20.01.2022 Armed in striking black and orange colours, the baby Orchid Mantis is not one to be reckoned with. As voracious hunters, they strike at any small insects that cross their path. Yet as they mature into adulthood, they easily become one of the most beautiful and elegant creatures in the world. Commonly found throughout Southeast Asia, the Orchid Mantis mimics the beautiful orchid flower coloured in bright pink and white with legs resembling the delicate, rounded petals. 1 Sebastian Janicki 2 Pixels of Nature, Alamy Stock Photo

09.01.2022 99% of Natural Temperate Grasslands have disappeared since European Settlement. In Canberra, less than 30% of this habitat is found in conservation areas (reser...ves or national parks). This makes the recent protection of the Franklin Grasslands a big deal! To have your say on how this Canberra Nature Park is managed and used in the future, go to https://bit.ly/2QM7d7I to fill out the survey, or attend the open day this Sunday. You can learn more about Canberra's grasslands, and what we recommend, at our new State of the Environment site: https://actsoe.com.au/report/ by Mark Jekabsons

07.01.2022 In a constant search of blossom, these rare Regent Honeyeaters are often found in the woodlands of south-eastern Australia stretching from Melbourne to Brisbane. Yet the beautiful species has been critically endangered in recent years and their numbers continue to decline. As part of a captive-breeding program to save the species, 20 Regent Honeyeaters were recently released in the Hunter Valley just two months ago. After weeks of very little sightings, the birds were spotted last week, by one leading conservationist, having joined up with a wild flock; fantastic news. As a vulnerable native species, these sightings provide hope for the future of Regent Honeyeaters. Bronwyn Ellis via ABC

WWF Australia is aiming to highlight the plight of Australia’s threatened native species and urge the government for stronger federal nature laws to protect our beautiful wildlife.
