25.01.2022 Rebel Botanists taking to the streets https://www.theguardian.com//not-just-weeds-how-rebel-bota

25.01.2022 Can't wait for this session - always deeply appreciate the opportunity to learn more about Kaurna language, heritage and culture.

25.01.2022 A big hello to all ~ and a warm welcome to those who've recently started following on Instagram or Facebook! Things have been quiet on the NSC social media but super busy behind the scenes, particularly with the arrival of unwelcome old mate, COVID-19. It's been a time of change, uncertainty and pressure all round. I've had my two wild ones at home full time for a month now. Numerous work doors in schools and the community have closed, including having to... indefinitely postpone the Living Smart sustainability course we were halfway through facilitating at Hove. Other doors have opened though: its a privilege to still have work and to help two clients rapidly pivot to continue their critical work for the SA community during these times. To help with the social distancing transition, I've been trying to prioritise exercise and time in nature for mental health and wellbeing. The veggie garden is finally coming together, we're taking time out in nearby national parks, and I've been sweating out some of the stress with short coastal runs. It's a rollercoaster and there's good days and bad. I think we're slowly starting to find our feet in a new rhythm... How are things in your world? I hope you're staying well and holding up ok? 24.01.2022 I can’t wait to return to Christie Walk on Wednesday for my ‘how to build nature into your everyday workshop’. Have you visited before? It’s a small setting of 27 homes in the heart of Adelaide, designed to showcase a model for liveable, affordable and environmentally sensitive urban communities. Simon, one of the residents and chair of Urban Ecology Australia, will be supporting my workshop and has kindly offered an option to take people to the roof top garden and urban bee... hives after the session. If you’d like to join us for the evening, you can book now here >> https://www.naturefestival.org.au//how-to-build-nature-int. Come talk nature and be inspired by our visionary location! (Independent tours of Christie Walk can also be booked - visit urban ecology.org.au) ___ ‘How to build nature into your everyday’ is part of @naturefestivalsa and is supported by @GreenAdelaide and @UrbanEcologyAustralia All images by Claire Lock @naturestreetcreative

22.01.2022 As we face another hazardous day in SA and State of Emergencies interstate, here are a few practical ways to support fellow Australians and our fauna (feel free to add further options in the comments). Thank you again to our firies, emergency services personnel and the many people working tirelessly to manage these unprecedented conditions and circumstances

22.01.2022 There are many heartening fundraising efforts and community action in the face of our Australian bushfire crisis. I am feeling a deep sorrow for the loss of animals, wildlife and wilderness, on top of the humanitarian aspects of this crisis. Currently my donations are going to South Australian Veterinary Emergency Management, a Tier 2 Response and Recovery agency in SA whose mission is to retrieve, assess, triage, shelter and treat animals of all species in an emergency incident. www.savem.org.au

21.01.2022 Something I've been thinking a lot about before and during COVID-19 is our heavy reliance on modern food systems. I've always wanted to set up a proper food garden and improve this area of sustainable living in my own life. This Q&A piece with Costa hits the mark for me. One positive in all of this is my food garden dreams are well underway and we have had so much more time in the garden together as a family. I am consciously choosing gardening and nature for managing mental health during these times and loving seeing my seeds and plants grow. Also, a shout-out to those Living Smarties / co-facilitators on my previous courses, I have been reflecting on the knowledge shared, time spent together and simple ways of living these past weeks. The gifts of parnsip and lettuce seeds have been a great source of joy to plant in my garden xx

20.01.2022 Something for the diaries: Nature Play SA and City of Holdfast Bay are launching a new nature connection resource at Somerton Beach on Sun 15 March (I've had a sneak-peak of 'Down by the Sea' and can't wait to grab a copy). 19.01.2022 We have also put trays of water in our front and back yards. Position some rocks or sticks to allow any small animals or insects that fall to have a way to get out, or hold onto something, if they need.

19.01.2022 Excited to hear about this new initiative at our Living Smart course at Hove last week. Are you in the trial zone, or would you opt in for weekly FOGO (green) bins if you had the option?

19.01.2022 "The children wanted to spread the message to other school children as to how they too could make a difference in their own small way" I love this - recognising children's voices and empowering them to spread their message through collaboration, art, and digital communications.
