25.01.2022 As an amateur nature photographer, it's always exciting to not only find interesting wildlife, but catch them behaving in a way that's not expected or otherwise interesting. In this photo you see a Garden Jumping Spider (Opisthoncus sp) in focus and clearly stalking the St Andrews Cross Spider (Argiope sp). Both very commonly seen in my garden, but I've never seen them interact before. The Jumping Spider was clearly sizing up the other spider for some time before launching at it, which resulted in a brief tussle, but the attack was unsuccessful, and the attacker retreated to a safe distance, no doubt licking some wounds.

25.01.2022 The highlight of my day was spotting this Angle-headed Dragon in the rainforest. It's so dark in there that even this rather well coloured specimen looked just like the vine it was clinging to.

25.01.2022 I had a close encounter with this big Lace Monitor last week while out looking for birds. It was nice enough to hang around for a photo shoot.

25.01.2022 I had a bit of a 'senior moment' (yes, I know I'm not that old.) early in the week and thought my macro lens had developed a major issue, but it turned out to be user error.. d'oh. Anyway, in the panic of thinking I would be without a macro lens, I decided to purchase a new lens, you know... just in case. I'm so happy with the results, I may just sell the old one. This is a Snail Parasite Blowfly.

24.01.2022 Red-backed Fairy-wrens are all attitude, this little guy was singing his heart out.

24.01.2022 Young male Eastern Grey Kangaroos testing their fighting skills against eachother, it's clearly all play, but still gets pretty rough.

22.01.2022 Weevil 'kin Evil...

21.01.2022 I haven't posted for a long time, but have recently been taking more bird photos, quite like how these turned out despite not being able to get close to these birds.

21.01.2022 I've been so busy with work since getting back from my outback adventure, but finally getting into putting together a short list of images for my next book. I have so many great images of these guys, such characters and very photogenic. Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater.

21.01.2022 More bugs.. this Dragonfly was very chilled, did not move at all.

21.01.2022 Nature is so wonderfully complex and bazaar at times, just love the camouflage and patterns on this Treehopper. One of the better images from a pleasant and relaxing walk with a couple friends at Ben Bennet Botanic park in Caloundra today. I should say that Andrew wasn't in the slightest bit responsible for this photo...

19.01.2022 It was a reptile kind of day today, glad to be up in the mountains where it was a few degrees cooler (less hot..) and not only had some great company in my friend Alison, but also got some great photos of a few local lizards. This little guy is a Murrays Skink, or that's what they were called until recently, I think they've had a name change..

19.01.2022 Now I just have to remember how this works, so bare with me...

18.01.2022 Hello from the Outback! It's a harsh environment out here, yet somehow so much wildlife manages to thrive. We're in the midst of a pretty bad drought, yet some animals seem to be breeding like there's plenty to go around. Anyway, it's been a great experience, my first trip this close to the centre of the big brown land we live in. Here's a quick sample of what I've been shooting while away. A rather placid Strap-snouted Brown Snake.

16.01.2022 I spent this morning wandering around the Brisbane Valley/Somerset area looking for birds with my friend Roz Bannan, we had our best luck at the old church at C...aboombah which was abuzz with a huge variety of small birds. Here's a few of my Fairy-wrens from this spot, all Superb Fairy-wrens. See more

16.01.2022 Bored with Spiders and Bugs yet? I'm not! However I have been itching to get out and look for some birds, so today I went specifically searching for this little guy, a Mangrove Honeyeater.

15.01.2022 I've been meaning to visit my friend Hans in Maleny for some time to try for some photos of the resident platypus that lives in his small lake. Today being out with another friend and looking for something different, Roz and I decided to give it a bash, and I'm glad we did as this little guy put on quite a show for us.

14.01.2022 Striated Herons can be very shy, and so I've never managed a decent photo in the past, but this guy got over his initial fear and decided to come over and hunt a few metres away.

14.01.2022 I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed, but SPRING IS HERE, WOO! Which means... more bugs, I'm afraid :P This is a cool little Weevil I found in a local nature reserve during the week.

14.01.2022 I had to go into Brisbane last week and thought it would be a great opportunity to visit Roma Street Parklands as I've been meaning to get down there for a while. Here's a few of my favourite shots from the outing.

14.01.2022 I don't know how many times I've photographed this species, a lot.. but I never get tired of trying to find a different angle or seeing those metallic colours come to life. A young Murrays Skink.

14.01.2022 It was a good morning to be out watching the sun come up at Glasshouse Mountains, no sunrise photos, but after breakfast got some nice macro shots, enjoy. :)

13.01.2022 I was asked by East Coast Images to help out with shooting a charity rodeo event on the weekend, loads of action shots, but I also snapped a few candids, this being one of my favourites. https://www.facebook.com/pages/East-Coast-Images-Sunshine-Coast/718420934912749?fref=ts

12.01.2022 First time I've had one of these in my yard, and it was a BIG one.

12.01.2022 I stopped in to have a quick look for bugs at a local nature reserve on my way home from seeing my beautiful daughter yesterday, and found some really great stuff, hope you enjoy the photos. :)

12.01.2022 These tiny birds have a great big song, really pretty too. It's a Mangrove Gerygone.

12.01.2022 Soldier crabs swarming at Toorbul beach came towards me for a change.

11.01.2022 The Christmas season is not my favourite time of year, which is partly why I have not posted for the last few weeks, but I have been out taking photos. This Grey-crowned Babbler was in my Mum's garden when I was there to celebrate my birthday with my lovely Mum, Step Father and my awesome daughter, Zoe. Hoping all my followers had a pleasant festive season, and wish you all a happy new year.

11.01.2022 Last full day of my outback adventure, heading home tomorrow. I'll have some more photos to share over the coming week or so, but for now this is a bird I could easily have got a photo of in my back yard, however the setting adds a charm to it that I could not achieve in suburbia. Little Friarbird.

11.01.2022 I don't normally remove critters from their environment to get a photo, but these little guys were being hard to get so I decided to catch one in a glass container designed for exactly this purpose and let him out on the cook top in my kitchen where he wandered around for a minute while I took a bunch of photos. He was then safely returned to the bush that I found him on. Lantana Leafhopper.

10.01.2022 Welcome Jus, hope you enjoy the page. :-)

09.01.2022 My intention is not to post only inverts, but this time of year it's hard to not. This is one from a few months back, and if you're a flickr fan, go ahead and follow me there too. :) Owlfies are so interesting and you have to love those big antennae. Hope everyone's coping well and avoiding the hysteria out there, stay safe. https://www.flickr.com//karlbob1/49077345928/in/datetaken/

09.01.2022 After a very sad occasion, my cousin's funeral, on thursday, I was geared up to leave my Mum's place and head home when I heard the unmistakable calls of Grey-crowned Babblers. I looked in the rear view mirror to see 5 of them bathing in my Mum's bird bath only a few metres from my car. I couldn't drive off without a few shots.

09.01.2022 One more from my day out around the Brisbane Valley during the week. A pair of Superb Fairy-wrens.

08.01.2022 Well, I'm back from my little break, not that I went anywhere, just had some time away from facebook, and took looooots of photos. I won't bore you with them all, far too many. I do hope you like the new profile and cover photos. Aaand I know how much everyone loves flies.. well even if you don't, they are fascinating, so here's a couple I found in my garden.

08.01.2022 Fairy-wrens are the cutest, this one is a female Variegated Fairy-wren at Sheepstation Creek reserve.

08.01.2022 A rather colourful fly in my back yard this morning, insects are so diverse, never cease to amaze.

07.01.2022 I've been a bit slack at sharing lately, but for my loyal followers, this is the kind of thing I've been working on. I know a lot of people find spiders creepy and/or frightening, but I find them fascinating. This one is a Crab Spider.

07.01.2022 Insects, like this Weevil, are not always pretty, but they sure are fascinating!

07.01.2022 I finally had some luck with frogs tonight, we decided on a last minute run up to Mt Glorious, NW of Brisbane, to look for frogs and fungi in the rainforest. The fungi was very sparse, but we found quite a few of these Great Barred Frogs willing to pose.

07.01.2022 Being the alpha male has it's price sometimes, this big male Eastern Grey Kangaroo has obviously had to prove his superiority many times over.

07.01.2022 It's definitely Arthropod season, spiders hunting, bugs mating and even a few butterflies floating about. This Argiope species (St Andrews Cross) spider was just finishing a meal.

06.01.2022 Laying down on the ground, prone, and getting as close as you can to one of these spiders can be a bit freaky, knowing how quickly they can run..

06.01.2022 Frogs are out.. ribbit 8-)

06.01.2022 Something for my followers that miss my bird photos. I'm currently on holiday in Hervey Bay, but due to some extreme back pain I've had little chance to get out shooting, these few photos were taken around the lakes at the resort.

06.01.2022 I thought I might kick things back off with a name change, and in line with the new name, here's an inverted invert... a lovely male Green Jumping Spider (Mopsus mormon) from a recent visit to Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens.

05.01.2022 I would have liked to get a bit closer to this Dragonfly, but I liked the wings.

05.01.2022 Insect life is a lot harder to find in the cooler months, but the dragonflies are still about.

04.01.2022 Hi Folks, It's been a looooong time since I hid this page and in that time I've been doing quite a lot of photography, so if you'd like to see what I've been shooting, check out my instagram or for more serious content, my flickr page here - https://www.flickr.com/photos/karlbob1974/

04.01.2022 Another highlight from today was a pair of Green Tree Snakes by lake Baroon in Maleny. We believe we may have interrupted them in the early stages of mating.. Hopefully they found some privacy out of harms way...

04.01.2022 A big helloooo to Marcus welcome aboard

03.01.2022 You got to get amongst it to get that photo sometimes, a little close for comfort...

02.01.2022 Well, my back recovered enough to put in a few more bird photo outings before I left Hervey Bay. Here's a selection of the better ones.

01.01.2022 The macro lens got a little work out in a private flower garden late this morning while I was in Maleny helping out with a photography workshop.

01.01.2022 Nature Photography is so random sometimes, you can sit and wait for something to happen and walk away frustrated, and sometimes you just point the camera and amazing things happen. The time from when I spotted this moth and it flying away was only a few seconds, and in that time I positioned myself for the shot and took focus on it, but the ant was not there until the exact moment that the shutter opened and in that same instant the moth was gone.
