14.02.2022 How cool. The grass tree that I planted 11 years ago when I moved the clinic to my home studio has now flowered magnificently. I can't recall seeing such a robust plant and flowering spike in all my wanderings in Nature. ... I think it likes it here.... and so do I!

29.01.2022 It's great to hear of the healing effects of spending time in nature. Here is a wonderful article that highlights the benefits and some of the more recent research. https://www.abc.net.au//my-brain-on-nature-heali/12266522

23.01.2022 After drought and fire, Nature bounces back. Just add water!

21.01.2022 A full house in Brisbane for last weekends seminar on The Nature of Muscles Joints and Pain.. A lovely group of enthusiastic praccies who really enjoyed the two days.

21.01.2022 Getting Sick is Depressing Literally! When a person has an acute infection they often feel miserable and anti-social. Known as sickness behaviour, and bearing a striking similarity to clinical depression, these symptoms are not caused directly by the infection, but by the inflammatory response it induces. ... This response concentrates the bodys energy on healing, rather than dissipating it through work, social interaction, or reproduction (not tonight honey). Furthermore, it essentially quarantines the infected and potentially infectious individual from the rest of society, as opposed to "Soldiering on with Codral. (Not a good idea) What wasnt understood until recently was the link between systemic or chronic inflammation like sort joints or and irritable bowel and depression. Any inflammation from the gut or via autoimmunity, as well as infection can induce this neurodepressive response. in other words, if you are inflamed, you may not feel very happy or contented. Addressing inflammation by determining its source applying appropriate protocols and having a good old detox can make a world of difference to how you feel.

21.01.2022 To all my great clients and friends. May you all enjoy the fun and joy of Christmas holidays, and good health for 2019.

20.01.2022 Would you like to know more about discovering yourself by spending time in Nature? Finding ourselves, and getting to know who we are "warts and all" is probably one of the primary things we need to do in life on our way to full adult hood, and Nature has always provided a wonderful place to retreat but also embark on a journey to the wild places in our heart and soul. Places once discovered that can illuminate our direction in life and the choices we need to make. Many have... said they have found peace, clarity, relaxation, improved health and relief from anxiety and depression by spending time developing a relationship with Nature. If you have heard about Find Yourself in Nature or simply want to know more about how Nature can help you, then come along to a talk Im giving at the Relaxation Centre on Monday, 28 November from 7.00 9.00 PM. You will need to book by phoning the relaxation centre on 3856 3733, and they are asking $20 for the night. The relaxation centre is located at 15 South Pine Road, Alderley. Id love to see you there.

18.01.2022 Hi Everyone. He just wanted to let you know that Im back on deck and Nature Therapies books are open for 2016. Ive just got back from a few weeks in Japan skiing with some of my family, energy levels are high and Im looking forward to helping you all become healthier, happier and more contented during this year.... The end of January when the kids go back to school is a great time to reset the compass and get serious about those new years resolutions. It is also a great time to do a detox (especially if you have never done one) and to remove the residues from our festive few months. I have already started mine :-) There are some good things happening this year, and I have plans to gain more skills on the coaching front in regard to the Multiple Brain Integration Technique, which I find works brilliantly. I have also been invited to join a think tank with some of Australia and New Zealands older and more experienced sports and musculo-skeletal therapists to share what we have learned during our career that currently sits outside of scientific studies and proof, but highlights techniques we know that work well. I am sure there will be some exciting new findings coming from these few days. Wishing you all the best for the new year and all that it holds, and I look forward to seeing you soon.

17.01.2022 This page is not the place for politics but you probably should know this! The Labor Party has recently announced it will scrap taxpayer-funded private health insurance rebates on natural therapies if elected. At least the Labor Party have come clean and made this announcement before the election which gives everyone who supports the retention of taxpayer-funded private health insurance the opportunity to cast their vote at the ballot box. Click on the link below link for mo...re information on removal of taxpayer-funded rebates by the Labor Party: http://www.billshorten.com.au/labor_s_plan_for_budget_repai Our industry is disappointed that the Labor Party has again shown its total lack of understanding and support for the health system and through a blinkered approach believes removal of funding for health fund rebates for natural therapies will fix the health system and budget problems. Nothing could be further from the truth, and removal of funding for rebates for natural therapies will significantly add to the issues and pressures the health system and budget faces.

16.01.2022 Welcome aboard Cherrie.

14.01.2022 They used to use canaries to warn of dangerous gases in the mines years ago and I suspect our chooks may be able to do a similar thing. Recently my wife made some sandwiches for a function. We dont normally have bread in our household and our chooks are fed the scraps from what we eat, which is generally fairly healthy. However, I gave them a plastic bag full of bread crusts the next day, and when I went to feed them the following morning they were all just standing there q...uite ill and lethargic. Not their normal bustling to push each other out of the way for the approaching feed. Added to that over the next few days their droppings were quite watery and unhealthy, indicating an inflammed gut, and of course they went off the lay. There are plenty of studies now that show gluten inflames the human gut and also our brain. However it may be just all the other chemicals and preservatives in bread that made our chooks sick. I wonder what bread really does to us.? A good way to find out is to cut bread out of your diet for a few weeks and see how you feel. Many of my patients have done that and never go back to eating bread again stating good improvements in bowel function, more energy, less brain fog and much less bloating in the tummy. The crusts will go in the compost next time but Ill have to check to see how the worms fare?

13.01.2022 On this Wednesday, 15 November I will be giving a talk at the Relaxation Centre at Alderley on Finding Yourself in Nature. It runs from 7 to 9 PM and is a great introductory to the benefits of reconnecting to Nature and finding peace in clarity in that relationship. Love to see you there.

11.01.2022 A great little resource that makes make finding a gluten-free feed when you go out a whole lot easier. Thanks for the tip Rosie.

11.01.2022 Just a reminder about the presentation that I am giving at the Relaxation Centre on Monday night about reconnecting to Nature and the benefits that that can bring. The details are in the post below. Love to see you there.

09.01.2022 A cracker quote! If diet is incorrect, medicine is of no use. If diet is right then medicine is of no need Ayurvedic wisdom

09.01.2022 Heres a little observation I can share after many years of practicing holistic medicine, and considering the roles of the mind, body and Nature in our health. If you think of yourself as healthy, or believe that you can be healthy, then youre much more likely to do things that are conducive to creating that health, and take positive action with anything that gets in the way, transforming it into wellness. Conversely if you think of yourself as sick or broken or not going to... get better, then you have a much higher chance of staying right where you are or getting worse. The mind and our ability to direct it towards beneficial outcomes provides our greatest opportunity for optimal health. Our central nervous system (including our heart brains nervous complex) is the initiator of almost every physiological process in our body. Our brain is the central processing unit, and our mind is the operating system. In essence "whats on our mind" forms the experience we have as a human being. If we play out scenarios of fear, resentment or despair then our body enters into, and can even stay in fight or flight mode, causing stress and the physical disease that results. At the other end of the spectrum the more we engage our mind in thoughts and feelings of love, gratitude and harmony the more our body relaxes into an aspect of our nervous system that heals and repairs us. Quite the paradox isnt it? But its also nice to realise that we can think our way to wellness and health. Imagine if your next prescription was not a supplement or pill, but an attitude adjustment, embracing the power of your mind, starting today, one healthy positive choice at a time.

08.01.2022 Definitely my idea of a good website :-) I wish all our web interfaces where as peaceful as this.

08.01.2022 No doubt a wise observation of the Buddha. And of course there is the complimentary truth, that without a clear and strong mind it is difficult to make healthy choices for our body. The overarching truth is that they are both inseparable parts of the one entity and deserve equal attention.

08.01.2022 Sometimes we can find beauty in the most mundane of things.....if we look close enough!

07.01.2022 Welcome aboard John.

07.01.2022 Okay, heres a bit of fun. With the link between the gut and the brain now well established by mainstream neuroscience and the acknowledgement by cutting-edge scientists that our gut microbiome (the particular strains of bacteria that are living in our gut) have an influence on our mental health and well-being. How long will it be before they are bottling specific strains of probiotics to affect our mood and make us happy? ... The same symptomatic approach as prescribing antidepressants but a whole lot nicer on the body. And.....how much longer again will it be before they are recommending a natural diet for the gut to grow the right bacteria, meditation and taking control of your mind to ameliorate stress and good old exercise to as the treatment of choice to feel good? :-)

06.01.2022 After drought and fire, Nature bounces back. Just add water!

06.01.2022 Many of you are aware of the 6 second breathing cycle that I use to help calm excess sympathetic nervous system stress. Here are some more findings on breath from the exciting field of neuroscience I recon it wont be long before they unlock the neurological secrets of yoga breathing. They of course wont be the first!

06.01.2022 Welcome to that whole other level of people who really run fast! Check these splits in the Nike Challenge to run the first sub 2hr marathon. Amazing!

05.01.2022 Gingko biloba can slow cognitive decline: study Great to see science weighing in on beginning to understand how natural therapies have worked for generations. "People with declining cognitive function could stabilise or slow the decline with gingko biloba extract once a day according to the latest systematic review and meta-analysis of gingko biloba for cognitive impairment and dementia.... The review, published in the Journal of Alzheimers Disease, shows gingko biloba extract at 240 mg/day over 22-26 weeks showed benefit to cognition, function, behaviour and global change of patients with dementia and cognitive impairment. J Alzheimers Dis 2015 43: 589-603 DOI: 10.3233/JAD-140837"

05.01.2022 To all my great clients and friends. May you all enjoy the fun and joy of Christmas holidays, and good health for 2019.

05.01.2022 I wonder if there is a course I can do for this?

05.01.2022 Great to see modern (young) science beginning to understand how our old therapies work.

05.01.2022 If you are interested in health (good health as opposed to poor health!) Then there is a very important underlying principle that is valuable to understand. As a society, we have generally made the assumption, that the authorities are there to administer and look after us, however, in some cases and particularly in regards to our health this may not be the case. There are many, many examples where this is not true but Ill just choose one to illustrate the point. When you tak...Continue reading

05.01.2022 Wishing everyone a really excellent Christmas, fun times with family and friends and the best of health for 2018. Thanks for the opportunity to help improve your health this year, it has been an honour.

04.01.2022 Its being chucked into curries, smoothies, muffins and even rubbed on skin. But why is coconut taking the nutritional world by storm? And why should you use it? Lets take a look 6 Reasons to Use Coconut Oil Coconut Oil Can Be Used in High Heat... Many cooks are swapping other oils for coconut oil in cooking. It could be because coconut oil is a medium-chain saturated fatty acid, and so it has a higher smoking temperature than other monounsaturated and polyunsaturated oils. So if youre making a stir fry or another dish that requires a high heat, reach for the coconut oil. Coconut Oil Can Curb Sugar Cravings If youve been trying to ditch the sweet stuff, coconut oil may just help you stay on track. Advocates say a teaspoon of the oil may be all you need to ward off an afternoon sugar craving. Why? Apparently coconut oil is a good fat that keeps you fuller for longer, especially compared to one-hit-wonder sugary foods. Coconut Oil is Good for the Gut Have a bad tummy? Beat bloating and a sluggish gut with coconut oil. Studies show its able to treat a range of digestive disorders and stomach bugs. This is because the fatty acids found in the oil are anti-microbial, so they soothe bacteria, parasites, candida and other nasties. Coconut Oil Protects Against Diabetes Research out of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research has found that coconut oil may help protect against insulin resistance. In doing so, it may reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Apparently this is because the luscious oil contains MCFA fats, which are absorbed into our cells and converted into energy. This means less fat is absorbed and insulin sensitivity is improved.

04.01.2022 If you have ever thought that some particular habit, posture or thought that you have is impossible to shift, then this excellent Time magazine article on how the brain rewires itself should give you great hope. Its information that the ancient wisdom has known for a long long time, but now science weighs in which the mechanics of how it actually works. As the caption says, this hope is even for us older folk :-)... http://www.time.com//magazi/article/0,9171,1580438,00.html

01.01.2022 Thank goodness its gluten free! You have to wonder about some of the obtuse marketing presented to us and their perception of what they think will impress us. Hopefully its 97% fat free and has no dairy as well
