21.01.2022 Dani, from 20 south of Canberra, got back in contact with us when her first attempt at sowing wallaby grass hadn’t shown great results and instead found her garden inundated with cape weed. We discussed trying a mix of wallaby and weeping next, as well as possible weed control options, one of them a fairly new idea of using sugars to kill annual weeds. Dani sent us through an update and she has shared with us the key things she learnt along the way growing her native lawn: T...he molasses required 2 goes for the capeweed and was effective in yellowing the plant and making it unhealthy. We still needed to pull it out though. But it was much easier and if we'd left it, it perhaps would have died, but it wasn't worth the risk. the best way to physically get rid of the cape weed was to pull it out manually with a weed removal tool. Interestingly, the mulch didn't really help. It was more effective just rolling the seeds in on the clay. Because the bare patches are mostly where the mulch is. We still have a lot of clover, but the grass is definitely in amongst the clover and the bees love it, so we happily left it. We love hearing from customers and hearing their experiences with what has and hasn’t worked for them. We believe that information sharing is key for industry growth and its potential benefits in reversing some of the environmental damage caused by biodiversity loss. If you have an experience you would like to share about growing native grasses, we would love to hear from you. You can email us at [email protected] to share your story. #grass #grasses #meadow #meadows #grassseed #plants #flora #gardening #instagarden #garden #backyardgarden #nativeplants #gardenideas #gardendesign #nativegardendesign #nativegarden #nativeplant #gardensofinstagram #nativegardeninspiration #nativelandscapes #plantingdesign #pollinatorgarden

10.01.2022 Native seeds recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Always Was, Always Will Be. We recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. Our nation’s history did not begin at European settlement and we encourage all Australians to embrac...e the true history of this country. This means actively taking the steps to learn and engage with the worlds oldest oral stories. One of the most important books of our time, Bruce Pascoe’s ‘Dark Emu’ is a great place to learn about the advanced land management techniques and skills that have been practiced by First Nations people long before the agricultural systems that we see today in Australia were developed. Techniques and skills that are vital if we want any chance to sustainably manage the land and transform the harshest habitable continent into a land of bounty. This intimate knowledge of Country can help mitigate climate change, catastrophic droughts and rising sea levels. We show our respect for indigenous and islander communities and encourage all communities to celebrate in the oldest continuing cultures on the planet. Always Was, Always Will Be. #naidocweek #naidoc2020 #naidoc
