25.01.2022 Supplements can be a really important part of holistic health. BUT. If I had a dollar for every person who wasn’t taking their supplements correctly I would be a rich woman. (And, that's not how I want to make money!) This is because a lot of people self prescribe and aren’t provided all the information on the back of a bottle. Not only could you be wasting your money if taking it incorrectly, but you may also be unknowingly doing harm to yourself. Here are a few supplementi...ng facts that perhaps you didn’t know. 1.If you can tolerate it, take your Zinc supplement on an empty stomach. Better absorption. 2.Do not take magnesium and antibiotics together as it will reduce antibiotics effect. 3.Take your iron and calcium supplement away from tea and coffee and also away from each other (ideally 30mins before or 2 hours after). They can both affect each other's absorption. Do you have any supplementing questions? If so, load me up. And if you want a holistic assessment or re-check of what you are taking and why, then maybe its time to see a Naturopath.

24.01.2022 9 months planning you. 9 months growing you. And now 9 months absolutely adoring you

21.01.2022 What is my preconception story? My husband is an engineer (ahem *practical). So, he wanted a good 2 years notice before we started trying. This actually was perfect though for preconception planning as it meant I had a whole lot of time. At that point I came off the IUD (mirena) so I could actually track and chart my hormones and ovulation. It took me 4 months to regulate, but can take longer. Then 6 months before trying, I did blood tests to asses my Iron, Vitamin D and thyr...oid health. I then also started with a good prenatal, gentle detox and focused on organic foods while limiting coffee and only red wine on occasion. My husband then started on something similar, but more targeted for men and sperm health (zinc and antioxidants). And this timing was over Christmas, so it was HARD to stay focused but it was worth it and because we were in it together it helped make it easier. Then the journey ends. I joke when I tell my friends that I wish it took longer. But I feel pregnant straight away. Now. I wish I could have a sliding doors moment to see whether Naturopath Kirsty or Marketing Kirsty would have fallen pregnant exactly the same way. But, I will never know. I also had a healthy and positive pregnancy and labour. Once again, I will never know if that was to do with the work I put in or not. But, let’s just say its not worth testing it out if we go for #2. I do honestly believe that my preconception work played a big role in my positive experience. I know not everyone has the luxury of time and knowledge before falling pregnant, but that is why I created my preconception workshop. I have done the hard work for you. So, if you are on the baby making bandwagon (or have an engineer for a husband). Then make sure you check out my workshop - Preconception Health: A Naturopaths Perspective. The link is in my bio. Just $35 for 1 hour of uninterruptedME talking about how to prepare yourself for pregnancy. And for those of you who feel you have a more complex health story then I also suggest bookingin to see me so I can work with you 1:1 Photo bythe amazing @306.photography

17.01.2022 It’s taken me almost 9 months, but I have finally created my Preconception workshop! Preconception was something I only became aware of while studying Naturopathy and then I went even further with research as I begun planning my own pregnancy. I started to become really passionate about preconception when I discovered that no one was even mentioning it. Not even my doctor!? .... I want to be able to help women (and men) understand their hormones so that they can get control of them. I want to help people learn how to nourish their bodies so that they produce the healthiest possible egg and sperm, so that they can create the healthiest baby. It might take 6 months (more on timing in future posts), but it is so worth it. . So, if you are thinking about having a baby, whether it is your first, second or third. Whether you plan on having a baby soon or just one day in the future. Or maybe you are just curious about understanding your hormones to improve your overall wellbeing. Then this workshop is for you. I am running it through Udemy, so just follow the link in my bio under Preconception Workshop (see my lin.ktree ). . . . #preconception #femalehealth #hormones #femalehormones #pregnancy #healthyliving #naturopath #menshealth #createhealth #baby #planningpregnancy #naturopathy #workshop #healtheducation #health #wellbeing #healthyhappylife #epigenetics #womenshealth

12.01.2022 Folate is crucial for health and needed for all cell division. This is found naturally in foods such as leafy greens, asparagus and brocolli. To retain the folate its best to have raw or blanched and not overcook or boil the vegetables. Folic acid is a synthetic source of folate which does not exist in nature. About 50% of people struggle to metabolise this synthetic form into folate. This is particularly important in women looking to fall pregnant. When looking at your suppl...ements the best forms are: Folinic acid, Levomefolate Calcium and folate. Now that we have better forms of supplemental folate you don’t need to take one with folic acid- so make sure you have a look before you buy and use. And you need to be taking folate 1 month before pregnancy! Want to know more about the role of folate in preconception and how to supplement? Join me in my workshop : 'Preconception Health. A Naturopaths Perspective'. Live online workshop for: Kyneton (and surrounds) on September 21 at Kyneton Community House. Castlemaine (and surrounds) on October 5 at @castlemainecommunity Or online through my bio and website.

10.01.2022 Weekends are the perfect time to slow down and explore. For me getting out for a good walk with the whole family is always a highlight. And this is a beautiful wild orchid that only grow at this time of year in the bush. They are so gorgeous to see!

08.01.2022 Warning: Small Rant Ahead. Something I am really passionate about is PREVENTION. Unfortunately, though we live in a society where we pay to see doctors when we are sick. And, so what this does is create is an industry that benefits from sick people. Do you know that in ancient china wealthy families had a doctor that they paid only when they were healthy. As soon as they got sick they stopped paying. Now, that sounds more like how it should be. The idea of prevention is jus...t that. Money should be spent on informing and educating the public about preventative health and empowering them with the tools to do just that. But, this is not the reality. Unfortunately, most doctors are not trained in preventative health (which includes nutrition, blood test interpretation and holistic assessments). And this is where preconception comes in. This is the ULTIMATE IN PREVENTION. By taking the time and some simple steps before falling pregnant you can help set yourself up for a healthy pregnancy, healthy labour and a healthy baby, who has a healthy start to life. Okay rant over. If you want to know more about prevention and preconception please book in to see me or check out my Preconception workshop.

08.01.2022 FACT: Pill bleeds are NOT periods. Hormonal Birth Control works by suppressing ovulation and therefore suppressing our natural hormones. When I first found out this, I was shocked. The bleed you get when on the pill is a withdrawal bleed from the drug. There was actually no medical reason for doing this, it was just done to make women feel ‘normal’.... Often patients will say to me that their periods stopped after coming off the pill, but actually its because you haven’t had a normal period since being on the pill. You actually need restart the whole hormonal cascade and this can take time... Learn this and more in my latest workshop and get informed about your hormones and health. Find the link in my bio

06.01.2022 Although time feels like it is standing still right now. When I look back at this photo it reminds me how quickly time actually does pass and to try to cherish those sweet moments as much as possible.

03.01.2022 Unfortunately, choline is absent in many prenatal formulas and probably isn’t talked about much to women considering conceiving or pregnant. BUT, research has found that maternal choline supplementation during pregnancy benefited the offsprings cognitive function and even their response to stress. In fact. A review in the Journal of Pediatrics concluded that ‘Choline in the diet of the pregnant mother and infant is directly related to permanent changes in brain function. W...ithout enough choline during the critical time of brain growth and development, intelligence, memory and possibly mood regulation will be damaged permanently. We may not be able to measure the exact impact on IQ or other brain functions, but we do know enough at this point to start preaching the choline message’. So. If you only take one thing from my posts PLEASE let it be that you make sure you are supplementing with #Choline. And Ill talk more about Choline in the diet next week and why supplementing is important.

02.01.2022 Ovulation is one of the most energy intense processes that happens in our bodies. In fact a female follicle (egg) is the quickest growing cell we have in our body! Across the first 14 days of your menstrual cycle the follicle grows from 2mm up to 25mm before then shrinking back to 2mm. This is why we need adequate nutrients to support such rapid growth. These nutrients will ensure the healthiest egg and therefore the healthiest start to your baby’s life.... Want to know more? Join me in my preconception workshop and take charge of your health, for you and your babies future health. Available online for just $35. Link in my bio.
