25.01.2022 Hmmmm....sharing of microbes is considered beneficial just as getting them from our food and environment is important in building and maintaining our microbiome. Avoiding touch seems a bit extreme when its a core human interaction. Let's apply some common sense and reserve the fist pump for those who are unwell ( and of course those that don't wash after toileting!). And shake hands with friends and family as a way of exchanging beneficial microbes and good will :)

24.01.2022 Naturopathy Gold Coast has transitioned to a 100% online clinical naturopathic practice. Same great service from the comfort of your own home. You can book a consultation via the website: www.naturopathygoldcoast.com.au or www.intimateecology.com.au ... Alternatively you can message through the page to find more about appointment times and costings. Many Thanks, Moira

23.01.2022 Did you know that I offer Low Level Laser (photobiomodulation) for a variety of different issues? This safe state of the art technology has so many applications: from pain reduction, increasing organ function, stress support, allergy, immunity support and addiction reduction. In my work with women's health it can be used to help people manage uterine prolapse and dysmneorrhoea (painful periods) with long lasting effects.... This is a non invasive alternative to acupuncture and is relaxing and easy to receive. Why not give it a try? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22648444

23.01.2022 Recent research suggests that a healthy dietincluding proper amounts of lutein and zeaxanthincan help. https://www.optometricmanagement.com//blue-ligh/march-2018

21.01.2022 Gut Instincts ! Love the microbial world

20.01.2022 I am so grateful for the opportunity to discuss another important aspect of vaginal health. In this podcast with FX Medicine I discuss Group B Strep in pregnancy and birth. I also discuss the role of preventative medicine in optimising birth and minimising carriage of Group B Strep. https://www.fxmedicine.com.au//understanding-group-b-strep

19.01.2022 Today I got to chat to Amy Mingin from Women's Health Online about vaginal health and the vaginal microbiome :)

19.01.2022 Home grown vegetables. A small daily yield from our little patch. The purple carrots may be small but the earthy crisp taste they added to the evening meal was devine. They put the other carrots we've eaten this week to shame. There is so much to be gained from having your own patch : relaxation time, earth connection and getting dirty ( code for microbe exposure !) curiosity, fresh produce, no chemicals, ready to go fresh herbs and a little sense of accomplishment:) we may not be self subsistent, but were trying. Do you grow your own veg ?

19.01.2022 I am taking my own advice and engaging in some work life balance...what does this mean? It means that I will be taking a break from the 26th October until the 1st November. Last clinic day is this Thursday and I am back in clinic again on Friday the 2nd. If you need to see me before I go please make an appointment by phoning 07 55 755 300. x Moira

17.01.2022 You may not know that one of my special health interest areas is personal and vaginal health. I run a dedicated clinical service helping women break the cycle of recurrent infection and optimising their vaginal health. You may not know that vaginal health and the microbes that inhabit it can impact fertility, urinary tract infections, genital health and if imbalaced increase the risk of STI. If you are interested in this service you can check out a little more about it Intimate Ecology or call clinic reception to make a booking 07 55 755300. [email protected]

16.01.2022 Yesterday a friend had his kidney removed after a mole turned out to be a melanoma. His experience prompted me to go get that skin check I had been too busy to book in. It turns out I have two skin lesions that need removing but thankfully they are only basal cell carcinomas (localised and minor). This week, if you've been putting off a skin cancer check book it! It only takes 15 minutes and it could save your life.

13.01.2022 Yarn craft benefits your mind. Interventions don't have to be supplement based. After 6 hours of lectures yesterday I woke today without a voice. I came home to relax, restore and to work on a group crochet project which will be donated to a women's charity. The benefits of yarn craft are meditative and stress relieving and when done in a group setting add to general wellbeing. Today I allowed myself to forget about the marking, the teaching, the clinic and just indulge ...my "nanna" craft. It seems that through getting snuggly with my yarn I am warding off dementia, improving my sleep, supporting my nervous system, increasing self esteem and my sense of community. Do you craft? Post Pics below :) Check out this blog about the health benefits of yarn craft http://www.lionbrand.com//10-most-important-health-benefi/

12.01.2022 An interesting perspective. If you practice the 5 second rule chances are you won't end up with noticeable detrimental effects however it may be worth considering: if your health is less than it could be, the food type is relatively moist and the surface location is high traffic http://snip.ly/m21ub

11.01.2022 Is this your NEW YEARS EVE? Tired, over it? Dreading staying up until Midnight? over socialising or just don't want to leave the house? Up to season 10 on some random Netlix marathon because your too tired to leave the couch?... As our working year wraps up, our financial worries continue and Christmas and New Year seems like another chore, you may need to consider getting some help for your fatigue. Sometimes this fatigue is mild and ranges from poor motivation in daily activities coupled with insomnia and poor rest to severe fatigue often classified as Chronic fatigue. The treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and fatigue in Naturopathy often requires a multi-faceted approach. This means that there is no one magic supplement that will fix your fatigue overnight. I find I get the best results when I recommend treatment and lifestyle approaches which are based on the individual’s presentation. Part of this presentation takes into account the circumstances leading to the fatigue. For example there is often a viral trigger associated with fatigue and treatment would require support to the immune system. Other triggers include *hormonal change, *childbirth, *nutrient deficiency (dietary and absorption) *chronic long term stress, *hectic lifestyles, *recreational drug and alcohol abuse/misuse, *exposure to chemical or environmental toxins, *pharmaceutical medication, *Irritable bowel syndrome, *amalgam fillings, (bacterial infections. Failure to consider these triggers often leads to treatment that is mildly effective but not restorative, which for someone who is chronically exhausted is frustrating and trying. In my practice, clients who fall into the chronic fatigue category will often be on a range of herbal and nutritional products and dietary suggestions, which change as their symptoms do. This approach also requires that the individual be aware of their own triggers, approach to life in general and to a certain degree they must be willing to change and adapt to their new situation. If this sounds like you book an appointment for the new year for naturopathic assessment and holistic support:

11.01.2022 Don't forget you can book your 2019 appointments via the booking link below. I will be back in clinic on the 10th of January. See you then :) https://bookings.nookal.com/bookin/appointment/DHPWQ/WDUUU

10.01.2022 Oranges were the buzz question in clinic in the past month. Whilst I would love to say the eating them would make everything better it's often more complex than that. My suggestion: eat oranges and dont neglect to address other key influences

09.01.2022 How microbiome assessment can help you and your IBS symptoms (Ubiome GUT explorer testing). Call to make an appointment today 0755755300

09.01.2022 Maintaining a healthy and diverse GUT microbiome is dependant on a wide range of diverse plant based foods in your diet. Without them your bacterial colonies have a hard time surviving and you get none of the benefit and all of the defecit of not having a healthy digestive colony. Flatulence, cramps variable bowel habits will be an everyday normal and repercussions on metabolic, cardiac , cognitive and general health will follow. This delicious salad and side incorporates 14 different plant foods! I aim to get 50+ different types in my week. Do you accept the challenge to change your microbiome? See how many you can get in your week :)

08.01.2022 This week I visited Hobart to attend a workshop on the microbiome, using and interpreting DNA based stool analysis. This is a technique that I will be using in clinic to help you with digestive symptoms and reducing risk for an array of chronic diseases. The goal is to encourage diversity (as many different beneficial microbe types ) and the easiest way to do this is to an abundance of plant based foods. As you can see we were well catered for. If your interested in this approach please get in touch !

07.01.2022 Did you know Naturopathic healthcare looks at all aspects of your health and finds solutions that fit you as an individual and your situation? I mention this because lately I have been reading a lot of research and one thing continues to be evident: many things contribute to health presentations and illness. If you don't spend the time looking for those individual components how can you unravel them to make positive changes? And those individual components are generally diff...erent than the next persons. Part of the Naturopathic and holistic process is to listen to your story. Find out about your presentation even if you have been labelled with a disease. Sometimes I feel like a detective on a case trying to find the motive or the missing clue. Its always a pleasure when through hard work on the clients part and some "fancy" detective work on mine pays we solve the mystery and address the real issues. If you would like someone to be your personal health detective and figure out your influences on disease then consider a naturopathic health consultation with me today. I would love to work with you and take the time to figure out your health :) Please phone clinic reception on 07 55 755300 to book an appointment

07.01.2022 Breast implants, strange immune illness, don't know why? The rise in breast augmentation has seen a rise in associated illnesses in those that have had surgery. The below podcast is an interesting listen and something I would recommend sharing with anyone who may fit the picture or who may be considering the cosmetic procedure. https://www.fxmedicine.com.au//breast-implant-illness-alys

07.01.2022 Looking for a new winter drink and sick of the same old things? Have you tried a Mermaid Latte? This spicy little vibrant blend is a new favourite of mine. Warming and supportive for my nervous system whilst providing some minerals and medicinal herbs. I make mine in the milk frother on an Almond Milk base so its blended nicely and a little frothy. Why not give it a go :) https://www.nutraorganics.com.au/mermaid-latte-90g/408

06.01.2022 Dear valued clients and friends, Due to the Commonwealth games and the uncertainty of travel, clinic accessibility and a well deserved opportunity to have some rest, I will not be available for clinical consultation for the first two weeks of April. I will be back as usual for the week of the 16th of April. In this week I will also be available on Saturday for consultation in addition to my usual Thursday and Friday. Clinic reception will be active during this time to take... and schedule appointments. I look forward to seeing you in April. Have a great Easter break and beyond. :) Moira

06.01.2022 I saw this today and can relate (although my yoga is a little different and not as amazing). Often we abandon self care because were busy, or we have the kids, the dog gets in the way. This is inspiring. Sometimes you need to just prioritise you ;)

04.01.2022 This week a new research article hit my desk that is exciting beyond words...well for me anyway ;) The research sequenced with DNA techniques the microbial species from different locations in the female reproductive tract including not just the vagina but other internal locations like the fallopian tubes, uterus, pouch of douglous (yes that's a thing !) and you know what they found...microbes and lots of them. These areas that were once thought to be sterile and inside the... body are rich and diverse in their bacterial species. The type and amount of bacteria in some locations suggests that microbes might be associated with some of the more common female disorders we see like endometriosis, anaemia, fibroids and PCOS and even infertility. So much to marvel at beyond the GUT and Vagina microbes. I'll keep you updated as this research progresses and replicated (contamination needs to be ruled out as a reason why some of the microbes were there). What it does do is give a possible point of manipulation to see improvements in these disorders. In all sites of microbial populations in our body, food and what we eat has the biggest impact on how they are represented. Just one more piece of the puzzle.

03.01.2022 Need a little extra insight into your health? Why not book an appointment and take advantage of available functional testing. Call 07 55 755 300 9am-5pm to book

03.01.2022 It's been a busy morning today with low level laser therapy ( the amazing piece of technology in the background). Today it's been all about laser therapy for vision !

02.01.2022 This week in clinic I have had a flurry of menopausal women. For some the warmer weather means that the flushes that they tolerated in the colder months are becoming unbearable for others constant and irregular bleeding adds additional strain on a big and stressful day. Tempers are short, spouses get yelled at, tears flow and everyone is on high alert. Perimenopause and menopause can be a easy transition however for many it brings up an array of symptoms that disrupt their no...rmal lives, cause sleeplessness and stress and impact many aspects of daily living. Taking pills and potions will help with some aspects (and herbs and supplements are always included in my menopausal support programs), but unless you address your lifestyle and the burden your body has to deal with, from inputs like food, stress and alcohol then the treatment will only be mildly effective. Easing and supporting the transition of Menopause can be accomplished in a variety of ways central to which is lifestyle and diet. Some simple tips for getting on the right track: Reduce (avoid if possible) alcohol and caffeine Ensure you eat a daily ferment (sauerkraut, kimchi, miso, yoghurt, kombucha, kefir) Drink plenty of water Eat a diet that is rich in vegetables of all different colours and good sources of quality protein Have a daily relaxation routine (yoga, breathing, stretching, walking, meditating, Qi Gong) Ensure you have adequate fibre and your bowel motions are regular

02.01.2022 Stay tuned for a New Year announcement ! New clinical service and new connect page :) Have a safe end to 2017 and a fantastic and healthy 2018. Catch you in the New Year x
