23.01.2022 Doesn't it make you feel very privileged when a frog that is classified as endangered makes your place its home. This is a Great Barred Frog (Mixophyes fasciolatus) and it's loud calls at night are like a bedtime melody. #frogs #frogsofinstagram #australianfrogs #mixophyes #endangeredfrogs #amphibians #amphibiansofinstagram #nikonaustralia #nikon_photography #macro #macrophotography #abcopen #australiangeographic #mynikonlife #myclarencevalley #ausgeo

08.01.2022 This little frog is using our rain gauge as a swimming pool. Did it need a swim or was it checking how much rain we are having at James Creek? #greenfrog #australianfrogs #amphibian #greentreefrog #myclarencevalley #rainwater gauge #swimmingpool #abcmyphoto #abcopen #clarencevalley #cyclonedebbie #nikon_photography #mynikonlife #macrophotography #macro #nikonmacro #ausgeo
08.01.2022 As well as the article below, I hope you all will take a minute to read this, written by our local firefighter volunteers Barbie Chris from Ashby Heights, a vil...lage just 25min. from Yamba that got hit hard by the Myall Ck Rd fire that is still not out (we still have daily flare-ups on and below the hill, and many have lost big sheds full of gear, caravans, vehicles, precious gardens, pets and watertanks, private power poles and other infrastructure, and one house was lost). Their own home also had a fire ball come over it, but it was spared by the roof sprinklers that had soaked the home and shed. Chris got overrun by fires twice and had some hairy moments when getting trapped, which led him to write the following to correct Scott Morrison’s suggestion that this is where they want to be in the lead up to Christmas: The following is NOT the opinions of the RFS rather our feelings and thoughts about recent events. Like the woman who posted about her husband being a RFS volunteer and the challenges he faces daily in the fire season (see below for a link), We, like she, do NOT want to be fighting fires SCOMO (why would you call yourself that?). We want to be home sipping on a beer feeling safe and secure in our own home. We do it because we care about our communitieswe do it because someone has to. We have met so many remarkable selfless crews over the last several weeks working 10/12 hour days with minimal breaks and pretty basic food. Unlike most politicians there was no ego involved. Just wonderful people getting on with a very difficult and dangerous job. SCOMO: we want up to date fire fighting gear: Example: we were defending a local home alongside 2 Fire and Rescue crews. They had the latest in uniforms and full face masks with oxygenwe had 1 uniform allocated and our famous P2 maskssame firesame job. SCOMO: we don’t care about having a budget surpluswe care that the RFS is fully resourced and that our national parks are properly managed! How about, as a starting point, talking to the First Nations peoplehow about listening to the climate scientisthow about not flicking the responsibility to state and local governmentsthis needs national leadership not more BS and spin. We doubt that there are many people in Australia who wishes we had a larger surplus rather than a safe environment and a future for our childrenshould we have a vote on that?? SCOMO: we are all really tiredmore than 3 weeks of being surrounded by firethe routine of getting up at 6am and checking out the fire groundsof our families and friends constantly worrying about usthe uncertainty of where the fires will come from nexttired of looking at our blackened landscapebut more than anything we are tired of politicians platitudes and lack of action.SCOMOdo something! Feel free to share this.
