18.01.2022 Did you know that strawberries are the highest amongst fruits and vegetables sprayed with pesticides? Followed by kale and spinach.. something to think about. 17.01.2022 Very often I get asked about the safest cookware to use. Below is a list of healthy cookware to use in your kitchen. Cast iron... Stainless steel Glass lead free Ceramic Just as equally important, we need to eliminate the use of cooking with the below cookware: Teflon/Tefal also known as Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Aluminum Non stick cookware Solid copper The chemical lining of these cookwares have been found to leach into the foods that are being cooked and their exposure has been linked to an array of health conditions from Thyroid disease, Infertility, Alzheimers, Breast cancer, Ulcerative colitis, Diarrhoea and much more. Luckily, we have options that are not hugely expensive and do the job. I understand how overwhelming it can be making dietary changes let alone in your own kitchen! But inevitably they do still impact our health. I believe in small changes gradually and going low tox where you can, can make a huge difference in your overall health. #lowtoxliving #chemicalfreeliving #lowtoxlife #healthconscious #wellness #health #uaehealthmovement #dubaiwellness #naturopathy #nutrition #nourthenaturopath See more

16.01.2022 Something I commonly see is children being offered black tea by the parents. While its not a major crime it is astimulant at the end of the day, due to its caffeine content. In a child this can disrupt their sleep and cause anxiety. Caffeine also has a diuretic effect which may cause children to urinate more frequently, affecting hydration. To add to this, the natural tannins found in black and green tea can bind to iron and other minerals depleting the childs... body of essential nutrients. Whilst its not all that bad, I strongly encourage children drink herbal teas instead- firstly as a means to stay hydrated and secondly to get all the health benefits that come with them. Some organic herbal teas (with benefits) I recommend include: Chamomile (Chamomilia recutita) In infants its used to treat colic, and for children it relieves stomach pain and cramps and helps promote sleep. It has also been shown to improve diarrhoea. Melissa (lemon balm) A beautiful calming herb that helps reduce anxiety and promotes sleep. Lemon balm is also a great antiviral. Some studies have also shown its effects in enhancing memory. Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) Especially known to relieve gas, particularly helpful in infants with colic, helps with digestion, it also expels phlegm from the respiratory tract. Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) One of the most effective antibacterial herbs. Especially useful in recovering from a cold/flu and bronchitis. It works well at expelling phlegm and thinning mucous. Echinacea (Echinacea angustifolia) Improves immune system, increases white blood cell production to fight off infections. Both antiviral and antibacterial. Reduces the duration of the common cold and other upper respiratory tract infections. Ginger (Zingiber officinale) Reduces gas and improves digestion. In addition to relieving constipation. It also has antimicrobial effects. For children with motion sickness it relieves nausea. In addition to all of that ginger is a natural antihistamine reducing symptoms of allergies and sinusitis. 16.01.2022 Stress.. we all experience it at one point or another but to what degree can we handle it? Or think we can handle it? When we experience stress our body undergoes an inflammatory response, sometimes this can be a good thing however long term this can lead to many diseases. In this day and age we are expected to believe we are capable and can handle everything that comes our way because if we don’t and we ask for help than we are weak and we failed. ... But In this day and age because we have so much pressure, stressors and expectations it is okay to ask for help and say NO. It is okay to take some time out and take a deep breath, it is okay to prioritize yourself and your emotions once in a while and it is definitely okay to admit your stressed and tired. Because the long term effects of stress are far more detrimental to our health than anything else.

15.01.2022 Health is not valued till sickness comes - Thomas fuller This is a time when we should all be strengthening our immune system as part of our preventative measures against the spread of COVID-19. This is because the major role of the immune system is to protect your body from outside invadors such as bacteria, viruses etc as well as toxins. As a whole, the immune system also has a role to play in protecting against disease, fighting infections and cancer cells. ... We all have an obligation towards our body and our health and we should not wait for the worst to happen before we take effective measures. Whilst I encourage immune enhancing supplements, I would also like to add a few other ways to naturally improve your immunity. - Increase your intake of vegetables to 5-7 a day and 2-3 fruits a day. The more variety of fruits and vegetables you have the higher the fibre you consume the more good bacteria is formed. Fibre acts as a prebiotic and prebiotics help with the formation of good bacteria and good bacteria fights off bad bacteria and improves the immune system Most of us dont even meet half of that requirement and no potatoes are not a vegetable - Avoid sugar, refined - packaged foods, colourings, vegetable oils. All these impact our good bacteria and suppress the immune system. - Enjoy the sun when its out! Research has shown that the sun activates key immune cells and boosts your immunity - Get some rest and sleep at night!Sleep actually improves the immune system. Infact a lack of sleep has been shown to lower our immune system increasing our susceptibility to infections. Shorter sleep durations have also been associated with an increase in catching the common cold! - If there is one thing that seriously affects the immune system its Stress. Ongoing stress especially makes us more susceptible to illness and disease this is due to the cortisol continuously being produced by the body. Cortisol overtime suppresses the immune system. continued in the comments below See more

10.01.2022 Did you know that exercise improves insulin sensitivity, reduces inflammation and promotes the healthy removal of oestrogen through perspiration. Exercising for approximately 300 minutes a week which is equivalent to 42 minutes a day reduced total oestrogen by about 19%. While other studies showed that exercising 30 minutes, five times a week can also reduce oestrogen levels. ... Why is this important? While oestrogen has many health benefits in the body , High levels of oestrogen can increase the risk of certain diseases, including: * Fibroids * Ovarian cysts * Fibrocystic breast disease * Endometriosis * Blood clots * Some cancers, including breast and endometrial cancer Women who are overweight are encouraged to exercise due to fat cells producing extra oestrogen. 09.01.2022 The importance of chewing food is hardly ever discussed and so undervalued, yet it has such a big impact on many of our digestive health issues. How many times do you chew your foods before you swallow? ... Your food needs to be chewed enough to lose its texture, depending on what your eating you will need to chew approximately 32 times! This is because most of your digestion happens in your mouth! In preparation for food the stomach releases gastric juices and enzymes to break down food. Some of these enzymes are also produced in the mouth while chewing which also assists in the digestion process. When you dont digest your foods well you suffer from bloating, indigestion, malabsorption etc. Apart from not chewing enough a common habit most people have is drinking with meals. This habit washes away the acid secretions that is being produced in the stomach. Apart from breaking down foods, the role of acid being produced in the stomach is to kill any microbes coming in from our foods, so when we wash this away with a drink it increases the likelihood of lots of microbes in the gut. This is also exactly why an antacids (proton pump inhibitors) are so damaging to our health! When we eat we shouldnt eat with the mindset to get it over and done with. The right way to eat is to: Eat while sitting in a relaxed manner, take your time and never eat when your stressed or driving Chew your food really well Always start with a protein first Eat wholesome, nutritious foods your body loves. Do not drink with a meal Its also important to keep in mind that it takes approximately 20 minutes for hormones in your body to reach your brain to signal your feeling full, which is why eating slowly is also important for weight control. And remember Every time you eat or drink, you are either feeding disease or fighting it. - Heather Morgan #digestion #melbournenaturopath #melbournehealth #organic #digestivehealth #gerd #reflux #guthealth #gut #dubaihealth #uaehealthmovement #dubaimums #uaemums #naturopathy #nutrition #wellness #carolinesprings #nourthenaturopath See more

07.01.2022 Did you know that caffeine is the most widely used drug in the world! Caffeine can have a stimulating effect as soon as 15minutes after consuming it and its effects can last for six or more hours for the caffeine to be eliminated from the body. This doesnt take into account how many cups you have or other foods which contain caffeine including chocolate, energy drinks, soft drinks, tea and some medications.... A regular cup of coffee contains between 80-100mg of caffeine. What does this mean for sleep? Caffeine promotes alertness and inhibits the chemicals in the brain that promotes sleep. 400mg of caffeine consumed 6 hours before bedtime significantly disrupts sleep time by one hour! However even smaller doses can have an impact and delay sleep. People who have insomnia (trouble falling asleep) are best advised to avoid caffeine altogether. #insomnia #caffeine #sleepdisorder #health #awareness #healthawareness #uaehealthmovement #dubaihealth #dubaiwellness #naturopath #nutrition #organic #carolinesprings #nourthenaturopath See more

07.01.2022 It is important that women learn to differentiate between whats considered normal period pain and severe period pain. A normal period pain is: ... - A bit of cramping or throbbing in the lower abdomen and slight back pain - Does NOT interfere with your day to day activities - Lasts for the first or second day of your period. - Responds well to over the counter pain medications. Anything outside of this is considered severe period pain. This is not normal. If the pain you experience is severe enough to make you skip work, vomit, does not respond to over the counter medications, then you need to speak to a healthcare practitioner and get it further investigated. 06.01.2022 Whether you suffer from a thyroid disorder or not it is important to look after this butterfly shaped gland (part of the endocrine system) which is involved in many different functions in the body including: Metabolism Weight Temperature ... Menstrual cycle Cholesterol levels Energy and lots more! The way we eat and sleep, viral and bacterial infections we are exposed to all play a role in the overall health of the thyroid, more importantly though are environmental toxins and lifestyle factors that can impact thyroid hormone production. Some examples include: - Fluoride and chloride which blocks iodine intake that is needed for the production of thyroid hormones. Fluoride mainly found in toothpaste, chloride found in water and table salt. - Environmental toxins and chemicals. Those include BPA (Bisphenol A) commonly found in cans, plastic water bottles, food storage containers. - Phthalates found in personal care products ie; perfumes, hair dyes, nail polish, shampoo, body lotions etc increase thyroid activity - Pesticides, herbicides , fungicides found in fruits and vegetables as well as fertilizers used for gardening. Those chemicals have been linked to underactive thyroid. - BHA (Butylated hydroxyanisole) a preservative used in baked goods, cereals, preserved meats, desert mixes etc is a well known endocrine disruptors. - Tobacco smoke affects the thyroid gland and function from a chemical called thiocyanate when smoked. - Triclosan a common ingredient found in antibacterial handsoap affects thyroid function. - Stress negatively affects the adrenal glands (also part of the endocrine system). Cortisol is a stress hormone released by the adrenal glands. When cortisol is produced for too long or is too high this can block the conversion of thyroid hormones. 01.01.2022 Research showed that poor sleep seemed to be a major cause of junk food cravings, and that junk food cravings were associated with a greater likelihood of obesity, diabetes and other health problems. This could be because sleep helps regulate metabolism. Sleep deprivation can also alter glucose metabolism. Two hormones in your body which control metabolism, appetite and satiety (amongst other things) - are ghrelin and leptin. ... Ghrelin stimulates apetite, increases food intake and promotes fat storage. Whereas leptin suppresses the apetite. A short sleep duration causes leptin levels to go down while causing ghrelin levels to go up - contributing to an increase in appetite which could also explain why overtime an individual with a lack of sleep can have an increased BMI (weight gain). #insomnia #sleepdeprived #weightgain #obesity #diabetes #diabetesawareness #dubaihealth #dubaiwellness #cravings #uaehealth #australiahealth #nutrition #naturopathicmedicine #nourthenaturopath #carolinesprings See more
