21.01.2022 Bone broth and stocks Benefits - Contains collagen rich gelatin and amino acids. Dry dog food can be lacking due to the high heat process when made, so adding to dry food can be beneficial while giving additional dietary moisture ... -Best source of glycine. Which can assist arthritic dogs -Contains potassium and sodium which can help with dehydration -Adding veggies will increase mineral content -Can help elderly, sick, picky or dogs with suppressed appetite by making food more palatable and easy to digest - Can be made with different protein source great if your dog has specific protein sensitivity. Cautions - High in histamines if your dog's prone to allergies or inflammation. feed with caution and watch for allergy symptoms as it can overload histamine levels. Using 100% hydrolyzed gelatin powder may be a good alternative. - Fish broth will produce higher histamine - May not be suitable for dogs with liver disease as it can add more strain to the liver. Always consult a nutritionist first. - Avoid using neck bones for dogs with thyroid issues How to prepare -Can be made in a slow cooker (cooked for 24-48hrs), pressure cooker or instapot ( cooked for 2-8hrs) for lower histamine levels avoid slow cooker as longer cook time increases histamine. -Choose a bone source. Joint bones will offer more gelatin ( such as feet and neck) -Add vegetables (choose the rainbow for variety in nutrients) e.g carrot, pumpkin, celery, parsnip etc - Fill pot with water to cover bones and vegetables -Optional. some may add vinegar but hasn't necessarily been proven to leach more minerals from bone -Cook for allocated time above -Once cooked remove left over bone and refrigerate overnight. - Should be gelatinous next day -Can be frozen in portions . . #bonebroth #organic #healthylifestyle #healthyfood #bonebrothheals #dogs #dogsofinstagram #dogstagram #puppies #love #doglover #dogoftheday #instadog #petsofinstagram #cats #catsofinstagr

Correct cooking methods below will help reduce arsenic levels while still retaining nutrients. How to prepare: Three things you need to consider when preparing rice for pets. 1. Reducing arsenic levels. 2. Increasing the digestabilty ideal for your dog's digestive system. 3. Keeping as much nutrients as possible. How to cook- - Rinse rice thoroughly in water changing the water three times. Set aside - Bring 4 cups of water (to every one cup of rice) to the boil - Carefully add your rice and par boil rice, on a low simmer for 5min - drain rice, clean pot and add fresh water (same amount of cups per rice originally used) - Bring to the boil then simmer on a low heat until the grain becomes mushy (more water may need to be added) - Rice should be cooked twice as long as you would for humans -Ideally rice should not be kept once cooked, specially for animals with health issues.
