20.01.2022 Put your hand up if you still havent figured out how to create a decent routine and environment to train in at home! The truth is, youre not alone... In fact lets be honest, were fairly sure less than 30% of the population are succeeding at this right now.... And guess what thats OK But its our job to help people. And to coach...guide...motivate you legends no matter where you are. Coach Matthew Carroll had this to say: In all honesty, the first two weeks of ISO were shithouse for my exercise routine as well. I tried, I tinkered and experimented. But I wasnt enjoying myself and was yet to find my happy place, and a state of flow. But I didnt give up , I continued to tinker and train in different areas of the house and yard until I found a place that not only now works for me, but most importantly Im actually enjoying the experience. This is my set up: -Yoga mat -Set of dumbbells -iPad -Most importantly AirPods (they are a very wise investment) -And the latest addition, a set of rings. Usually I start my workout routine in my spare-room-turned-office after coaching the 6am Zoom class, and I just stretch and roll out for ten minutes while I prepare my session. Thats also where I do my @romwod after the session (I like the aircon). I also now enjoy the process of preparing my space to exercise. I know that not only am I doing something wonderful and essential for my health and fitness, but Ive successfully created a space that I know I will happily and consistently use on a daily basis. 15.01.2022 Want to see what the Natural Edge crew are up to this month? Our July programming is focusing on the building blocks needed to: Master technique and tempo ... Improve muscular endurance Increase core function We do this by programming six different workouts a week for our members to choose from based upon their goals and preferences. 3 sessions/wk involve different full body, uni-lateral hypertrophy work which not only helps to build lean muscle mass, but also creates a more resilient and robust body that looks as great as it performs. This is followed by conditioning - a higher tempo piece to get the muscles and lungs pumping, giving you a great metabolic boost and developing awesome muscular endurance. The session is completed with specific and variant core work leaving you with a well balanced, finally tuned machine The remaining 3 sessions/wk we really drill down on developing our skills and mastering new movements at the start of the session, and then incorporate these into the conditioning. Similarly we finish this up by working on our core. The big focus for all of our members at the moment is CONSISTENCY and creating good habits with their training. While we certainly understand your excitement and urgency to get back in the hood...we ask that you please be patient a little longer as we continue to work on a reopening plan and review health & safety requirements. The full framework for gyms is yet to be officially released, and we will need to meet the requirements and submit a Covidsafe plan for approval. ... Logistically there will be some changes of course, and well inform everyone as soon as possible - including the exact reopening date. In Fitness, a cheerleader is someone that generally spends more time yelling at you to do more, clapping their hands as if trying to teach a puppy a new trick, shouting woo! a lot and basically thinking its their job to destroy you in each session. And a decade ago that might have worked as business model. ... So whats a Coach? > A Coach is there to make sure you get the guidance you need to progress towards your goal. > A Coach is a full time profession. > For a Coach, the job isnt over when the session finishes - a Coach is planning and working with every client individually. > When a Coach asks how youre doing, its a loaded question. > The Coachs brain is always ticking. Its formulating what they need to do so that you can get maximum value from your time, or how to make subtle corrections to your form for optimum safety as well as progression. > A Coach is going to tell you to do LESS sometimes. 07.01.2022 What a perfect time to be re-reading this book! So important to continually remind ourselves of this There is good in everything, if only we look for it. Yet were so bad at looking. We close our eyes to the gift ... Its our preconceptions that are the problem. They tell us that things should, or need to be a certain way so when theyre not, we naturally assume that we are at a disadvantage or that wed be wasting our time to pursue an alternate course. When really its all fair game, and every situation is an opportunity for us to act The struggle against the obstacle inevitably propels the fighter to a new level of functioning. The extent of the struggle determines the extent of the growth The obstacle is an advantage, not adversity. The enemy is any perception that prevents us from seeing this. Ohhhhh can we get an AMEN?

07.01.2022 BUILDING THE BASICS Youve seen the footage of our clients mastering the challenging barbell movements. But lets not forget about the foundational groundwork and the importance we place on slowly developing those movement patterns.... Notice that everything going on in this video is done with complete CONTROL. Thats a massive focus of our training here at Natural Edge Performance. It allows for greater development in strength and helps us smooth out any weak links in the movement. Many people may see movements like these and imagine theyd be beyond them. Thats not the case! Possibly The fact is, we often fall for our own bullshit excuses. It’s been said before that the workout is the easy part. GETTING to the workout is where people often struggle. We need to get out of our own way sometimes and just start showing up! If last week you did nothing, this week start with one day a week. Be realistic, set yourself up for a win, and go from there.

02.01.2022 Time under tension This mornings class consisted of NOT racing through strength sets regardless of the instruction...but instead spending 2 whole clock-driven minutes completing each set of 8 deadlifts, 8 hang power cleans, 8 front squats and 8 push press. 5 rounds, with 1 full minute rest in between. No shortcuts. And nowhere to hide when the clock is staring you in the face and you know you have to stretch each 8 rep piece over 30 seconds each time ... Now you *could* add more weight and do this faster. But not today The challenge here actually comes with the time under tension and the *requirement* to therefore have a little less weight on the barbell. The stimulus of the programming is variant for a reason! Scaling is never more important than when working with a barbell for longer sets - good form is paramount and you will unravel pretty quick if trying to hack the movements. Well done EVERYONE for choosing appropriate load for you as individuals and then doing the work Followed up by a nice unilateral dumbbell workout with a 15min time cap...were RRREADY for the long weekend!

Get the kids involved and give these delectable, healthy delights a crack just in time for Good Friday tomorrow!! Grain-free, gluten-free, refined sugar-free, super easy to make, and absolutely YUM. Everything you put in your body is a CHOICE. Choose wisely. But that doesnt mean your taste buds have to miss out, or your enjoyment factor has to be nil BUNS: 2 Cups Almond Meal 1/2 Cup Coconut Flour + a few extra Tbsp 1/4 Cup Maple Syrup or Honey 6 Eggs 200g Butter 2 peeled & grated Granny Smith Apples 3/4 Cup Sultanas 4g nutmeg 7g cinnamon CROSSES: 30g Tapioca flour 6g Coconut Flour Water METHOD: Preheat oven to 180 Mix almond meal, coconut flour, nutmeg & cinnamon in a bowl. Add maple syrup, melted butter, eggs and mix well. Add grated apple and sultanas, mix until it forms a dough. Leave to sit while you make the crosses. If it seems too runny add 1 or 2 Tbsp more coconut flour. Combine tapioca flour and coconut flour, then add about 30 mls of the water to make a stiff paste (add extra water drop by drop as required to make a pipeable cross mixture) Blob mixture onto a lined baking tray. Pipe crosses onto the top (use a ziplock bag with the end snipped off) Bake for about 30 mins Devour slathered in butter
