17.01.2022 Seriously the world could get any more different could it? Last year walked over 30000 steps, dragging Nigel Campbell all over Paris. Visits to Montmartre, picnic in the park, walked the Seine, cruised the Seine, Dinner at a lovely little Saint Michaels and the best part of all my first visit to the Eiffel Tower. This year walk around my driveway, work and then home. ... It took me 10 years of saving and planning but if there is anything this year has taught us is that we can never ever take anything for granted as we just don’t know what is around the corner. 17.01.2022 So very thankful for Alize Fabrics in organising the ‘5 day lockdown Support SA Quilt Shops’. Thank you so very much to all who visited and ordered online - these are just some of the orders being posted out and welcome to the new likes. I’m on Annual Leave from the bank at the moment and have spent the last three days gardening, cleaning at home and sneaking in some sewing for the Nays Place tree for the Waikerie Christmas Tree Trail. ... Yellow decorations of course - I basically sewed strips of yellow fabrics then draw the shapes on the back and free motion stitched around them - here’s my tree halfway and wouldn’t you know if I forgot to take a photo of the finished tree before we took it to join over 120 other trees on display this year. Whilst Waikerie is hosting the Santa’s Cave and Christmas Pageant this year the Waikerie Santa's Cave committee is still hosting its shop and santa in the Institute. Lots of handmade crafts and cooking to purchase. Some fantastic new Christmas decorations for the town - when I head into the shop tomorrow I will take more photos to share. 15.01.2022 Well as off 12.01am some restrictions were lifted in South Australia and could open again. Whilst non-essential travel is still discouraged I have a feeling a lot of us just want to get out and breathe a bit today and savour what we have in our own backyards. OMG who else is now totally in awe of the Victoria’s and having to be in lockdown for over 100 days - I’m not sure how I would have handled that. ... 14.01.2022 I know there are a few amongst who don’t like daylight savings but can I let you in on a secret - I LOVE IT It’s 7:30pm and just started to turn I’ve been able to come home relax, change and start with watering the garden, replenishing the fish pond and take some stunning photos of tonight’s sunset. ... As I wandered through our garden i’m astounded at the new growth, the buds and flowers and marvel at how well everything is growing (fingers crossed). It was an amazing weekend full of fun laughter and lots and lots of visitors - thankyou for coming in or ordering on-line and helping me celebrate my 6th Birthday in style - some of the lovely fabrics that went out this weekend. Once again I was thoroughly spoilt by everyone’s projects and have a lot of fun sharing. A Happy quilt by Ann for her Sister-in-law for a special birthday that is coming up Gypsy Wife by Kerry - this is a Jen Kingwell pattern @amitietextiles - It’s a lot of work and small@pieces but I’m sure you all agree with me the results are stunning. Then quilts by Lyn - loving the Christmas stitcheries, wine themed quilt for a friend. Pat has finished her top of her @rachelledennenydesigns mysolation quilt and is ready to quilt it. Sonia showed me her new ironing board set up alongside her sewing desk - It’s a 2x4 cube on its side with a padded board on top - plenty wide enough for all your projects and finally a sample of some of a gorgeous crochet pot, saucer and plant from Liz. Let’s get Things that Go by Katie Webb designs - the Road Map Panel gives me so many ideas for Playmats. ... More Bella Solids and Marble Swirls by Moda Fabrics United Notions slowly coming in - still lots of back order and sorry still no Black. I now have over 75 different colours of Bella Solids and they sew so beautifully. ShadowPlay by Maywood Studio is lovely for some tone on tone blenders. Slowly building up my colour range with these as well. To finish off some great background basics from @Moda Fabrics United Notions. I just can’t seem to find as many of these as I use to - tried to do a close up of the creams and whites so you can see the pattern details. To finish it off Tula Pink Lineworks backing Fabric 108 wide and it feels so soft and glorious. I’ll be honest with you I didn’t really like this on the sample card and I was blown away by how much I like it in person. The detail and design are just incredible. Di is in store today with her stock from Rainbrella Blessings and is taking orders for her Santa Sacks and Stockings - orders for named stockings close on Sunday 1st November. After this date she cannot guarantee delivery before Christmas. We will have a range of stockings in the store leading up to Christmas. 14.01.2022 With a lot of new Nays Place friends I thought I would introduce myself. I’m Naomi (aka Nay). Full-time Bank Manager with BankSA and part-time shop owner of Nays Place. My journey started 6 plus years ago when our local Quilt Shop owner retired in June - I lasted about 3 months without having a shop nearby and then thought I had to do something about this. That October I decided to have a stall with Nays Place at our local market and that was the beginning. From this month...ly market on a Saturday I was encouraged to open up Nays Place from a shed at our family home and my shop was open. At my humble shed I also held classes and was lucky enough when a friend attending a class offered me an empty shop on the main street of Waikerie for the Easter weekend in 2017. Easter weekend 2017 was when our new Caravan Park also opened so there were a lot of visitors expected. A few weeks of elbow grease with help from my husband Nigel and friends Mel, Jillian and Brendan we open on the Easter Saturday. After a rocky start (my Eftpos machine wouldnt work) I survived the first day with lots, LOTS of visitors and help from friends. My daughter Sarah helped me that first day and I can remember tallying the till thinking what I expected to take in over the weekend I just made in one day. As we were driving home Sarah looked at me and said ‘Mum Dreams can come true’ and she’s right. Over 3 years later and I’m still in McCoy Street. I have wonderful friends with Di, Pat, Jodi, Mel and Linda who help me keep the shop open when I’m sick or away. Recently (before COVID hit) I was lucky enough to go to Europe for 10 weeks and celebrate my 50th in Paris - another dream coming true. If you’ve made it this far - I thank you, welcome you to Nays Place, my dream, my passion, my everything. My special place; a little bit of everything in the charming town of Waikerie. Approx 2 hour drive from Adelaide city and a great place to base yourself to explore the Riverland region. The best riverfront in the region. 12.01.2022 Seriously it could only happen in Waikerie..... Rocked up to open the shop Sunday to a bag off goodies stuck in the handle. Many of you would know that I have a couple of big buckets of wool that is donated for people to use for charity knitting/projects. According to one of my ladies it was there on Saturday - isnt it amazing that it was still there Sunday - whoever the donor is thank you. Gorgeous Roses from Di’s Garden and Nanna Bev Nanna Bev's handmade creations has boug...ht another cow and turtles in - I’m beginning to get quite a collection of animals on my couch - all are for sale Some lovely finishes that were bought in for Sunday Funday. Pat has finished some bright and colourful quilts including her Rachelle Denneny Designs Mysolation Quilt. Don’t you just love the Big Dream Panel on the back. Sonia has finished her low volume quilt - love the hint of colour. I suggested to her to try the Magic Binding to give a pop of colour to finish off the quilts and doesn’t it look amazing. Look up Aunt Marti Magic Binding on You Tube for a great tutorial. All the above quilts have been quilted by Anne The Winkie Warren and they look brilliant. Then I might be playing with a few Christmas decoration ideas - a month till the Christmas window is up Nov 27th which is when the Waikerie Pageant is normally on so I’m still celebrating all things Christmas.
