02.01.2022 Name: Janet Location: San Jose, CA, USA Profession: Physical Therapy Recent PBs: Surf City Half Marathon 1h33m58s... Janet, could you share with us, what advice you would give to your younger running self? Like most runners, I ran through high school, college and on a club team. However, I was in and out of injury during this time. Finally, I had a slip and fall, which tipped everything over the edge, to the point where I was unable to run "normally" anymore. I went to physical therapy, "Yes even a physical therapist needs physical therapy from time to time". I had everything done from MRIs to injections and nothing worked. It wasn't until years of unsuccessful attempts to return to running, I took a step back. In October 2015, I stopped running and started working on my core strength and running technique. After this I was able to progress into running SLOWLY. I started with 2 miles a day 6 days a week and over the next 4 months, I was able to progressively increase up to 6 miles a day 6 days a week. Now I am happily back running after 7 years! In those 4 months, I have almost run quicker and further than before the injury. My advice to runners would be to not only run but also perform core strength and form drills. My professor at USC once told me "People run to get fit but you have to be fit to run." Years later I completely appreciate what that means. I also love to travel! So my goal is to visit all the continents in one passport! I had 5 of 7 in my last one! Next month I'm starting a trip to Hong Kong and Thailand! Follow, encourage and send love to @3drunner #runnerstories Want to be featured, find the link in our bio. www.runnersofearth.com
