24.01.2022 This is what an imbalance in the immune system and gut health can look like in little ones, which no steroid cream will ever completely treat Not to mention a certain food in particular being a huge trigger for this purely breastfed bub . How gorgeous is she seriously?! With the right treatment and support over the past couple of months it’s great to see the amazing results. Support internally by regulating a healthy gut and immune response, eliminating the triggering food... and also a beautiful topical cream to soothe and nourish her skin. That gorgeous skin! Swipe across to see how well her skin has healed www.naturopathtoyou.com.au . . . . . #naturopathtoyou #skinhealing #naturalhealth #nonasties #treatthecause #breastfedbub #immunehealth #hypersensitivityreaction #eczema #childrenshealth #guthealth #naturopathbrisbane #naturopathgoldcoast

24.01.2022 There is more to life than cow’s milk! Did you know there are so many other foods that are high in calcium? Yes dairy products contain calcium such as cow’s milk, yoghurt and cheeses...but these can be quite harmful to the gastrointestinal tract especially at this time of year with seasonal allergies (hay fever, asthma, sinusitis) playing havoc on the immune system. Let’s get the facts straight and focus on the other great nutritious foods that also contain high amounts of ...calcium to support heart health, bone growth and development, muscle contraction and nerve signalling. Sources of Calcium include: Green leafy vegetables - kale and spinach Dried fruit - in particular figs Sardines and salmon Almonds Seeds - chia, poppy and sesame seeds Good quality probiotic yoghurt (not laden with sugar) Beans and lentils Tofu and other soybean products Edamame beans Incorporate the above to your daily diet into salads, snacks and meals to support your calcium stores! Many of us don’t produce the right enzymes to breakdown the lactose (sugar) and casein protein in cow’s milk leading to inflammation in the gut and intestines. Don’t forget about your fresh ingredients rather than purely fortified!! www.naturopathtoyou.com.au . . . . . #naturopathtoyou #calciumrichfoods #morethanmilk #lifewithoutdairy #growthanddevelopment #guthealth #foodsensitive #immunehealth #skinconditions #inflammatoryresponse #foodintolerances #calciumrichfoods #vegetables #fruit #proteinfoods #dairyfreeoptions #addtofood #nutrition #gutintegrity

23.01.2022 When you deserve a Breakfast treat and can easily make a healthy one at home - my Oat Pancakes are the way to go! I often make these for the family on a weekend or make them into pikelets for the lunchboxes. It’s nice to mix up Breakfast occasionally and I am always looking for ways we can enjoy some delicious food while keeping it full of nutrients too. 23.01.2022 It’s been a little while since I have been able to do some cook ups in the kitchen...but today I was able to give one of my very old but sooo delicious and tasty recipes a go again! Who doesn’t love a good pikelet right?! These beauties are delicious, healthy and perfect for the little hands tucking into their lunchboxes . My pikelets are made on ‘oat flour’ and I make my own by blitzing up rolled oats in a Thermomix / food processor until it becomes a fine ‘flour’. If you ...can’t eat rolled oats or they just aren’t your friend, you can substitute with almond meal, buckwheat flour or something that floats your boat! I like to top these with a strawberry jam that is naturally sweetened with dates found at your grocery store Leisa’s Pikelet Recipe: Ingredients: 2 cups oat flour 1 cup almond milk (or another cows milk alternative) 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 pinch pink Himalayan sea salt 2 eggs 2 teaspoons coconut sugar or rice malt syrup coconut oil for cooking Method: In a bowl combine the eggs and milk. Add the remaining ingredients and whisk well. Heat oil over medium to high heat in frying pan. Pour small amounts of mixture onto the pan and allow to cook. Turn down the heat to low and take the pan off the heat and back on throughout the cooking process to ensure they don’t burn. Flip once they have cooked and cook the alternate side. Repeat the process until all the mixture is gone. Enjoy!! Xo For more recipes head to - www.naturopathtoyou.com.au

21.01.2022 Waking up to these amazing reviews in my inbox is so rewarding, I’m so proud it’s hard not to share Since my first visit with Leisa less than 3 months ago, I have managed to lose 10kg in weight, lowered my cholesterol, improved my liver function and restored my gut health. 16.01.2022 Getting through the festive season unharmed.... It can be tough to make healthy food choices at this time of year with beautiful platters, lunches, drinks, social gatherings, treats, desserts etc. Do you find it tough to ‘be good’ in these situations and get the guilts? Your not the only one that can struggle when there is a gorgeous cheese platter in front of you. The real focus needs to be on having a plan in place with your meals and snacks at this time of year, just like ...any other time when you want to make changes or still working towards your goals. Having a plan in place allows you to enjoy some treats and the cheese platter you’re dying to try. Go for it! Depriving yourself can only make your mental state when it comes to food worse. In saying this, if you have goals in place your focus is still strong and it’s important to have your healthy food choices easily available in your home to eat rather than feeling like your choices are going downhill. This allows you to get back on track and re focus! 16.01.2022 L o w i r o n l e v e l s can be caused by many underlying and contributing factors. Most common in women (due to menstruation), growing children and adolescence, athletes, those who do a lot of intense exercise and pregnancy. Symptoms of iron deficiency include fatigue, legs cramps, aching legs and general soreness, headaches, migraines, exhaustion during and after exercise, heavy and painful periods, poor memory and concentration. If iron is low it impacts the ability to... transport an oxygen molecule to your tissues and cells to promote circulation around the body. You may find iron deficiency is picked up in blood work but something to keep in mind, everyone’s range and how much iron they require for healthy circulation really does vary...this is why it can in some instances appear to be ‘within range’. Other contributing nutrients that impact absorption and transportation of oxygen is folic acid and B 12 in which they work synergistically with iron. There are many poor absorbable forms of iron supplements out there and it’s really important to access firstly why your iron is low in the first place? Is there an absorption problem, is your body under quite a lot of stress, are there changes that need to be made to your diet? It’s not always as simple as just taking a supplement. What form of iron is your supplement, do you already suffer from constipation and digestive issues? What dosage is actually right for you? Looking at why you may have an iron deficiency and an issue absorbing your iron is worth investigating further. Always speak to your health professional before taking iron supplements and look at the big picture www.naturopathtoyou.com . . . . . #irondeficiency #growingchildren #circulation #energy #healthyenergy #schoolchildren #fatigue #poorconcentration #healthyfamily #ironstores #redbloodcells #qualitysupplements #naturalhealth #nutritionadvice #anaemia #buildyourblood #naturopathtoyou #lowenergy #musclehealth #fitnessgoals #athletes

15.01.2022 I am thankful ... I am so THANKFUL for the roof over my head, the bathrooms I get to clean, the washing I get to put on. I am THANKFUL to be able to leave the hous...e, buy groceries and meet friends for a coffee (or wine). Rather than focusing on the nonsense we fill our minds with, the emphasis we put on ‘things’, the false self talk we start to believe....look around you, be in the moment, take a second and breathe. 11.01.2022 Painful periods are NOT normal. Period pain, also known as Dysmenorrhoea is seen by many females to be ‘normal’ and something that just happens. The pain is caused by contractions of the uterus at this time of the month but if there is pain before or during your period, your body is trying to tell you something! Firstly, it is always important to investigate further into your reproductive health through scans or laparoscopy to rule out endometriosis, poly cystic ovaries or fi...broids. Other factors that may be impacting your painful periods: - a diet high in refined and processed foods (junk food, deep fried and sugar) - intake of caffeinated beverages - alcohol - gluten and dairy products (causing more bloating within the digestive tract therefore creating more discomfort) - high prostaglandin levels increase pain and inflammation, healthy fats such as fish, avocado, nuts and seeds is a great way to reduce prostaglandins in the body at this time of the month. - high stress hormones (stress support and management may be required) - vitamins need mineral deficiencies (magnesium, zinc, iron, EFA’s to name a few....) - hormone imbalance (the ratio between progesterone, oestrogen and testosterone is required for a healthy menstrual cycle) Always speak to a health professional to investigate hormone levels, underlying health concerns and also guidance and support to balance the above factors www.naturopathtoyou.com.au . . . . . #painfulperiods #menstrualcycle #healthyperiods #happyhormones #liveyourbestlife #hormonehealth #womenshealth #hormonesupport #dietarychanges #guthealth #essentialfattyacids #quality #brisbanehealth #loganhealth #logancity #wellness #naturopathbrisbane #naturopathgoldcoast #daisyhill #periodpain #womenempowerment #monthlycycle #hormones #fertility #naturalhealth #nutritionalmedicine

09.01.2022 Did you know Vitamin C is a natural anti histamine? Vitamin C is a water soluble nutrient in which the body doesn’t store. This is why it’s SO important to be consuming Vitamin C rich foods on a daily basis to support immune health, cartilage, bone health, tissue repair, absorption of iron, support antioxidant status to scavenge free radicals leading to cancer and adrenal gland health. I incorporate a specific dosage of vitamin C for treatment of a variety of health concern...s, in particular seasonal allergies, hay fever, sinus infections and general lowered immune health. Ensure to consult with your practitioner about treating with vitamin C a dosage that your body requires to use at a therapeutic dosage. Vitamin C rich foods: * Capsicum * Broccoli * Brussels sprouts * Kale * Kiwi fruit * Lemons * Lychees * Paw paw * Strawberries * Oranges * Sweet potato and white potato * Thyme * Parsley * And many many more fruits and vegetables Vitamin C is abundant in many of our beautiful fresh fruit and vegetables that we have readily available to us. www.naturopathtoyou.com.au . . . . . #vitaminc #adrenalhealth #therapeutic #healingfoods #vitamincrich #fruitandvegetables #dailydiet #fruits #vegetables #citrus #allergies #immunehealth #antioxidantrich #healwithin #nourishment #eatfresh #eatlocal #spring #seasonalfoods #histamine #childrenshealth #familyhealth

08.01.2022 LIKE if you love some simple Lunch ideas for work and to make at home! If you’re getting a little over the basic lettuce, tomato and cucumber salad, I’m here to add a little more fun to your salads but keeping them nutritious at the same time. I totally get it, we are all time poor, but the effort you put into your Lunch really can impact how you feel for the afternoon, so see how you can improve it! My biggest tip is if you are cooking Dinner the night before, always cook ...extra of the protein you are preparing whether it be beef, chicken, fish, turkey, tofu, chickpea, lentils etc. even extra vegetables whether they be roasted or steamed. If you’re there already cooking...it will make life sooo much easier come the next day. Then you have a protein to pair with salad, vegetables or to add to a wholegrain wrap! A few ideas to mix your Lunches up this week! These can be altered slightly to suit your choice of proteins and vegetables / salads. Have a great start to the week! Leisa www.naturopathtoyou.com.au

05.01.2022 NO I’m not sick, it’s just my allergies .....Sinus pressure, sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose and throat, congestion or heavy head. That feeling of having to explain to those around you no I’m not sick...it’s just my allergies!! . There are different plants and flowers growing and these can very well heighten the immune response by releasing more histamine in the body our mast cells. So many foods that we eat contain certain amounts of histamine, but the amount varies. W...hen you’re body is releasing higher amounts of histamine to the response to a trigger (grasses, pollens, foods) higher histamine foods can absolutely send the immune system into more of a spin, making it very difficult to get relief from an anti histamine. There are natural alternatives to regulate a healthy immune response to ensure histamine release is controlled. Both underlying gut support and also direct support on the immune response for the best outcome. Treatments focused on immune modulation, regulation, anti inflammatory, anti bacterial, anti viral and immune enhancing properties . 04.01.2022 A few of my top tips for supplementation in children 1. Very small amount of water + supplements mixed in using a syringe, squirt into their mount (it may sometimes take more than 1 syringe full). 2. Open capsules or place powders into small amount of water (50ml roughly) and allow them to I drink it if they are old enough. Sippy cup or straight from a regular cup. 3. Place supplements into a bottle with a small amount of formula or breastmilk before a feed.... 4. Place into a smoothie 5. Place into pear or prune juice 6. Add to main meals - Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner (depending on the supplement / treatment) 7. Add into homemade ice blocks (my least favourite option) It can take trial and error as to what way works for you and your family best. Stay consistent and kids can come around once they get used to the routine. www.naturopathtoyou.com.au . . . . . #naturopathtoyou #childrenshealth #naturopathy #wellness #familyhealth #keeitsimple #naturopathtoyoukids #naturalhealth #nutritionalhealth #herbalmedicine #naturopathy

01.01.2022 The H A P P Y neurotransmitter that is found in high amounts within our gut. The health of our digestive tract really does heavily impact our serotonin production within the body. It is also quite fascinating the impact specific strains of bacteria have on how we feel on a day to day basis! A few symptoms of low serotonin: - low appetite - irritable bowel symptoms or constipation (can go either way) - digestive upset - poor sleep patterns... - anxiety and stress - low self esteem - poor memory - weight gain - nausea - behavioural imbalance and outbursts and more... 01.01.2022 A L M O N D M I L K .... It’s a New Year but do you still find yourself staring at the almond milk at the grocery store wondering which one to buy? Let me help you out! The milks vary slightly in price and their marketing can be very misleading as to which one is actually better for you and your body. The two factors I look at are the percentage of almonds and the quality of the ingredients (are there any added ingredients to help stabilise the product). One of the highest... is 7% and one of the lowest is 2% of almonds. This will also effect the calories per serve, however I would prefer to have a higher almond percentage and lower additives and preservatives in my milk. You want to avoid purchasing the cheapest product when it comes to almond milk as you will be getting less almonds and higher watered down preservatives which is not going to be beneficial to your body. 1. Pure Harvest contains 7% almonds, organic brown rice, sea salt and natural flavour 2. Almond Breeze contains 2.5% almonds, tapioca starch, mineral salt, salt, stabiliser, emulsifier and natural flavour 3. Woolworths brand contains 2.5% almonds, natural flavour, stabilisers, mineral salt, salt, vegetable emulsifier. 4. Vita soy contains 3.8% almonds, mineral, salt, emulsifier, natural flavour, vegetable gum 5. So Good contains 2.5% almonds, mineral, emulsifier, natural flavour, mineral salt, salt, vegetable gum, added antioxidant and B vitamins 6. Australia’s Own contains 3% almonds, organic sunflower oil and salt 7. BonSoy Almond Milk is 2.8% almond paste with a higher heating temperature for teas and coffee’s, tapioca syrup, sunflower oil, sunflower lecithin, salt, sodium bicarbonate, gellan gum The quality and the highest percentage of almonds are the two factors I look at when purchasing an Almond Milk. My top pics are Pure Harvest Activated Almond Milk and Australia’s Own Organic Almond Milk. These two products are best when using in smoothies, cooking and everyday use. BonSoy Almond Milk is a better option when heating for teas and coffee’s as it has a higher heating temperature. Choose the right almond milk for you and purchase a good quality product!

01.01.2022 Fight or flight (sympathetic nervous system response) is when your body is in overdrive. Some may feel stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, panicky or can very well let you know in other ways - irritated, frustrated, quick to anger, impatient, headaches, hormone disturbances, gut problems...the list goes on. It’s the bodies natural response to ‘stress’ and survival. However, we don’t want this occurring too often and lasting for long periods of time. The body will burn out, use up... its vitamin and mineral stores and you are going to be left feeling flat, tired, run down and very nutrient deficient. How do you get yourself out of this vicious cycle you appear to be in? Adaptogens, nervine tonics, carminatives, adrenal tonics and many other ways to support the nervous system to promote calm, balanced mood and most of all improve your adaptation and resilience to life’s stressors. You may wonder, how can the same stressful situation occur to two people but they seem to cope so well whereas here you are feeling so overwhelmed. Your biochemistry for starters may differ but your resilience also is due to adrenal gland function, hormones and optimal nutritional status .
