25.01.2022 This week the children asked for water play and they enjoyed making "cakes" and "soup" using mud and bark from the garden. The whole group were busy in the mud patch preparing a meal when I heard the cry "Dinner's ready!!" Then some delicious "soups" "cakes" and "salad" were served! Yum, yum!

25.01.2022 I can't believe how much our garden has grown in the last few weeks! The weeds have been growing too, so the children have been helping me pull them up and put them in our compost heap. Our grass plant has 2 majestic flowers at the moment, which the children are calling "Mummy Stegasaurus" and "Baby Stegasaurus." Sometimes the mummy and baby stegasaurus start "chasing" people, so there has been a lot of running away and hiding out in the garden. There was also time for some water play this week and cooking a lemon and lime cake. Apparently this was the "best day ever!"

22.01.2022 This week we finished our invitations to the Winter Festival and started making our lanterns for the parade. The children are very excited about the lantern parade and we have started learning our festival songs as well. "Through the darkness we shall go, With our lanterns all aglow, Hearts grow warm our way grows bright,... As we journey in the night." Author unknown. See more

22.01.2022 This week we continued to decorate the bird's nest which had fallen out of a nearby tree. The children helped collect leaves to make the nest soft and were all thrilled to have a turn cutting wool with the scissors so we could tie it on. The next step was to make birds using clay, gum nuts and feathers we had found. Some of the children put their birds in the nest, which is now sitting up high in our mulberry tree. "Maybe some real birds will make their home up there and lay some eggs!" one of the children exclaimed. I really hope they do!

22.01.2022 This week we made some little gnomes using gumnuts, clay, material and wool. The children also let their imaginations run wild and made all kinds of animals and monsters. Later, a "monster trap" was built in our garden. This involved a plank of wood placed over a cardboard box full of "food" for the monster. It was quite ingenious really! Can't wait tho see if any monsters are caught. Hoping they are friendly ones!!!

21.01.2022 This week we had the lovely Vicki Kearney from Cityfood Growers come and help us prepare our garden beds for planting. It was so much fun and the children really enjoyed digging, sprinkling sprout seeds and also sprinkling the magical growing potion (natural fertiliser) over the beds. Can't wait to plant our seedlings on Monday and I am even more excited about the yummy organic food I will soon have to share with the children! You can contact Vicki on 0421 569 890. Her rates are very reasonable and she has a lovely manner and many years experience working with children.

19.01.2022 This week we had another visit from Pine Rivers Koala Care. The children were very excited to meet "Poppy" the possum and (some of us) enjoyed stroking her soft fur. The rest of the children were just happy to look at her! The children also helped me make puppets for our new story " The Windy, Whirly Autumn Leaf," the story of a leaf who learns the true value of friendship when a little snail helps him out of a difficult situation.

16.01.2022 For the last few weeks the children and I have been watching the cockatoos and kookaburras flying overhead, as well as a big nest up high in the branches of a tree. Weren't we surprised when the big nest fell out of the tree, allowing us to take a closer look! The children decided the nest belonged to a bird and that it couldn't be a crocodile's nest because they "can't climb trees." We had great fun painting the nest and the children have decided to decorate it with leaves ...and some "baby birds." On Wednesday we made black bean brownies. I have included the recipe below, but be warned, some of the children were so excited about the brownies cooking they could not sleep at rest time! Black Bean Brownies (Vegan and gluten free) 1 3/4 cups black beans (rinsed and drained.) 2 large flax eggs 3 tbsp coconut oil melted 3/4 cup cocoa powder 1/4 teaspoon sea salt 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 heaping cup sugar 1 1/2 tsp baking powder Mix together and puree Cook for 25 mins at 176 deg Celsius. From the "Minimalist baker." See more

15.01.2022 Some beautiful artwork was created this week as we explored the wonderful world of dropper painting. The children were also busy in the mud pit again creating a production line of many containers in which they were making "birthday cakes" and "porridge." Our new story this week is called "Stars for the Tiny Fairy" and is about a fairy who discovers the gift of giving when she finds some magical crystals in her garden.

06.01.2022 This week I was inspired by a trip to the beach and brought back a few shells and stones so the children could help decorate our garden. They really enjoyed making "flowers". The older children made their own and the little ones passed me the "petals" (shells.) We also did some sewing and chalk drawings when we weren't playing in the mud.

03.01.2022 Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed some of the children "telling stories" to their friends. To the uninitiated, this is telling a story using words and very subtle puppets rather than being read a story which already has the pictures drawn. Every day I tell the children one of these stories, which are so important for developing listening skills, language skills, focus and imagination. It stimulates both hemispheres of the brain simultaneously, making it a crucial building block for later learning. There are so few opportunities for children to do this these days, with technology providing stories which leave very little to the imagination as images are so vivid and real. It is delightful and heart-warming to see the children setting up and "making up" their own stories with their friends.

03.01.2022 This week we have been making "monsters" and "frogs" with unripe passionfruit that have been falling off the trees. ( Courtesy of the cockatoos and a few children!) This week's birthday story is about a frog who doesn't want to go swimming because he thinks the pond is too "slimy." When he accidently falls in, he realises that he is a very good swimmer and loves the feel of the cool, slimy water on his back! So many birthdays this week. It is a pleasure and a privelege to share these special days with the children and I LOVE writing each child their special birthday story.
