23.01.2022 Field based athletes (especially footballers) perform hundreds of powerful movements each game where they sprint, accelerate and change direction. The deceleration and re-acceleration phases are very important but not often trained. Training for these intense actions can quickly enhance athletic performance. It also teaches the body to use the correct technique and positioning to reduce the risk of injury.

18.01.2022 The wall sit can be done anywhere around the house and it’s great for working the quads, glutes, calves and hamstrings. Make sure the thighs are parallel to the ground and the back is flat against the wall. I’m setting the target for our youth athletes at 90 seconds. Let me know if you can beat it

17.01.2022 A glass of milk after a game or intense training session can begin the refuelling and recovery phase for young athletes. It can replace carbohydrates and electrolytes used during exercise and provides protein needed for muscle repair. It’s also a useful tool in rehydrating athletes. A choccy milk can even be used for all these benefits.

16.01.2022 FREE YOUTH ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM With the hope that local sport may return in 2 months time a free program has been created to allow our young athletes to keep active, healthy and maintain athletic performance. 16.01.2022 A session that can be done at home. All you need is a ball and a tiny bit of space. Complete the circuit, rest/juggle for a minute and then repeat 2 more times. Give it a go. 16.01.2022 MEN’S HEALTH WEEK (15th-21st June) This week we want to create awareness to improve the physical health and overall wellbeing of all men. Improving health can involve getting in a few extra steps each day, eating nutritious food and having a chat with a mate. It is important to equip boys and young men with the knowledge of what overall health means.

11.01.2022 Exercise might not be the top priority for a lot of people right now and that’s okay. It doesn’t have to be lifting the heaviest weight or sweating up a storm but just something to keep the body and muscles ticking over. We need to continue to look after our bone health, heart health and maintain our muscle mass. Exercise does all this as well as release the body’s feel good hormones. Eat well, move well and be well

07.01.2022 Despite not being able to train, play or even watch games on TV, some positives can still be taken from the current lack of sport. Get your hands on some footage from your game or even a professional game to see what they do differently. Remember some feedback you’ve been given from a coach or work on parts of your game you already know you can improve. Most importantly, stay healthy.

06.01.2022 While there are health benefits of including coffee into the adult diet, caffeine intake in teenagers is often too high which can lead to poorer health outcomes. Caffeine can be found in coffee, tea, soft drinks, energy drinks and even dark chocolate. Caffeine affects children twice as much as adults Can massively reduce sleep quality and also affect the maturing process of the brain... Energy drinks are high in caffeine but also packed with sugar and a range of other stimulants affecting the brain Caffeine has its place in the diet including for sports performance however, intake should be limited in people < 17 years old.
