Certified speech pathologist Anne Williams will be joined by mental health clinician Anne Edwards at 12.30pm and 6.30pm (AEST) on Tuesday, May 18. The topic is ‘Safe, Secure & Supported: Is your child ready for school?’, and the pair will discuss emotional milestones children should be reaching before beginning kindergarten. Anne Edwards will also answer questions around child development and mental health, which have been asked by our learning community of educators and parents. 19.01.2022 Mercy is 14 years old and has just given birth to a baby boy. She is one of tens of thousands of young African girls who have become pregnant during the seven months of lockdown when all schools have been closed. Mercy is fortunate to have been brought by the Kenyan Child Welfare officers to the Neighbours Aid Teen Mums Home. Unlike other girls, some as young as 10, who have become pregnant in countries where there is no government support, Mercy has a safe home to live in, ...enough food and medical care for her and her baby, and the opportunity to complete her education at one of our schools. The reality for those not so fortunate is a life stuck in the poverty cycle, with multiple children to different fathers. Prostitution, in many instances, becomes the only way they can provide food and shelter for themselves and their babies. The children’s fathers and their families generally do not give any support, and if the baby has been fathered by a relative, the girl and their baby will be in danger of being killed by the family members. Neighbours Aid’s projects in both Malawi and Kenya are committed to providing a better future for girls like Mercy. COVID-19 has prevented us from visiting for the foreseeable future when we would normally take suitcases of baby clothes and supplies. We can, however, send funds which will be used to buy what the girls and their babies need, helping local businesses who have been hit hard during the pandemic. Thank you so much for helping us to give Mercy and her baby, and those like them, a brighter future. Get your tickets for Bundles for Babies hamper from the centre today. THANK YOU.

16.01.2022 his week is Reconciliation Week and we are focusing on what this means to us as children and educators. Simply, ‘Reconciliation’ means coming together. In Australia, it is the term used to refer to the bringing together of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, or Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians. Supporting reconciliation means working to overcome the reasons there is division and inequality between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians. This l years theme is: M...ore than a word! If you wish to know more please don’t hesitate to ask. https://nrw.reconciliation.org.au/posters-and-resources-2/

01.01.2022 The health, safety and welfare of children, families, educators and staff of early childhood education continues to be our key focus. We encourage families to access information about interstate hotspots, and contact tracing, symptoms of COVID-19 and when to seek medical advice and prevention, via Queensland Health and the Australian Government websites. All early childhood services are open and operating unless advised otherwise by health authorities. We all have a role in helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community. If you or any members of your household develop symptoms or feel unwell, please see your GP and call ahead before you visit

01.01.2022 BABY TALK At 18 months babies can usually say several simple words and can point to people, objects, and body parts you name for them. They repeat words or sounds they hear you say, like the last word in a sentence. Reading book with them is a great way to help with their speech development.
01.01.2022 Reminder, our centre is closed today for the Royal Queensland Show holiday, see you tomorrow
