19.01.2022 So following on from yesterday’s post with the good news that rates are most likely to stay low for the next 3 years it’s going to be a good time to buy in the ...next few years. Rates being low mean:- 1. The repayments on a home loan are likely to be similar or often lower than rent in a similar style property. Great time to get out of the rental market !! 2. You have some sort of certainty over what your repayments are likely to look like for the next few years ( you can alway choose a fixed rate too for a bit more certainty if you want to ) 3. The market is likely to be stable or go up which means you can build equity in your home for wealth creation. 4. The banks / lenders will still add 2% or more to interest rates when working out your borrowing capacity so they are not putting you in an overcommitted situation when / if rates go up down the track 5. Last but not least your borrowing capacity is higher when rates are low. It’s good for getting into the market. We always need a crystal ball to know for sure what’s going to happen but for the reserve bank to say that they will keep rates low for the next 3 years at least gives us some comfort about rates.
