01.01.2022 Dehydrated skin At this time of the year I start to hear many of my clients talking about how dehydrated their skin is looking and feeling. Dehydration is actually the first step in ALL skin conditions and in Australia 97 % of people suffer with dehydrated skin ... Despite what most people’s think, the amount of water that you drink is not the main cause for having a dehydrated skin. In fact the amount of water we drink is only responsible for around 13 % of hydration in the skin. The actual main cause of dehydration is a weakened acid mantle. Once this protective film on the surface of our skin is impaired we end up with water from the deeper layers of skin being able to evaporate away. There is also a much higher instance of sensitivity and inflammation once the protective layer of skin is interrupted. To repair and maintain the acid mantle we must avoid using stripping ingredients on the skin and use a quality skin care range with ingredients that strengthen the skin.
