25.01.2022 Our ladies finished this year on a high note after quite a turbulent year with a successful Christmas party today, all came dressed in their Christmas regalia. The day started with some traditional fun gala bowls, mix n match teams and novelty games where the ladies on the last end were required to bowl backwards and between their legs. There were some very unusual sights to be seen with the unconventional way of bowling! Congratulations to Bernie Carroll for taking out the ...highest single winning margin award and also well done to our Match Committee for making it such a fun day. The Christmas lunch of a delicious roast was very well presented and enjoyed by all, a huge compliment to the catering staff for their outstanding efforts. Congratulations to all the raffle prize winners on the day and thank you to the ladies who donated some of those amazing prizes. A fabulous $265 on the money tree was raised for the Westpac Helicopters worthy cause. Well done to our Social Committee for organising the prizes and for setting up the beautiful tables. The talent of many of our members stood out today with some exceptional song and dance and hilarious skits....you certainly did rock us and the dancing queens were crowned with sparkling tiaras to all the Club championship winners for 2020..... Well done to everyone who made the day an enjoyable success (the pictures say a thousand words!!) we look forward to seeing you all back on the green in 2021. On behalf of President Pat Janes and the NBWBC Committee I would like to wish all our members a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year. Bernie

21.01.2022 MIXED PAIRS REGIONAL PLAY-OFFS - BERNIE CARROLL & CHRIS EDMONDS Hi NBWBC Members well finally after 3 BRAIN NUMBING weeks of battling with technology, I have my fingers crossed that the gremlins who inhabited my email system have now flown the coop allowing me to get on with things most important. What could that be? I hear you ask? Why it’s the REGIONAL PLAY-OFFS - MIXED PAIRS starring our very own MARLINS Bernie Carroll & Chris ‘Tickets’ Edmonds - of course ...Continue reading

17.01.2022 Welcome to our new member, Karen Marshall. Karen and her husband came to the Bay in March 2019 after living in Muswellbrook for the past 40 years. Karen decided to retire from her position of 19 years as a teacher librarian at Scone public school and settled in our magnificent Bay. She was encouraged by a local friend to join the NBWBC and we’re certainly glad she did! On behalf of all our members we hope you enjoy your bowls and continue to make lots of new friends. Bernie

16.01.2022 Neck and neck all the way in what was an exciting finish....... Deb Johns rose to the occasion in the last few ends of the game after the score being 21 to 20 with the final result 25 to 20. Both ladies displayed some superb bowls to the head, however Deb managed to beat Una Cornwell to finally take out the 2020 NBWBC Minor Singles championship title. Congratulations go to Deb and well done to Una on her fantastic effort in providing the spectators with such a close and well ...played game. Bernie

11.01.2022 Let’s wish a warm welcome to our newest member, Anjes Tobbe. Anjes is originally from The Netherlands whereby she settled in the Bay 21 years ago with her husband who is an active volunteer doing Community work as a photographer.....We may need to call on him for his expertise!! Anjes is an avid golfer, playing for the last 10 years and has now decided to take up lawn bowls for the first time. Good luck and good bowling and we hope you enjoy your time at our friendly Club. Bernie

09.01.2022 NBWBC CONSISTENCY CHAMPIONSHIP 2020 Today, 24.11.2020 Nelson Bay WBC played the final of our 2020 Consistency Championship. This is a challenging game of draw bowls similar to a Singles format but with different scoring on ends and a static jack, which if moved by a bowl is replaced on the washer to its original position. The scoring system is as follows: It is possible for a player to score 10 points in one end if their bowls are all closer than the opponent’s. First to s...core 150 on a completed end is the winner. Today’s finalists were Denise Archibald vs Bernie Carroll. Having joined NBWBC in 2002, Denise is a well-respected Club Champion with very tidy resume. WON RUNNER-UP Major Singles 2013 Pairs 2007; 2009; 2019 Triples 2006; 2007; 2014; 2015; 2016; 2018; 2020 Fours 2005; 2006; 2008; 2009 Consistency 2008; 2015 Denise along with others, has also been instrumental in teaching many of our current members who are flourishing to become excellent bowlers and testament to this is Bernie Carroll. Bernie joined as a full member of NBWBC in June 2017. The bowling bug was merciless when it bit Bernie who is renowned for playing bowls in her sleep I’m told! Social bowls, special bowls days, District Championships, Regional Championships, State Carnivals, Skip in the Triples State Club Challenge and is off to contest a State Title event next February in the Mixed Pairs at Malua Bay. Bernie was part of the winning team who won the Club Mixed Fours in 2018 and also won the Club Minor Singles in 2019. In the 2020 District Open Pairs, Debra Johns and Bernie lost by one shot to a Grade 1 team from Soldiers Point. In the District Singles, Bernie was defeated in the second round 25-13 by Leanne Kerby of Kotara who went on to become runner-up to world champion, Natasha Van Eldik. Bernie recently won the Club Mixed Pairs with her husband, John. Bernie today added another feather in her bowls cap (no logo required)winning the NBWBC 2020 Club Consistency Championship. The erratic wind, ranging from still to gusts, made it extremely difficult going but nonetheless those two-tone, pale blue speckles prevailed to sit by the jack more often than not. It was a great game to watch, as Denise never relents in a contest and though she made every effort to topple Bernie, it was a close match....it just didn’t go her way today. Congratulations to winner Bernie, to Runner-up Denise and on behalf of all members we thank you both for a very entertaining match. Jacqui Aldred

08.01.2022 Meet Melissa from Hume Housing who is one of many employees enjoying their end of year celebrations with a fun, dress up social game of bowls. How do you feel about reviewing our current dress code?

07.01.2022 On behalf of NDWBA, congratulations to Bernie Carroll & Chris Edmonds, Regional winners of WBNSW Mixed Pairs. With 3 rounds to play, 2 x 5 end sets with 1 end tie-breaker, it was down to the wire in the last game. We congratulate the Marlins on playing superb bowls and Nelson Bay Marlins can be very proud of this achievement. Good luck & great bowls at the State play-offs Malua Bay Feb 6 2021. Jacqui Aldred

05.01.2022 The Nelson Bay Women’s Bowling Club were fortunate enough to hold a past Presidents’ Day that was kindly sponsored and attended by the following past Presidents......Lorna Francis (2000 to 2003) Liz Breen (2003 to 2006) Coralie Lewis (2009 to 2012) Helen Nicholls (2012 to 2015) and Di Mawhinnew (2015 to 2018) Each of the ladies have contributed well in their tenure to make our Ladies bowls as successful as it is today. The day started with enjoyable bowls that was unfortunat...ely cut short by the rain however the day was not lost with enough bowls played to determine winners and as a results each of the past Presidents awarded prizes to the winners accordingly.
