20.01.2022 The benefits of sunshine and fresh air! In the 1918 Influenza Pandemic, medics found that severely ill flu patients nursed outdoors recovered better than those treated indoors. A combination of fresh air and sunlight seems to have prevented deaths among patients; and infections among medical staff.

20.01.2022 Last year Shannon and I covered herbal medicine for the immune system. Very relevant for what we are all dealing with this year.

19.01.2022 This new study reveals that caffeine could permanently impact neurodevelopment. I already caution coffee consumption in my pregnant patients. The research clearly shows that caffeine can have a negative effect on pregnancy. The fetus does not have the enzyme necessary to breakdown caffeine when it crosses the placenta.

19.01.2022 This week's delicious organic box! Yum

19.01.2022 Hi Everyone. I have recently relocated to Brisbane and am only doing online consultations for the time being. I am currently booked out and am hoping to have more availability by the end of April. I hope you all have a safe, happy Easter with your friends and family. Warm Regards, Brad Parkinson.

18.01.2022 A great catch-up with a former work colleague discussing health concerns about the current 'COVID1984' climate, including problems with the fear-based narrative driven by the mainstream media.

18.01.2022 A new pilot study demonstrated that administration of calcifediol, a vitamin D derivative, may improve the clinical outcome of subjects requiring hospitalization for COVID-19. A very promising outcome. For more information on vitamin D dosing click here: https://www.bradparkinson.com.au//adequate-vitamin-d-intake

17.01.2022 A new dietary supplement could help restore the gut bacteria of malnourished kids, helping them to gain weight and grow up healthy. Researchers created a new dietary supplement from locally available ingredients, including chickpeas, soy flour, peanuts, green bananas, oil and sugar. Compared with children given a standard treatment for malnutrition, children given the new supplement put on weight and gained height at a faster rate. Fecal samples from these children showed that their gut bacteria better matched those of healthy kids by the end of the trial.

17.01.2022 In this study, researchers found that vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency (25-hydroxyvitamin D blood levels of 3050 and <30 nmol/L, respectively) were found to be common (44% and 15%, respectively). Compared to those with sufficient status, participants with vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency had strongly increased respiratory mortality.

17.01.2022 This is an excellent article by Austin Perlmutter on the Gut Immune System and its relationship to mental health. He offers a few useful tips on maintaining a healthy microbiome too.

15.01.2022 A recent review suggests Probiotics either taken by themselves or when combined with prebiotics, may help to ease depression. Of the 12 different probiotics investigated, 11 were shown to be potentially useful.

14.01.2022 With all the anxiety and stress we are dealing with daily, meditation and a healthy mindset are not only beneficial but integral to living well in today's demanding world. Shannon and I discuss the importance of incorporating these healthy practices into our own lives and how you can do the same.

14.01.2022 Gut microbial ecosystems play a considerable role in the efficacy of treatments. In this recent study, combining immunotherapy with specific microbial therapy boosts the ability of the immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells.

13.01.2022 Researchers found 47 bacterial species that were different in Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) patients. As part of their findings, they also found higher levels of members of the bacterial species of the genus Bacteroides in MDD patients and lower levels of those that belonged to the species Eubacterium and Blautia. It's great to see where this research is going. Bringing levels of Bacteroides down isn't often considered in clinical practice. This research suggests reducing Bacteroides numbers may be beneficial for MDD patients.

13.01.2022 What's Integrative Sports Nutrition? - While the ideal scenario for most sports enthusiasts is to maximise performance naturally, without the aid of androgenic steroids or chemical compounds, many athletes will incorporate the use of performance enhancers into their training regime. Managing diet and supplement intake when using these compounds requires an integrative approach. Click below to find out more.

12.01.2022 This highlights a common problem with Omega 3 research, dosing. Also, the quality of the Omega 3 supplement needs to be considered. In this study, the 2 gram dose of DHA far exceeds what has been used in major clinical trials, which is typically 1 gram or less daily.

11.01.2022 Brain circuit responsible for stress-induced insomnia is the same circuit responsible for stress-related immune system dysfunction, pointing to a close relationship between stress, insomnia and weakened immunity.

11.01.2022 This should be a no brainer, but unfortunately, I don't see it happening. Extensive research has demonstrated that Vitamin D is safe and provides a non-specific defence to respiratory viruses. A cheap intervention for our most vulnerable. However, governments are refusing to advise on preventative measures that could save lives.

11.01.2022 New research shows how bile acids act as signalling molecules to boost intestinal regeneration. I use many herbal medicines that increase bile production and bile flow. These findings shed light on a possible added benefit when using these herbs.

07.01.2022 In this study, most children experienced substantial improvements in their skin and overall wellbeing, following the topical application of the probiotic Roseomonas mucosa - a bacterium naturally present on the skin. Encouragingly, the therapeutic bacteria stayed on the skin and continued to provide benefit after therapy stopped.
