24.01.2022 . It is "" word in the animal industry, but it's time we change that. I'm here to make you think differently about your dogs and you for that matter. I hear a lot of people tell me that " " or " ' " OR MY FAVOURITE " " ... Ask yourself this, what was the last thing your dog chose? Food, bed, whether it could come inside or outside, where it's walked, how it's walked, what equipment it was walked on, who it socialises or doesn't socialise with, what goes on or in its body, what it slept on, where it slept, how it is trained, when it eats or doesn't eat. , how many did you answer yes to? The reality is that we essentially make every choice for our pets. We limit their ability to make choices, label them stupid or just dogs. But the reality is they know themselves better than we do. They know what foods are nutritious and species appropriate, what makes them feel safe or in danger and they know how to socialise with other dogs. Then what limits their ability and causes common health and behavioural issues in our pets? US. YES US. Our choices for our dogs while mostly well intended are in the pursuit of the "" norm of control and obedience. So I'm here to flip this norm and ask you, rather than making all your dogs choices for it, what would happen if you allowed them to choose more things in its life? Research tells us that confident dogs are those that are able to make choices. Dogs that have had behaviours reinforced positively not punitively are more empowered to make what we in society like to label " ". So I dare you...let your dog choose something for themselves....their choice might just make you rethink how much we force on them and expect them to adapt and cope. They are , and we don't always know what's best. @ Darwin, Northern Territory

20.01.2022 armful dverse earned Helplessness orture nhumane... HALTIS These are on my list of items I will spend my life educating dog owners about their physical harm. They are NOT gentle, they are . ' . Put your finger on the bridge of your nose. Rub firmly for as long as you can before it annoys you. That's pretty close to what a halti feels like for a dog BUT with the added discomfort of a 60kg + human yanking their head to stop pulling. Even a gentle t-bag or tug on a halti is painful for a dog.The head and neck of a dog contain nerves that impact movement to other parts of the body and brain. For that reason, they are an extremely effective training tool. I've never seen a dog pull on a halti. Your dog out of fear of pain from your gentle tug isn't game to walk anywhere but the heel position. A recent study by Myerscough College showed that 62% of dogs in a halti tried to remove it by pawing or rubbing their face on the ground, indicating significant discomfort. Here's from my experience in treating dogs why I don't recommend halti's: - The dog must walk at owner's pace and gait, to avoid being pulled. This means the dog can't naturally vary its pace and gait. - Their ability to sniff and explore their environment is removed. The head must stay up to avoid being pulled back by the owner. - Panting is restricted as the lower jaw is impeded by the equipment - Many dogs have a wear mark across their nose. I have treated many dogs who have worn halti's with head and neck injuries similar to whiplash injuries which has also caused injuries to other parts of their spine and limbs. Halti's are painful and are causing pain and injury to our dogs. Pulling can be trained more humanely in a well fitted harness such as an Anny-X or a Haqihana that allows the dogs full range of natural movement and if pulling occurs the physical impact on the animals is less severe. When considering equipment for your dog ask yourself, "If I wore this how would I like it?" If you need help with injuries your dog is experiencing or help with how to train your dog not to pull without a halti, get in touch. We'd love to help you and your dog be happier. @ Darwin, Northern Territory

19.01.2022 Say hi to Kiah I met Kiah recently. Her owners came to me looking for natural alternatives to her condition. She had a nasty cough that was driving her and her owners a little crazy. After 2 years of tests and more tests the vets were able to confirm she had Curvularia Lunata. It is a nasty fungal plant pathogen that can cause disease in both humans and animals. Hers had found its way to the top of her lungs. As a young dog, they were hesitant about the antibiotic medicat...ion for this condition which can in instances cause heart issues, plus it is very expen$ive. I proposed a natural alternative to her owners and vet (in complex cases I love a good team effort). This protocol included some heavily diluted anti-fungal essential oils paired with a herbal anti-fungal remedy I blended. Within 4 weeks her cough has almost gone. Still not convinced. to see what her owners had to say. @ Darwin, Northern Territory

18.01.2022 I have treated quite a few dogs for adverse reactions such as seizures to these drugs. Remember that there are lots of natural alternatives without the harsh side effects. Short term gain..long term pain with products like these.

18.01.2022 A bone a day keeps the doggy dentist away.

17.01.2022 - Did you know that struggles like reactivity, excessive barking, pulling on lead and generally being distracted can represent a complex interaction between: - Your dog's health - Your dog's health - Your approach to your dog... And when things get bad, it can sometimes seem tricky to know which to tackle first, or we often forget about the gut and the brain and blame the dog. Just like us, levels of brain chemicals (such as serotonin) influence , , levels and the choices you make. There’s increasing evidence showing that the microbiome directly creates neurotransmitters (like serotonin) as well as influences production of these chemicals in other body areas. This, in turn has a huge direct impact on brain health and as such behaviour! As you have probably guessed there are lots of ways brain-gut-behaviour balance can become ITE. These problems are self-perpetuating and often are constantly reoccurring in our dogs. I advocate for looking at the . This ensures we are bringing all areas of your dog's health and wellbeing into alignment. Happy - Connection = . @ Darwin, Northern Territory

14.01.2022 Rice is ! Most vets, breeders and trainers tell dog owners to feed chicken & rice as a staple ingredient in their diet or as part of a bland diet. , this is wrong for a number of reasons.... 1. . Dogs struggle to digest rice. It is hard work for their bodies to break down. It is a carbohydrate and dogs have little nutritional requirement for carbohydrates in their diet. 2. . This means it can cause a rapid spike in blood glucose levels. This is why dogs with Pancreatitis or Gastrointestinal inflammation should not be prescribed rice although they are. Now onto 1. is one of the two most common protein intolerances or sensitivities for lots of dogs. 2. on the market is factory farmed and mass produced. 3. chicken is fed grains (often GMO grains), pumped full of growth hormones and antibiotics and vaccinated 3 times in its 30 day lifespan. The purposed of this is to fatten then for market, not produce quality meat. 4. in herbal medicine is considered "hot" or inflammatory. So it isn't ideal for dogs with skin conditions, pancreatitis or any type of inflammatory conditions. If you need to feed a "bland" diet. Try my alternatives of organic chicken or turkey and boiled pumpkin. Remember these should not be fed long-term as they are not balanced and provide the dog with all its nutritional requirements. Don't forget my raw feeding ebook is also available to purchase. https://www.naturalpetsaus.com.au/shop @ Darwin, Northern Territory

12.01.2022 Yes I treat too. Meet . His nickname has stuck as he loves to roll in anything smelly. I met this 13 year old gent this week. He got hit by a car a few years ago and has a limp in his front leg. His back leg is also sore and impacting his mobility. ... We'll be seeing him regularly to help him be more comfortable in his older years. He was a perfect patient and enjoyed his treatment very much.

11.01.2022 !! I have seen too many dogs be deprived of the freedom and joy of sniffing. YES DOGS NOT BEING ALLOWED TO USE THEIR PREDOMINANT SENSE!... Being hit for trying to sniff, dragged along for a walk where no sniffing takes place. . You go out on your walk but you have to do it . You can't take in the sights. Then every time you go to take that blindfold off to take in the beauty, I you somewhere else, or worse give you a nice . ? Let me tell you the of allowing your dog to far out weigh marching them around in a straight line for a walk. - Sniffing is (great for reactive or fearful dogs) - Sniffing . - Sniffing can help and pulling on lead. - Sniffing . When they are sniffing often another dog can go by and they can cope better. It's the serotonin and dopamine working not adrenalin and cortisol. - Sniffing involves allowing the body to work smaller muscles, that are underused when we constantly run or walk our dogs beside us. - Sniffing is . It's hard work for your dog to read all that news and process it. Walking our dogs should be about not or . Going out for a slow sniff walk for 15mins and only moving 400m is better for your dog's health and than a long walk where the dog maintains only 1 tempo and can't use their nose and brain. Remember: ' .

09.01.2022 Humping is normal behaviour for dogs...NOT Dominance, that theory has been debunked for years. Just remember next time you go to hug or get a bit frisky with your partner...someone comes along and YELLS at you or HITS you...wouldn't be nice. Don't judge your animals for acting on instincts you act on too....probably more than your dog does.

08.01.2022 Does your pet have a STANKY breath? Bad breath can be an indicator of other underlying health conditions. Your pet's dental hygiene is important to helping maintain their overall health. Why? Just like ours, the canine oral bacteria are of interest to veterinary communities for understanding their roles in health and infectious diseases. If we don't maintain oral health, the microbiome will likely have less diversity and stress the microbiome which can cause a shift in the a...ntimicrobial population (enter nasty diseases and infections). This can then spread to other parts of the body or be linked to other health issues in the dog. Maintaining a good oral health for your dog, starts at home. Save this post for some at home tips to get your dogs to clean their teeth naturally. I'll be featuring some dogs who have been using different natural methods over the next few weeks so you can see first hand. Give it a try and let me know how you go. @ Darwin, Northern Territory

07.01.2022 A dog's nose knows....ALWAYS When you have a wellness consult we often offer the dogs some herbal remedies or essential oils and observe what they show interest in, interact with, taste. This is how your dog is communicating with us, what they need and what might be going on in their bodies.... By affording them OIE, they get a voice to tell us what they want. How might your dog me telling you what is going on with them. closely and what they have to say might just surprise you. shout out to @reesphotoobsessions for the awesome snap.

06.01.2022 It's not too late to grab a ticket. You will leave with so much new knowledge and skills. Plus it's in the comfort of your own home.

06.01.2022 How handsome is @winnie.rubles? Definitely a 10. I've been working with this stunner on his nutrition and his allergies that make his face swell. I know, poor guy! BUT guess what? Since starting some homeopathic remedies and changing to a raw diet........ Yep NO swollen face and all done drug free.... While Winston has loved his natural remedies and food, the biggest shout out goes to his fur parents. They took everything on board and are so diligent in taking care of his needs. We love our clients .

02.01.2022 We're big fans of well informed and educated people. Do your self a favour and learn from a Vet why we will never advocate torture devices like prongs and shock collars on animals. BE KIND! JUST BE KIND!!

01.01.2022 Not about ? I'm going to let you in on a little secret.... Before we domesticated dogs and they had to fend for themselves for food, they ' eat it out of a packet. They ate other animals. ' .... the is that kibble is a silent killer of your pets. Many of your prescription and store bought dry food contains more additives and poor quality ingredients than they do good and nutritionally viable ingredients. Many pet foods are high in starch (rice, pasta, flours, corn). These act as a binding agent to help the food stay together in pellet form. Aesthetically and for mass production purposes this is great. For nutrition this means that the majority of the ingredients have a and your pets can't digest them. They give nothing nutritionally to the animal. Pair that with the extreme heat process involved in turning ingredients into a dry food, of the same shape with a shelf life of up to 25 . It is a no brainer that your dog often goes days without eating until it becomes a matter of to crunch down on that dry, salty bowl of nothing. But all hope isn't lost. While we are aiming to give our dogs a balanced diet to ensure they receive the right amount of calcium, phosphorous and of course protein. A little bit of math, that animal nutritionists can help you with. . Start by reducing the amount of dry and swapping for something fresh and raw from your fridge: - mince - chuck steak - egg - chicken breast or wing You can gradually reduce the amount of kibble and VOILA...you'e a raw food convert. Yes it is best to get some guidance from a specialist in nutrition to make sure what you are feeding gives the dog all the vitamins and minerals they need. ...today's the day start their life to better health. If you need more help...Get in touch and we can make some food magic happen. @ Darwin, Northern Territory
