and development just like this one from @homeofimaginations Alongside this I try (key word is try ) to keep my focus away from clocks and checklists and let Matty lead the way in play. I know that in doing this it helps me learn more about Matty and in turn myself #nativeofthesea
09.01.2022 Instead of ‘Barky Boats’ it was ‘Coconut Boats’ this morning Spent some time with my big little guy at the beach and it was the best We played in the rock pools and both got saturated I’ll do a post this week of a fun little activity we did while exploring. ... A little DIY from some of the cardboard and we have a mini road / city for our @themessycaterpillar Safari Toob Vehicles. 01.01.2022 Forgive me when I am angry. For most of the time I am not in fact angry, most of the time I am just jealous (and usually a little tired). I am jealous you get to go to work without worry. I am jealous you can leave the house without having to remember a million things. I am jealous you can just duck out for a beer with friends without days of pre planning. I am jealous that not a whole lot changed for you. But with that said I also wouldn’t change a thing and I am grateful I get to live a life I always dreamed of because of you. I get to stay home and watch our two boys grow up because of you. And while the sparks of jealousy will probably never subside the love forever outweighs those moments of anger #nativeofthesea
