06.02.2022 "A" is for......... Anxiety. The lies your brain tells you about your self worth. That overwhelming, drowning feeling. The catastrophising. The loop of negative outcomes. The progressively worse perception of a situation. Knowing all this, but not being able to stop it. Wanting to stay under the bed covers so you dont have to face anyone or anything. The extra mental strength to walk out the door/ go to work/ meet up with friends/ spend time with your kids. Anxiety can be a ...lurker or an in your face looker. There is no one fix for stress and anxiety. Here are some things that may help, only some of them or all of them, for this occasion or the next. I find at least the first 2 points really helpful. talk to yourself: remind yourself that you're feeling anxiety and not real danger. Practice "I am not afraid" or "this will pass". don't distract yourself - acknowledge and deal with the attack. Name it, shame it. Try not to fight it. Keep reminding yourself that the symptoms will pass. breathe through it. Hand on belly, inhale through nose and out through mouth. Feel your belly rising keep your mind in the present: 5 things you can see; 4 things you can touch; 3 you can hear; 2 you can smell; 1 thing you can taste. HALT! Hungry? Angry? Lonely? Tired? _ the 4 feelings that bring the worst out in everyone. These can turn into triggers. Check in with yourself when symptoms flare. progressive relaxation - tense one muscle at a time and then relax it. Repeat everywhere until your whole body is relaxed. stop the "what ifs" - shift from what if to "so what". Sometimes the worst case scenario isn't as bad as what it seems slow down - remind yourself to be in the present. Slow your body down and your mind will follow. make a plan - reflect and plan out a strategy to help reduce feelings of anxiety/stress about the same situation should it come up again. ~Wendy Naturopathic Health Clinic 49 227 837

19.01.2022 Another incredible part of nature that welcomed me home today. This little creature flying from plant to plant blissfully unaware of the crisis we find ourselves in. ~Wendy

19.01.2022 The F word.... One of our top health concerns seen in clinic is.....fatigue. It also brings with it some close friends:... no energy worn out run down tired moody burnout poor immunity salt craving overwhelmed over eating / under eating unmotivated drained....... But fatigue (and its friends) is a symptom, it's not the cause. I could write an epic series on this - complete with seasons and episodes. And that's exactly it actually - fatigue can be understandable as it comes from seasons that eventually pass : children, work, life events, study... But sometimes fatigue sets up home, the unwelcome visitor that doesnt leave when these seasons have passed. In these cases we have to dig deeper.....to a functional level. The more common causes we come across in these cases are: -Thyroid -Haemachromatosis -Hormonal imbalance -Anaemia, low iron, low B12 -Adrenal fatigue -Malnourishment from poor food choices. Yes, this is an under recognized first world problem. -There are many more. There is no one size fits all when it comes to fatigue. Establishing the root cause is crucial to helping to improve health outcomes. Photo credit: my beautiful 13yr old daughter who was diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis at the tender age of 7.5. She always describes her fatigue, which can lay her up in bed especially at exam time, as "something more and different to sleepy tired. I feel like I want to exercise, I'm not tired, but I cant move my body off the couch". ~Wendy

14.01.2022 Vit D dosing. Kitties catching the morning sun. Vitamin D is an interesting one. It isnt actually a vitamin but a pro hormone, which means it converts into a hormone in our body. Most of our Vit D is produced in the body when our skin is exposed to sunlight, which produces an active form that is used by the body. Why do we need it?... plays a role in preventing cardiovascular, neurological and autoimmune disease enhances calcium, phosphate and magnesium absorption. This is really important for us ageing ladies and our bone health going into menopause Improves cognitive ability antioxidant and anti inflammatory properties Most people receive adequate levels of Vit D from 5-10 minutes of sun exposure in the safe early and late hours of the day. Signs of Vit D deficiency include: recurring infections and illnesses muscle weakness unexplained bone and muscle pain Sources of vit D other than the sun, are fatty fish, eggs, mushrooms and fortified dairy products or cereals. If you are concerned about your Vit D level or immunity, come in and have a chat to Sharon or myself. ~Wendy

11.01.2022 I got this great set of ideas from Meriah Nichols.com for those of you with kids. I know we aren't in quarantine, but lack of sports/after school activities, increasing anxiety and self distancing has made my 3 a little pensive. These are great distractions and nice things to do anyway, current situation aside.

07.01.2022 Thursday 26/03 update: Our physical clinic will re-open in the morning at 10:30, but we are still accessible by phone until 5 today and from 9 tomorrow ... 49 227 838
