Glendinning was financed by Coolgardie stor...ekeeper brothers Thomas and Ernest Tobias. Lease 190C was registered in the name of Thomas Tobias who named it Sons of Gwalia in honour of his Welsh heritage Gwalia is an old name for Wales. The following year the syndicate sold the lease to G.W. Hall for 5000 cash and a company, Sons of Gwalia Ltd, was established. Hall erected a second-hand 10-stamp battery and by June the mine employed 110 men, whose tents and corrugated iron and hessian cottages sprang up around the mine workings. Hall recouped his entire investment in the first month!

04.01.2022 MINE EXPANSION TO CREATE 300 NEW JOBS The owners of the King of the Hills gold mine in WAs northern Goldfields have revealed plans for a $226 million expansion..., which will support mining until 2038. The mine, 30 kilometres north of Leonora, has produced more than 2 million ounces of gold over the past 30 years. The expansion will include construction of a 450-person accommodation village and a new processing plant. Red 5 managing director Mark Williams says it will create hundreds of new jobs. "It will tangibly, positively impact the lives of many people here in Western Australia, Mr Williams said. Were looking at an estimated jobs creation of 450 people during construction and during steady-state mining in the order of 300." Red 5, which also operates the Darlot gold mine near Leinster, plans to borrow $165 million to bankroll the expansion. Chief corporate development officer Patrick Duffy says the rest of the costs will be covered by the companys existing cash reserves and at a gold price of $2,500 an ounce, the debt would be paid back within 25 months. "We do currently have lenders that have been short-listed and they include all the major Australian banks and brand name international lenders, he said. We would be looking to have that debt funding in place by the end of this year." Red 5
