17.01.2022 She's stranded in the middle of a cargo ship jam... The situation in the Suez Canal where a container ship has been blocking trade for a week has again highlighted the unacceptable risk of live export. 200,000 animals across 18 live export ships have been caught up in the chaos, most of them from Romania where a media storm has erupted and political pressure to end the trade is at an all-time high. The Animals Australia - Animals International team has been working day and ni...ght to give a voice to these animals and have fronted dozens of media stories highlighting the cruelty and risks of the live export trade. Even as the 'traffic' began to flow again through the Suez overnight, ships carrying goods were prioritised over animals whose welfare is only further compromised by every day of delay. We're working every angle possible to ensure these animals are not forgotten. This incident comes at a time that live animal export out of Europe is facing immense scrutiny the result of years of our global investigations, and those of our colleagues within Europe. The European Parliament is undertaking an Inquiry into the future of the live export trade and in Romania, Europe's biggest exporting nation, opposition to the industry is growing rapidly. And now the global spotlight is on the industry once again, a stark reminder of just how important our work to end live export is. When situations like this arise, we know there is often little we can do to help the animals involved. But with your support, and that of caring people around the world, what we can do is ensure that the unacceptable risks of this trade are highlighted internationally to add further political support to our call to end live export for good. You can apply pressure at this critical time by sending an urgent email to the Romanian Prime Minister Florin Cîu at [email protected], asking him to end the trade. [You'll note that ordinarily we provide a template letter to make it as efficient as possible for you to take action for animals. But in this case, your message will carry the greatest weight if you write it yourself. It doesn't need to be long just a message to relay your concern about this latest incident and that live export should end.] Thank you as always for your support and ensuring we can always give a voice to the victims of this callous trade. For the animals, Lyn White AM Investigations Director https://animalsaustralia.org/

12.01.2022 "A garden feeds more than the table, it feeds the soul!" Who can resist SUN-DRIED TOMATOES? Plant your Tomatoes and you have a delicious vegetable patch. Pick t...hem and dehydrate them and create the most scrumptious dish that few can resist! From GARDEN to PLATE! DEHYDRATOR (approximately 8 hours): Place the tomatoes, cut side up, directly onto the dehydrator trays. Set dehydrator temperature to about 60C (140F). After 4 or 5 hours, turn the tomatoes over and press flat with your hand or a spatula. After a few hours, turn the tomatoes again and flatten gently. Continue drying until done. They are done when they are very dry, but still pliable. Texture is about that of a dried apricot. If dried too long, they become tough and leathery. If not dried long enough, they will mould and mildew, unless packed in oil. So watch them carefully while they dry. Try to remove them on an individual basis, before they become tough. #excaliburdehydratorsaustralia #excaliburdehydrators #excaliburdehydrator #Excalibur #dehydrator #sustainableliving #driedfoods #healthylifestyle #driedsnacks #backpacking #preparedness #homesteading #diyfood #preservation #foodpreservation #healthyliving #veganfood #plantbased #vegetarian #healthylifestyle #sustainability

09.01.2022 Our World is Facing a Population Bust More education for women means fewer kids. In his last book, "Billions and Billions," published in 1997, Carl Sagan wrote: There is a well-documented worldwide correlation between poverty and high birthrates exponential population growth slows down or stops when grinding poverty disappears. This is called demographic transition. More recently, John Ibbitson and Darrell Bricker wrote in their book, "Empty Planet":... The great defining event of the twenty-first century one of the great defining events in human history will occur in three decades, give or take when the global population starts to decline. Once that decline begins, it will never end. We do not face the challenge of a population bomb but of a population bust a relentless, generation-after-generation culling of the human herd. Nothing like this has ever happened before. John Ibbitson sums it all up in his conclusion, which will also be ours: We’ve never lived in a world where the human population steadily and deliberately drops every year. There will be challenges and opportunities we haven’t even imagined yet. A decreasing population isn’t a good thing or a bad thing. But it is a very big thing. We need to prepare. 04.01.2022 Why everyone should care about Australia’s flying foxes. Flying foxes are not only remarkable animals they're vital to our environment. Without them, entire ecosystems could collapse. These native animals are the only species that pollinate trees at night when most Australian trees need to be pollinated. So they are responsible for helping to regenerate our forests and keep ecosystems healthy. They are a migratory and nomadic 'keystone' species; meaning a species that man...y other species of plants and animals rely upon for their survival and well-being. Flying foxes, like bees, help drive biodiversity, and faced with the threat of climate change, land clearing, and other human-caused ecological pressures, it has never been more vital to protect them. Flying foxes have never been more at risk than they are now between extreme heat waves, bushfires and habitat destruction, entire populations of this 'keystone species' are plummeting. And yet, could the biggest threat to these unique animals be public perception? https://animalsaustralia.org/fe/why-bats-need-your-love.php

04.01.2022 The Australian government should help fight the battle against this billion dollar US giant - the gov supposedly want and need Made in Australia products!! This is the type of practise that happens far too often - the smaller companies are annihilated by corporate giants. That is WRONG!! http://chng.it/xWmSWwCLDH

01.01.2022 The Conversation’s special project Flora, Fauna, Fire launched this week. The interactive, which tracks the recovery of Australia’s native plants and animals after last summer’s bushfire tragedy, was months in the making and involved scores of scientists lending their valuable expertise. It’s well worth a weekend read. Learn of the scientists coaxing nature back to life. See satellite maps showing how the land has sprouted since the fires, and explore the animal, plant and i...nvertebrate species now at greatest risk of extinction. There’s certainly lots to be worried about when we read about the world these days. But it’s encouraging to know that after such a catastrophic bushfire season, our wild places are showing signs of new life. Hope really does spring eternal. https://bushfires2020.netlify.app/#Intro
