24.01.2022 An icy and snowy adventure to one of the best waterfalls in Tasmania

23.01.2022 These guys were hanging around on Nelson Falls track as well. Well worth the short walk and glad we avoided the rain. Enjoy. Micheal

22.01.2022 Eta Carina Nebula and the Keyhole Nebula. This is a single frame edit, 2 minute exposure at 1600 ISO guided. Taken with GSO F4 Newtonian, EQ6R, Canon 6D Mark II, OAG, Auto Focus Pro II. Imaged in SGP and Edited with Pixinsight. Enjoy

20.01.2022 The Tarantula Nebula. A great target visually just not so great with a SLR to get some real colour. Was a good fill in while I sort out some more automation :) This is a single frame edit, 5 minute exposure at 1600 ISO guided. Taken with GSO F4 Newtonian, EQ6R, Canon 6D Mark II, OAG, MYFocusPro II. Imaged in SGP and Edited with Pixinsight. Enjoy

19.01.2022 Well after much time sorting Telescope equipment I am back up running :) Still some things to sort through but in a far better position than ever. Here is a single image I got last night of The Great Orion Nebula. One of the best and easiest targets in the sky. 300 Second exposure at 1600 ISO. GSO F4 Newtonian, EQ6R Mount, Canon 6d Mark II, Auto Focus, Guided off axis with PhD2. Imaged in Sequence Generator, Edited in Pixinsight. Enjoy

17.01.2022 In the dark I will seek. In the dark I will look. In the dark I will see. This is the Rho Ophiuchi Cloud. 55 Light images 10 minutes @ 6400 iso. Calibrated with Dark, Bias and Flat frames. Taken with Canon 6D Mark II prime focused to a William Optics Zenithstar 71. Mounted on a guided HEQ5 modified mount. 460 Light years away from us on Covid-19 Earth. This image takes up 6x4 degrees of the sky. The wider view of this system is unbelievable and I hope to create a nice mosaic ...of this system one day. Enjoy Micheal Mckay

12.01.2022 It has been a very busy week covering the under 18 Australian National Hockey here in Tasmania. We have a few more days to go. Some changes are happening here so stay tuned Cheers Micheal

12.01.2022 When around Queenstown it always worth a visit to Nelson Falls. It would have been pumping today after the rain we got last night. But this was taken yesterday before the rain. At least this visit I didn't get drenched from the spray. Enjoy. Micheal

11.01.2022 Great day out :) Enjoy Micheal Mckay

11.01.2022 One of the amazing Waratah's in flower along the Arve Falls track.

09.01.2022 The Prawn Nebula, IC 4628 . Looks like such a small target in this full frame wide field image. A comfortable 6000 Light years away will get you to the centre of all the Nebulosity. This image is combined of 63 x 600 Second light images at 6400 ISO along with calibration images. It took 2 half nights of imaging ( due to weather ) to complete before editing. Hope you enjoy :) Micheal Mckay

09.01.2022 While the overhead impending sunlight took away from the views of Rinadeena, I moved onto the creek system Pretty happy with the results.

09.01.2022 A nice weekend away camping in Lee's Paddocks. Total trip was 27kms. Had a quick look at Lewis and Oxley Falls en route to 'The Paddocks' We day packed to Reg Wadley Memorial Hut and checked out Ladder Falls on the way back to Lee's Hut. We camped there for the night. The group of 10 of us shared some laughs before retiring for the night. Some light showers were nice overnight. We geared up in the morning with days packs to seek out Devil's Cauldron before we would depart Lee...'s Hut for the carpark. Well there were some very shocked people in the group at the enormity and beauty of Devil's Cauldron. We clambered tightly along a moss covered rock ledge a couple of metres above the raging torrent below. The ledge at its worst would have only been 10cm wide. On all fours we clambered under a ledge to get out in the open. Where you get the full view of the Cauldron. What an epic way to end an amazing weekend away. See more

08.01.2022 A lovely walk in the rain and fog. Will make a revisit soon :)

08.01.2022 Amazing to get a feature done #lovetasmania #tasmania

08.01.2022 Styx Big Tree Walk. A very short cruisy stroll amongst some of the biggest trees in Tasmania. A delight of a place to visit for anyone in the area of Maydena. Enjoy

07.01.2022 A nice muddy and snowy walk in Cradle Mountain National Park. Headed up to Brewery Knob, a untracked side trip off the Hounslow Heath - Maryland Track. 10kms return from Ronny Creek. Stunning weather, albeit a bit fresh.

06.01.2022 A very wet day along Warners Track. A steep walk but the Cascades are amazing. What a superb view on top at 1150m above sea level.

03.01.2022 A long day walk along some very changing alpine scenery. The Richea Scoparia was in flower plus a number of other vegetation. The weather gods blessed us all the way with light chilly winds and mild temperatures. The walk was 23kms return and 10 hours return. 1300m elevation gain from Dove Lake carpark. A steep scramble to the summit to have one of the best views around Tasmania.

02.01.2022 When you get a new telescope, you play with it :) First light is the moon to make sure it will give me focus for the next chapter in my astrophotography ventures. Waxing Gibbous and 81% illumination. Enjoy Micheal Mckay

01.01.2022 Barn Bluff 1559m above sea level. A spectacular place to visit. A solid 10 hour hike covering a total of 23kms. This is a 270 degree panorama from the summit. Consisting of 38 full frame images. Showing off best views of Fury Gorge, Cradle Mountain and Lake Will. The plethora of mountains in the further background are nearly endless. Enjoy. Micheal Mckay
