23.01.2022 Looking after our mental health is even more important in the current circumstances we are all facing. Anxiety, overwhelm, adrenal fatigue, burn-out, stress and depression can be difficult to manage, an holistic approach may offer additional support. Developing new routines, taking regular breaks, limiting exposure to media, counselling, nutrition and herbal medicine are all helpful options.... As a compounding Naturopath I am able to create unique blends of Anxiolytic, Adaptogens, Antidepressants, Nootropic, Relaxing, Sedative, Adrenal and Nervine tonics. Compounding liquid herbal tinctures allows me to create a powerful blend with multiple synergistic effects that I formulate for each individual’s specific needs. Herbal and natural medicines are safe and effective offering complementary and alternative treatments. 20.01.2022 Herbal Highlight Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus) Bladderwrack is a seaweed (brown algae) species that can help to regulate the thyroid gland through stimulating the production of thyroid hormones. For this reason, Bladderwrack may be useful in patients suffering from goitre, hypothyroidism and obesity associated with hypothyroidism. It is a valuable source of iodine, a trace element necessary for regulating the body’s metabolism. Studies have confirmed that the consumptio...n of bladderwrack improves the conditions of patients affected by metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and obesity by virtue of its numerous bioactive compounds. Organic iodine, as that found in bladderwrack, is thought to be better utilised by the body in terms of bioavailability and therefore less likely to be excreted than supplemental potassium iodide. Speak to your healthcare professional before taking Bladderwrack in cases of hypothyroidism not caused by iodine deficiency.

19.01.2022 What is precision medicine? Precision medicine is "an emerging approach for disease treatment and prevention that takes into account individual variability in genes, environment, and lifestyle for each person." This approach allows naturopaths, doctors and researchers to tailor treatments and prevention strategies. A vast contrast to the one-size-fits-all approach, where disease treatment and prevention strategies are developed for the average person, with little considerati...on of the differences between individuals. The term "precision medicine" may be relatively new, however the concept is not and has been a part of healthcare for many years. Think about when a person needs a blood transfusion, are they given blood from a randomly selected donor ? No... the donor’s blood type is matched to the recipient with the aim to reduce the risk of complications. Awareness of the role precision medicine has in day-to-day healthcare is expanding thanks greatly to DNA research in many areas of health and healthcare. I use precision medicine in my clinical practice and look forward to the improvements this will bring in healthcare in coming years. The focus should be on identifying which approaches to healthcare and treatments will be effective for which patients based on genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. https://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/primer/precisionmedicine/definition Published: August 17, 2020
