07.01.2022 As part of National Safe Work Month, today the NSC recognises World Mental Health Day. The NSC's Events and Public Relations Coordinator, Tracy Pierce is a metal health first-aider who is very mindful of the importance of psychological safety and wellbeing in the workplace. Your colleague hurts themselves at work. You know what to do to help them where the first aid kit is, who the first aid officers are etc. But what if that same colleague is experiencing anxiety or de...pression, what is the procedure? Physical first aid is broadly accepted in the community as a necessity, but we often overlook mental health first aid as we don’t know how to approach it. The Mental Health First Aid course has given me some tools to help start the conversation. It’s not about diagnosing people, or about having all the answers, but about listening, empathising and helping guide a person to resources that may help, Tracy said. As we continue to work through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact, it is important that we continue to check-in with our colleagues to ensure they know they are able to reach out for help. Safe Work Australia has several advice and support resources available via their website http://ow.ly/e74Y50BOYYl
