24.01.2022 Cant help but feel for the crew and Skipper.

22.01.2022 It's worth remembering that we put a lot of faith in modern navigation electronics, but they have limitations that we are often not aware of. Check out this article, and remember you should use other additional information to confirm electronic navigation rather than rely on it alone. https://www.cruisingworld.com//safety-at-sea-dragging-an/

22.01.2022 Travelling up the East coast this week checking out as many marinas as possible. Some are clearly more developed than others!. Stay tuned for a run down on what we found out

22.01.2022 Lamplight dinner on board?? Not like the old days - dinner in a bowl balanced on your knees. Either way Daniel is happy after sailing to Quindalup practising day skipper navigation. Sailing seems to have come a long way!

21.01.2022 Interesting review of the new Dufour 360

21.01.2022 So many people imagine sailing at night but wonder about the navigation you need and finding your way. If this is you call Navathome Australia - online training in navigation and seamanship

21.01.2022 Navathome Australia has a great new website and we have also introduced the new yachtmaster theory fast track course plus new animations on vessel handling. Check it out at www.navathome.com.au

20.01.2022 Nice new mooring buoy at Quindalup near Dunsborough. One of the best spots for overnight stays with flat crystal clear water and a great opportunity to practice tide height predictions from the day skipper theory course.

20.01.2022 It has been a busy weekend at Navathome for graduations with four new Day Skipper graduates and 2 new Yachtmaster graduates. Congratulations to everyone on completing their theory

20.01.2022 Well worth the read. Gybing is high risk, especially in strong winds, unless carried out with care

19.01.2022 Really happy to receive this feedback - it made our day:- "Thank you for providing this training course and for your timely and helpful responses to all my questions along the way. Much appreciated. I certainly have acquired more knowledge and gained a very healthy respect about all things maritime as a result of completing this course. I found various components of this course to be very challenging and difficult, to be honest. And in many ways I am glad that it was so diffi...cult. I said to my wife, "they certainly dont give these day skipper certificates away", on many occasions while doing the modules and while doing the assessment yesterday. And I am left at the end with the overwhelming feeling that this is how it should be (ie. difficult and challenging) for something so serious as being a skipper of a vessel and having the day skipper qualification awarded to a person seeking such a qualification. And of course I am very pleased that I have passed the assessment and have demonstrated to the satisfaction of you and your institution that I am worthy of being awarded the day skipper certificate." 19.01.2022 Thanks Brad and all the best for your sailing

19.01.2022 So we should all know who needs to take action here to avoid the collision!

19.01.2022 Some interesting news for offshore racers https://www.yachtingworld.com//new-fastnet-course-route-ch

18.01.2022 I am often asked about watchkeeping on a yacht at sea and the importance of maintaining a lookout using all available means. This incident report https://www.atsb.gov.au/media/4440676/mo2012006_final.pdf highlights the importance of knowing and understanding the navigational equipment on board and combining this with effective watchkeeping in order to make early appraisals of the risk of a collision.

18.01.2022 Some really interesting background information on compass history in this article. Helps to know what you are dealing with. Watch out for steel framed sunglasses when using a hand bearing compass!

16.01.2022 From all of us at Navathome Australia, Happy New Year. And to all our students dont stop studying just cos it is New Year! Have a good one Helen

16.01.2022 The last of the Norwegian Safety Videos (that we know of). We are really not sure about the ninja mooring tactics, the surfboard without fins, or the need to wear a wetsuit whilst docking, but... Well you make up your mind.

16.01.2022 From a man with a plan when it comes to docking, to our doubts whether anyone planned their trip and thought about reentry. At least their boat handling was good enough to save them. What would you have done?

16.01.2022 Easter and perfect weather for a little boat maintenance. Didnt quite get a sail in. All teak work done, cleaned up the hull, replaced a battery and thorough clean inside and out and yes - lifelines tightened. Lots of people doing course work this weekend so well done to everyone and apologies to their partners.

15.01.2022 Selene is up for her out of water service. Growth is from sitting in the berth for six months. We used a soft ablative antifoul last year. She cleaned up well. Photos show before and after coating the prop with prop speed and a sad prop anode. Props are off the bow thruster showing the through tunnel.

15.01.2022 Here at Navathome, we like a good plan, and this man has it. He makes launching look easy.

15.01.2022 Congratulations to Michael, Bretton and Steve who all passed their day skipper theory on the weekend. Well done.

14.01.2022 Today is a great day for a sail out of Bunbury. Might shake the mothballs out of Selenes sails and head down to Peppermint Beach. If you are not sure what this weather map is saying give us a call about Day Skipper courses

14.01.2022 So working out the mast clearances when going under bridges is a pretty important step, but sometimes you gotta do it even when you don`t have clearance..... The guy on the boom was looking like he was close to getting wet!

14.01.2022 Pods of dolphins down in our home sailing ground Geographe Bay today. Nice 10 -12 knot breeze so sails slightly eased and a steady 6 knots over ground

13.01.2022 Mmmm wish I had done my online RYA day Skipper theory with Navathome Australia

13.01.2022 Anchoring in windy conditions means good gear. Check every aspect of the anchor system --at the end of the day it is a life jacket for the boat!

13.01.2022 Imagine skippering this at 104m of beauty. An RYA yachtmaster is a great start to getting onboard. Stunning boat, stunning build, amazing concept. What a yacht!

12.01.2022 Winter is not far way. Great time to get into your RYA Online Day Skipper or Yachtmaster theory ready for the next cruising season. See us at www.navathome.com.au

11.01.2022 RYA sail training online for novices to yachtmasters

11.01.2022 Hi All Summer is not far way. Time to do a risk check on the yacht and in the case of this article pay particular attention to your steering gear as well as your stays, sea cocks and water pump impellor

10.01.2022 Here is a very good article about action when your boat is sinking. It is a good idea to know exactly where all the weak points are on the hull and deck so if you do start taking water you know where to look https://www.yachtingworld.com//stay-afloat-rescuing-sinkin

09.01.2022 Today is a great day for a sail out of Bunbury. Might shake the mothballs out of Selene's sails and head down to Peppermint Beach. If you are not sure what this weather map is saying give us a call about Day Skipper courses

07.01.2022 This looks like an interesting knot

07.01.2022 From all of us at Navathome Australia, Happy New Year. And to all our students don't stop studying just cos it is New Year! Have a good one Helen

06.01.2022 Can't help but feel for the crew and Skipper.

04.01.2022 Continuing our concepts of how to get under a bridge when you don't have enough clearance, you can try the tuck and role technique. Don't recommend it if you have just got a hot cup of coffee....

04.01.2022 We now provide a new fast track option for yachtmaster theory. It provides full access to the day skipper theory course bringing your foundation knowledge up to speed and then you complete the full coastal yachtmaster theory. Check our website for details. It is incredibly cost effective

04.01.2022 Easter and perfect weather for a little boat maintenance. Didn't quite get a sail in. All teak work done, cleaned up the hull, replaced a battery and thorough clean inside and out and yes - lifelines tightened. Lots of people doing course work this weekend so well done to everyone and apologies to their partners.

03.01.2022 If you are stuck at home and dreaming about sailing there has never been a better time to do your theory at home. I have dropped prices on all courses to help out and we can still post theory packs but get in early.

02.01.2022 Tracking down to Christmas. All the very best from us all at Navathome Australia. We have some great specials if you want to get into theory over the hols! Day Skipper is $80 off and if you already have a Day Skipper certificate from Navathome Australia you get the same discount for Yachtmaster theory!! Merry Christmas

02.01.2022 And keeping on with the theme of getting yachts under a bridge, we are moving on to the limbo method with water bags.

02.01.2022 One for those wanting to master the bowline!

02.01.2022 Injuries can occur when you least expect it. Having a swinging boom next to a person standing up is a serious risk factor

02.01.2022 And finally we have the quick mast drop method. Having lowered many very expensive masts to get under the bridges on the swan river in Perth, I think I will pass on this. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2765634706800130/permalink/4259977007365885/

02.01.2022 Steering failure is often something we worry about but rarely plan for. Here is some useful starting points on how a sail boat behaves when steering fails

01.01.2022 Big congrats to Warren and Robin who both passed Day Skipper and to Chris who passed his coastal!
