25.01.2022 Exercise for Stress Management Exercise is also helpful for managing stress. When you exercise, your body naturally releases endorphins. The endorphins affect your mood, helping you to release negative emotions. The effects of endorphins can last for several hours after a workout. You do not have to be an athlete to enjoy the positive, stress-reduction effects of exercise. Consider taking a 30- to 60- minute walk outdoors. Find a beautiful park and admire nature. During incle...ment weather, you could walk around a mall. Visiting the gym provides you with the opportunity to use workout equipment and challenge yourself. A combination of aerobic exercise and weight lifting can help you to build muscle and increase your metabolism. After a particularly stressful day, there is a level of satisfaction in releasing your energy while doing a leg press or bench press. If you have weary joints, try low-impact exercises such as swimming or yoga. If you are bored with your usual workout routine, try something new. Rock climbing, including indoor climbing, exercises your whole body while providing you with a challenge. Play some inspiring music to get your body moving while you exercise.

25.01.2022 If you want a healthy alternative to Nutella why not try this at home. You can even put it in your smoothie. Yum! Homemade Paleo Nutella Ingredients 2/3 cup hazelnuts... teaspoon salt 1 cup cacao powder cup coconut oil 1/3 cup + 1 tablespoon maple syrup Soak the hazelnuts in water overnight, then drain and rinse well. Put hazelnuts in a high speed blender or food processor and blend until smooth, then add salt and pulse to combine. Add cocao powder and coconut oil and blend to combine. If necessary scrape down sides of the jar. Add maple syrup and blend to form a paste. If by any chance the mixture separates, add warm water, 1 tablespoon at a time, while blender is running to bring the mixture back together. Place the Nutella in a jar and store in a refrigerator for two weeks. Serve with apple slices as a snack.
25.01.2022 Paleo De-SNICKER-licious cake! Easy Raw Cake Recipe! STUFF YOU NEED FOR THE BASE 1 cup macadamias... 1 cup shredded coconut 2 tbs. cacao 3 tbs. coconut oil Pinch of salt FOR THE FILLING 1 cup cashews soaked for at least 2 hours 1 1/2 cup coconut milk 1/2 cup coconut oil 12 pitted medjool dates 1 tsp. 100% vanilla extract 3 tbs. cacao Pinch of salt FOR THE CRUNCHY BITS 1 cup raw nuts (we used almonds and macadamias) 2 tbs. coconut sugar FOR THE CHOCOLATE TOPPING 1/2 cup coconut oil 1/2 cup raw cacao powder 1/2 cup nut butter (weve also used coconut butter before) 1 tbs. coconut sugar (optional) 2 tsp. 100% vanilla extract Pinch of salt NOW WHAT Line the base of a 20 cm (8 inch) spring form cake tin with baking paper and grease the edges with a little coconut oil. Start with the crunchy bits. Preheat oven to 180C (350F) and line a baking tray with baking paper. Place the nuts on to the baking tray and sprinkle with coconut sugar. Place in to the oven and bake for 10 minutes, mix around and cook for a further 3-5 minutes. Allow the nuts to cool, then whiz in a blender until crumbly. Leave this for now. Time to start with the base. In a food processor/blender, place all the ingredients and whiz until a smooth butter forms. Transfer in to the prepared cake tin and press the base down, making sure you press it out evenly, covering the entire base. Place in to the freezer. Now to start with the filling. Drain and rinse the cashews and place them in to a food processor/blender along with the coconut milk, coconut oil, dates, vanilla and salt (NOT the cacao). Whiz until completely smooth, this will take around 5 minutes. Pour three quarters of the mixture on top of the base, sprinkle with 3 tbs. of crunchy bits and place back in to the freezer. Now add the raw cacao to the remaining mixture in the blender/processor and whiz again until combined. Pour the chocolate filling on top of the caramel layer and place in to the freezer for 2 hours. Meanwhile its time to make this cake EPIC with all the chocolate topping! In a food processor/blender, place the coconut oil, raw cacao powder, nut butter, coconut sugar, vanilla and salt. Whiz until smooth and glossy. This will take around 5 minutes. The friction from the blender allows the ingredients to melt together nicely! Once the cake is set take the cake out of the freezer and rub the outside of the cake tin with a hot cloth and release the spring form slowly (you may need to run a knife around the edge). Place on to a cake stand, drizzle with chocolate, then sprinkle with crunchy bits, drizzle with chocolate, sprinkle with crunchy bits! Continue to do this until you run out of chocolate and crunchy bits! Cut in to slices with a hot knife and enjoy! Store leftovers in the fridge or freezer and thaw out when youre ready for a slice of de-snicker-licious cake! MERRYMAKER TIP Now... it seems like a long recipe but take it step by step and you can DO THIS! By The Merrymaker Sisters See more

23.01.2022 A GREAT VEGAN AND PALEO CHOC MINT SLICE FOR CHRISTMAS FOR THE BASE 1 cup almonds 1/2 cup shredded coconut... 2 tbs. coconut oil 1 tbs. raw cacao Pinch of salt FOR THE FILLING 1/2 cup coconut oil 1/2 cup canned coconut milk 1/2 cup raw cashews soaked overnight (or at least 2 hours) 1/3 cup rice malt syrup (you can swap to raw honey or maple syrup.) 10-15 drops of peppermint oil 1/2 tsp. matcha powder Pinch of salt FOR THE ICING 1/2 cup coconut oil 3 tbs. raw cacao 1 tbs. rice malt syrup (or natural sweetener of choice - as above) Line a 20 x 20 cm (8 x 8 inch) baking tray with baking paper, we like to use a silicone mould. In a blender or food processor place all of the base ingredients. Whiz until a crunchy butter forms. Transfer this in to the lined tin and spread out evenly, covering the entire base. Place in to the freezer. On to the filling. Rinse your food processor first. Drain and rinse the cashews. Place all of the filling ingredients EXCEPT, we said EXCEPT the rice malt syrup in to the blender. Blend on medium speed until super smooth. Now add the rice malt syrup and blend on LOW SPEED until smooth. You do not want the filling to heat as the rice malt syrup will separate. Place the filling on top of the base and smooth out the top. Place back in to the freezer. Rinse the blender. Now for the icing. Place all of the ingredients EXCEPT the rice malt syrup in to your blender and blend on high until smooth. You don't need to melt the coconut oil first as the friction from the blender will slowly melt it all together. Now add the rice malt syrup and blend on LOW SPEED until smooth. Spread the icing on top of the filling and place in to the fridge for about 30 minutes. Once set, slice and ENJOY! Holley deliciousness! NOTES Merrymaker tip: Don't like mint? Flavour your filling with vanilla or berries or more cacao! https://themerrymakersisters.com/vegan-and-paleo-choc-mint/ . . . #naturopathy #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicdoctor #health #nutrition #wellness #nutritionist #naturalmedicine #homeopathy #healthylifestyle #healthyliving #healthy #healing #holistic #foodismedicine #naturopathichealth #naturalhealth #naturopathyforliving See more

22.01.2022 Who said chocolate wasnt healthy? These delicious, fudgy, nutty brownies are jam-packed full of magnesium which helps to support muscle function. Magnesium is important in how our muscles relax and contract and our muscles certainly do a lot of that every day. Eating dark chocolate and nuts is a great way to boost those magnesium levels to help you move better. Youll also get a healthy dose of antioxidants too! Fudgy Nutty Brownies by Jillian Foster Natural Health Ingre...dients: - 200g dark chocolate (minimum 70% cocoa), finely chopped - 130g Medjool dates (fresh, pitted), finely chopped - 180g coconut oil (organic, cold-pressed) - 30g coconut flour - cup nuts (peanuts, almonds, brazil nuts, walnuts), roughly chopped - 4 eggs - tsp vanilla extract - Pinch of sea salt Method: - Preheat oven to 190C - Line a 22cm square baking dish with baking paper - Add chocolate, dates, coconut oil to a double boiler saucepan and whisk on a low heat for 5 minutes until melted and smooth - In a bowl combine coconut flour and nuts - Add melted chocolate/date/coconut oil mixture to the flour and nuts and mix well - Add eggs, vanilla extract and sea salt to the mixture and mix until well combined - Scrape mixture into prepared baking dish and top with chopped nuts or leave plain - Bake in preheated oven for 18-20 minutes (careful not to overcook or they wont be fudgy!) - Allow to cool before cutting into squares. Keep refrigerated and eat within 5 days (if they last that long!) If you dont have fresh dates, you can use dried dates, just soak them for at least an hour first. You can omit the nuts if you choose, the brownies will still taste delicious! #Magnesium #BioCeuticals #Recipe #FudgeBrownies #BrownieRecipe See more

16.01.2022 How to Support Immunity Holistically with Foods and Herbs This year has been a lesson in just how much we need to be supporting our immunity. Without a healthy, vibrant immune system, were susceptible to all manners of illness. But when our system is thriving, we become truly free to live our best lives. Nature offers an endless abundance of herbs and foods to support our immunity, but here are a few of the most potent sources that I reach for constantly. Protein... A diet lacking in protein has been found to disrupt the function of the immune system. Be sure to include protein-rich foods like eggs, meat legumes, and nuts at every meal. Antioxidants A diet high in antioxidant-rich foods will help to support the immune system due to its high content of phytochemicals. These help to mediate tissue injury produced as part of the bodys defense against infection. Incorporate an array of colorful vegetables and fruits like dark leafy greens, beetroot, and tomato. Vitamins A, D, E And K (Our Fat-Soluble Vitamins) These vitamins are involved in modulating the immune system and are found in foods such as egg yolk, carrots, apricots, fish liver oils, salmon, tuna, hazelnuts, and dark leafy greens. B Vitamins B vitamins are important for antibody formation- which is the component of the immune system that neutralizes pathogens. B vitamins are found in whole grains, spirulina, beef, lamb, eggs, salmon, sardines, green vegetables, mushrooms, avocados, bananas, chicken, tuna, and barley. Probiotics Probiotics are involved in healthy gut function, as well as a number of components of immune response including inflammation and allergies. Foods containing probiotics are natural yogurt, kefir, and fermented cabbage. Essential Fatty Acids The Key role of EFAs in immune function is preventing inflammation, and are required for the structure and function of the immune cells. Include foods such as sardines, salmon, and flaxseed oil. Zinc Zinc is a significant antioxidant in the immune system with numerous roles including antiviral activity. Foods high in zinc include pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, seafood, egg yolks, and beef. HERBAL MEDICINE Echinacea: modulates and balances the immune system. Calendula: facilitates lymphatic circulation and aids in the removal of toxins from the body. The immune system is reliant on a functioning lymphatic system. Lemon Myrtle: high in antioxidants, and has been traditionally used for respiratory infections. Marshmallow leaf: traditionally used to strengthen the immune system by helping to remove toxins and raising resistance to disease. Peppermint: antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-septic; this protecting the body from infection. Licorice: antiviral, anti-inflammatory and protects the tissues of mucous membranes. https://www.foodmatters.com//how-support-immunity-holistic

15.01.2022 Raw Cacao vs Cocoa: Whats The Difference? Cocoa looks the same but its not. Cocoa powder is raw cacao thats been roasted at high temperatures. Sadly, roasting changes the molecular structure of the cacao bean, reducing the enzyme content, and lowering the overall nutritional value. What Are The Health Benefits Of Raw Cacao? Lowers insulin resistance... Protects your nervous system: Cacao is high in resveratrol, a potent antioxidant also found in red wine, known for its ability to cross your blood-brain barrier to help protect your nervous system Shields nerve cells from damage Reduces your risk of cardiovascular disease Reduces your risk of stroke Reduces blood pressure Reduces your risk of cardiovascular disease: The antioxidants found in cacao help to maintain healthy levels of Nitric Oxide (NO) in the body. Although NO has heart benefiting qualities, such as relaxing blood vessels and reducing blood pressure, it also produces toxins. The antioxidants in cacao neutralize these toxins, protecting your heart and preventing against disease. Guards against toxins: as a potent antioxidant, cacao can repair the damage caused by free radicals and may reduce the risk of certain cancers. In fact, cacao contains far more antioxidants per 100g than acai, goji berries, and blueberries. Antioxidants are responsible for 10% of the weight of raw cacao. Boosts your mood: cacao can increase levels of certain neurotransmitters that promote a sense of well-being. And the same brain chemical that is released when we experience deep feelings of love phenylethylamine is found in chocolate. It is rich in minerals: magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium, zinc, copper, and manganese. If Cacao Is More Beneficial Than Cocoa Because Its Raw, What Happens When We Cook It? Very good question and were glad you asked unfortunately, there is no science on whether or not heating raw cacao destroys its antioxidant level making it more akin to its heated and processed cousin cocoa. BUT we figure if you start off with the product in its raw form, it has to be more beneficial than starting with an already heated and processed equivalent. Lets End With An Interesting Tid-Bit Research shows that dairy inhibits the absorption of antioxidants from raw cacao. So if youre making a cacao shake youre better off using non-dairy milk like almond or coconut in order to reap all of the antioxidant benefits. https://www.foodmatters.com/article/raw-cacao-vs-cocoa- whats-the-difference

All you need here is a food processor to blitz together your gluten-, dairy- and refined sugar-free ingredients to create three stunning layers. I love this tropical combo of mango, macadamia, and coconut with a squeeze of zesty lime juice to make all... the flavors sing. Macadamias are waxy so they are fantastic for creaming, but cashews work equally well. Ingredients for the base: 90 g (11/2 cups) shredded coconut 160 g (1 cup) raw macadamias 8 Medjool dates, pitted 1/2 teaspoon sea salt flakes 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon for the filling: 240 g (11/2 cups) raw macadamias, soaked in cold water overnight, drained 270 ml can coconut cream 125 ml (1/2 cup) pure maple syrup 2 tablespoons coconut oil finely grated zest and juice of 1 lime 2 teaspoons vanilla extract for the topping: 160 g (1 cup) raw macadamias, soaked in cold water overnight, drained 125 ml (1/2 cup) coconut cream 2 ripe mangoes, chopped 80 ml (1/3 cup) pure maple syrup 1 tablespoon coconut oil finely grated zest and juice of 1 lime pinch of sea salt flakes to serve: grated lime zest and toasted coconut flakes Method Line a 20 cm square cake tin with a removable base with baking paper. To make the base, place all the ingredients in a food processor and blitz for 30 seconds to form a textured paste. Tip the paste into the tin and press firmly and evenly into the base. Rest in the freezer. For the filling, blitz the macadamias in a food processor to form a paste. Add the remaining ingredients and blitz until smooth. Pour the filling into the tin, then return to the freezer for 2 hours to firm up. To make the topping, blitz the macadamias in a food processor to form a paste. Add the remaining ingredients and blitz until smooth. Pour over the filling and smooth out with a spatula. Freeze for 4 hours. Thaw the cake for 10 minutes, then use a hot knife to cut into 6 square pieces. This cheesecake is best-eaten semi-frozen. Before serving, top with grated lime zest and toasted coconut flakes. Store your raw cake in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 weeks. https://www.foodmatters.com//raw-mango-macadamia-cheesecake

08.01.2022 The Relaxing Benefits of Tea Many teas offer stress management and relaxation benefits. Chamomile tea is made from the dried flowers and leaves of the chamomile plant. This tea is believed to help reduce anxiety and insomnia. Chamomile tea also helps to calm an upset stomach, which is a common symptom of stress. Because chamomile tea is caffeine-free, you can drink a cup of it about 30 minutes before bedtime to promote a good night's sleep. Another great tea to try is pepperm...int. This type of tea provides benefits such as good digestion and enhanced relaxation. Peppermint tea is also free of caffeine, which makes it a good choice for drinking before bedtime. Menthol, the active ingredient in peppermint tea, also helps to reduce inflammation and pain. Stress hormones such as cortisol increase inflammation and pain, so drinking the tea can combat these effects of stress. The act of making tea is also relaxing. Choose a beautiful teacup and saucer to treat yourself. Add a few drops of lemon juice for immune-boosting vitamin C and a few drops of raw, organic honey for additional health benefits and sweetness.
08.01.2022 What is metabolic syndrome? metabolic: relating to or deriving from the metabolism of a living organism. syndrome: a group of symptoms which consistently occur together, or a condition characterized by a set of associated symptoms.... Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that occur together, increasing your risk of heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. These conditions include: increased blood pressure high blood sugar excess body fat around the waist abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride* levels Having just one of these conditions doesnt mean you have metabolic syndrome. But it does mean you have a greater risk of serious disease. And if you develop more of these conditions, your risk of complications, such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease, rises even higher. *Triglycerides are fats from the food we eat that are carried in the blood. How common is this syndrome? Metabolic syndrome is increasingly common, and up to one-third of adults have it. Symptoms Most of the disorders associated with metabolic syndrome dont have obvious signs or symptoms. One sign that is visible is a large waist circumference. And if your blood sugar is high, you might notice the signs and symptoms of diabetes such as increased thirst and urination, fatigue, and blurred vision. How does this affect ones health? Metabolic syndrome is a serious health condition that affects about 23 percent of adults and places them at higher risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke and diseases related to fatty buildups in artery walls. The underlying causes of metabolic syndrome include overweight and obesity, physical inactivity, genetic factors and getting older. 07.01.2022 The Benefits of Zinc Boosts Immune System Hair Health Acne... Fertility/Pregnancy Gut Health Diabetes Hormones and Thyroid Health Depression Hearing Vision Bone Health Taste Changes What is Zinc? Zinc is an essential anti-inflammatory and antioxidant nutrient for many biological processes in humans. It is relatively well known to be good for supporting the immune system, but it may also be very important for reproductive health, proper growth and development in children, bone health, vision, hearing, digestive health, skin, and hair growth. What Happens if Your Zinc is Low? Deficiency may cause a wide range of non-specific symptoms including delayed growth in children, low appetite, hair loss, weight loss, diarrhea, brain fog, depression, infertility in both men and women, hormonal imbalances, tremors, slow wound healing, poor immunity, and loss of taste. People may be at risk for zinc deficiency when they have a low caloric intake, suffer from certain digestive disorders, have a history of gastrointestinal surgery, liver or kidney disease, certain blood disorders, suffer from alcoholism, or follow a vegetarian diet. Elderly people also often have difficulty absorbing zinc properly. The human body does not store zinc, so a deficiency can happen quickly if intake is not adequate. Severe deficiency is rare, but mild to moderate insufficiency is relatively common. Copper works together biochemically with zinc, and taking too much zinc for too long may lead to copper deficiency. This is why sometimes it is recommended to take zinc and copper supplements together, especially with very high doses of zinc. What Foods Are High in Zinc? We must obtain zinc from food, with oysters being the single best source of zinc by a large margin. Most people obtain the majority of their zinc from red meat and chicken. Zinc is also in grains, nuts, seeds, and beans, but it is less bioavailable for absorption due to the presence of phytates, which bind to the zinc and make absorption difficult. Vegetarians may increase the bioavailability of zinc in grains and beans by pre-soaking them in water for several hours to reduce the binding of phytates. Book in with one of our Naturopaths to discuss your specific health issues and they can get you back on track to enjoy more energy and vitality! Line the base of a 20cm cake tin with baking paper, and grease the sides with butter or coconut oil. Place eggs and honey into TM bowl, insert butterfly whisk, and mix 4 mins/speed 4. Add lemon zest and lemon juice and mix another 2 mins/speed 4. Remove butterfly. Add almond meal, bicarb soda, yoghurt and olive oil to bowl, and mix 20 sec/speed 4. Pour batter into the lined cake tin and place it into the baking dish. Pull the centre rack halfway out of your preheated oven and carefully place the baking dish on it. Using a kettle, pour very hot water carefully into the baking dish until the water reaches halfway up the sides of the cake tin. Gently slide the oven rack back into place, taking extra care not to slosh the water around. Bake for 45 mins, or until lightly browned on top. Gently slide oven rack out and carefully cover cake with foil (not touching cake) or a pot lid. Slide rack slowly back in, and cook another 25-30 mins, or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. (It will be slightly moist inside, but the top and sides of the cake should be golden brown and firm to touch.) Remove cake from oven and leave covered while preparing syrup. Syrup Place lemon juice, honey or maple syrup, and water into a clean TM bowl and cook 5 mins/Varoma/speed 2. Poke holes all over cake with a thin metal skewer and pour half the hot syrup over the cake. Wait until it sinks in, then pour over the remaining syrup. Cover cake and allow to sit and cool for 30 mins. Run a butter knife around the side of the tin to loosen cake. Release from pan. Decorate cake with zest. Slice and serve with cream or yoghurt. Conventional Method Cake Follow step 1 as above. Whisk eggs and honey with an electric mixer until fluffy, then add lemon zest and juice and whisk another couple of minutes. Add almond meal, bicarb soda, yoghurt and olive oil to bowl, and mix until smooth. Pour batter into the lined cake tin and place it into the baking dish. Continue as above. Syrup Place lemon juice, honey or maple syrup, and water into a small saucepan and simmer over low heat for 5 mins. Continue as above. Notes * For ample water circulation, the baking dish should be wide enough to leave a 2-4cm edge around the cake tin, and the sides should be high enough to hold about 4cm of water. 06.01.2022 An easy-to-digest source of nourishment, bone broth is packed with vitamins and minerals, collagen and keratin, glutamine and gelatin all of which support the gut. Healthy fats in the broth help to assimilate vitamins such as Vitamin D. Check out the tips for many ways you can make, store and use bone broth in your diet. Ingredients:... 2-3kg beef bones, lamb bones, chicken or fish carcasses A couple of handfuls of onions, leeks, carrots or celery your choice! 1 tbsp black peppercorns A few dried bay leaves Fresh garlic, ginger, turmeric (optional) Dash of apple cider vinegar or fresh lemon juice (helps to extract the minerals from the meat bones) Method: Place the bones and vegetables into a large stainless steel cooking pot and cover with cold water. The water level should cover the bones by 5 cm while still leaving room at the top of the pan. Cover with a lid and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, lid on, for at least 6 hours for chicken and 12 hours for beef or lamb, skimming off any foam that rises to the top. The longer the bones simmer, the more nutrients are released. You can boil chicken carcasses for up to 12 hours and beef bones for 24 hours. Strain the liquid and discard the solids. Use immediately or leave to cool before storing (in glass). Note: Bone broth will keep in the fridge for several days or up to a week if you leave it undisturbed, as a layer of fat will form on the surface and keep it sealed from the air. Freezer friendly for up to 3 months. Tips: You can also make bone broth using a slow cooker on high for 12 hours or more. Beef bones produce a lot of nutritious fat. As your broth cools this will form on the top. Skim this off and save it for roasting veggies! Stores for 3 days in the fridge or freezer. You can use your broth for cooking rice or quinoa; adding to soups, curries and stews (like our chicken soup for the gut recipe!); or even drink as a soothing bedtime brew. 05.01.2022 True cinnamon, also called Ceylon cinnamon, is an exotic spice native to Sri Lanka (formerly known as Ceylon). It is a warming tonic great for this chilly time of year. Cinnamon can be used to increase general circulation and can be especially useful when someone has chronically cold hands and feet. It can also benefit acute situations like colds and the flu in which the person feels shivery and cold. Cinnamon can help ease digestive issues like indigestion and cramping and b...ecause of its mild astringency it will help firm loose bowels and is an effective diarrhoea remedy. Numerous clinical studies have shown that cinnamon can dramatically benefit people with type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. A 2019 meta-analysis on the efficacy and safety of cinnamon in type 2 diabetes mellitus and pre-diabetes patients found that cinnamon significantly reduced fasting blood glucose and insulin resistance levels compared to placebo. Sixteen randomised controlled studies were included. Cinnamon has a strong antioxidant capacity and can be used to decrease inflammation caused by oxidative stress. In one small study 36 women with rheumatoid arthritis were given either two grams of cinnamon or a placebo for eight weeks. After eight weeks those taking the cinnamon showed significantly decreased inflammation and pain as well as lower diastolic blood pressure. Our Naturopaths can formulate a herbal tonic using cinnamon as one of the ingredients.
