14.01.2022 When is enough enough? This afternoon at approximately 1603 Easter Sunday we received radio telecommunication from a distressed vessel with concerns of the v...essel over heating and anchor being inoperable. This is what we were faced with on a Public Holiday, a long weekend and we couldn’t move. We couldn’t launch our primary rescue vessel, nor could we launch from either Meunga or Fishers Creek boat ramp with our secondary vessel. Thank goodness we were able to talk the boater through how to do a series of engine checks after coming across a shallower part of the creek he was fishing to be able to get him going. If this was unsuccessful the earliest a crew would have gotten to him would have been a launch from the berth at approx 1930 that’s a total of 3.5 hours after receiving the initial call! Please Note: We are aware this post will obtain negative comments, however we have been working tirelessly with Government Ministers and Groups to obtain other options which would be appropriate for our vessel to reduce our response times given this circumstance however to no success. However the need to address the boating public to make sure they check their tides, the weather and all environmental factors as well as ‘ensure you do regular preventative maintenance’ #PortHinchinbrook #OneMileCreek #Volunteers #knowyourtrips #checkyourboats #marinesafety

10.01.2022 These satellite tracks show the movement of eight tagged tiger sharks in the Whitsundays between December 2018 and June 2019. It’s part of a report looking at ...shark behaviour in Cid Harbour. The report backs previous research that shows catching and releasing sharks doesn’t work in the Great Barrier Reef marine park https://www.daf.qld.gov.au//sha/whitsunday-shark-response/ See more

06.01.2022 ANGLER ASSIST: An area angler assisted MDC and the Missouri State Highway Patrol Missouri this week by reporting a sunken vehicle in a lake at Shawnee Mac Lakes... Conservation Area in Dent County. The angler had noticed an image of the vehicle in about 17 feet of water on his fish finder. Conservation agents and the MSHP Underwater Recovery Team located the vehicle, divers attached a cable to it, and it was winched out by Whitaker Towing. It turns out the vehicle had been reported stolen to the Salem Police Department in November 2008 from Ozark Auto Sales in Salem. No items were found in the vehicle and the interior was partially burned. THANK YOU to the angler! Please report any suspicious activity or findings at conservation areas to the local conservation agent or MDC office. Joe@MDC See more
