22.01.2022 Did you know that plastic bottle tops and bread tags do not get recycled if you put them into your kerbside bins? They go straight into landfill because they ar...e too small to be processed by the recycling machines. We have found two programs that do recycle these items and we have been collecting ours for the last couple of months. We simply have an extra recycling container located next to our kitchen bin. For bottletops we rinse and let dry and then place into the container. Are you collecting your plastic bottletops and bread tags? If not start collecting! From this Saturday and each month going forward we will have extra collection bins at our Coastal Waste Warrior beach clean up events! Once we have collected a sizeable amount we will deliver these to our nearest drop off point for each program. You can do this at home, work, school, local cafe our whole community can get involved in this. The programs these collections are supporting: * Plastic bottle tops - Envision hands - Helping Collect bottle tops are accepting your plastic bottle tops Australia wide to recycle them into prosthetic hands for children. All you need to do is: 1. Collect plastic milk, water and soft drinks lids recycling numbers 2 and 4 only. Bottle tops that do not have the recycle symbol if they are the same size and feel as one the tops with a 2 or 4 inside the recycle symbol of the lid then people can donate them. 2. Make sure you rinse them straight away, the cleaner the better! Remove the plastic wafer underneath the lid as these cannot be accepted. 3. Drop off to our next Coastal Waste Warrior beach clean up or one of the locations listed at the following page https://envision.org.au/bottle-top-drop-off-locations/ For their Top 10 FAQ’s head here https://envision.org.au/faq/ ITEMS THAT CANNOT BE ACCEPTED: Pop-up lids, Vegemite lids, coffee pods, wine bottle lids, plastic rings and plastic inserts (wafer). * Breadtags - Aussie Breadtags for Wheelchairs have a program where their recycler Transmutation - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle pays them for the bread tags and the funds are used to buy wheelchairs for the needy in South Africa. For more info head to: Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs ....and don’t forget to recycle your plastic bread bags and all other soft plastics at Coles & Woolies via their REDcycling program https://www.redcycle.net.au
