19.01.2022 Budget 2015 in a Nutshell: Tax cuts worth $3.25bn, helping 780,000 companies and 1.5 million unincorporated businesses; From July 1, small companies with a turnover of less than $2 million will have their tax cut from 30 percent to 28.5 percent;... Small unincorporated businesses will get a five percent tax discount of up to $1000; Small business to get immediate tax write-off of purchases up to $20,000 from last night; Entrepreneurs will be able to write-off some start-up consulting costs, freeing up their cashflow; Start-ups will now be able to more easily source funding from a large number of small investors, known as crowd-funding; FBT to be axed on portable electronics devices. Those who hire eligible jobseekers aged under 30, an Indigenous jobseeker, a parent returning to work or a long-term unemployed person, will be eligible for a $6,500 grant over 12 months. Employers who hire someone aged over 50 will gain up to $10,000 over 12 months under the Restart program. Bad news if you’re working in Australia temporarily (work and holiday visas): the tax-free threshold will no longer apply. You’ll have to pay 32.5 per cent tax on all your income up to $80,000 (and higher rates on income above that). Families earning between $65,000 and $185,000 will be about $30 a week better off under sweeping changes to childcare. Families with one stay-at-home parent and a household income of $65,000 or more, will lose all childcare subsidies. The days of double dipping into parental leave schemes are over, with parents now unable to claim both an employer-funded paid parental leave scheme and the taxpayer-funded 18-week minimum wage scheme. Students who’ve completed their training and then ducked off overseas, you’re on notice. These people would ordinarily avoid paying back their HECS debt, but the government has resolved to ensure this money is recovered

17.01.2022 Uber, Airbnb & The Sharing Economy! (For clients & people that have asked me) If you are engaged in sharing economy activities, for example where you let a room, let a car parking space, do odd jobs or other activities for payment or drive passengers in a car for a fare, you may have tax obligations. So to avoid any future issues with ATO you should contact me or your Tax agent/Accountant or at least have in mind the following: (Ideally) 1. Get an ABN... 2. Open a new bank account for that business 3. If Uber or Taxi services register for GST 4. Keep good records and a logbook differentiating private usages for car/home or other asset 5. Keep track/receipts of all business related expenses 6. Save for your tax bill as most probably you will have to pay some tax See more
