24.01.2022 A bird’s eye view of the #gymealily (Doryanthes excelsa) captured on my phone in the garden of the Australian Museum today. Reached out as far as I could through the railing of the elevated walkway so that I could inspect this fabulous flower in a way I have always longed to, but without having to climb a ladder or a tree! Enjoyed seeing this year’s NPOTY at the museum as well.

Scribbly gum is a name given to a variety of different Australian Eucalyptus trees which play host to the larvae of scribbly gum moths which leave distinctive scribbly burrowing patterns on the bark. #naturephotography #botanicalart #eucalyptus #scribblygum

07.01.2022 Cycads are ancient seed plants dating back over 200 million years. In the Jurassic Period cycad-like plants dominated world vegetation, which is why this era is sometimes referred to as ‘The Age of Cycads’. This one in my garden had all it’s fronds seared off by last summer’s heat, but after building up it’s energy again has decided to shoot out some new ones and have another crack at this summer....
